Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

For those on the fence about Batman, crossposting from the OT:

I finished the game yesterday and in my opinion this game feels like a dumbed down handheld version of the Batman Arkham series. I usually dislike this term and have played a lot of handheld spin-offs over the last two years (Uncharted GA, LBP, Assassins Creed: L, CoD BO: D, Killzone: M).

The change of gameplay from full 3D to 2.5D accounted partly for this. Even though I was disappointed that the Vita won't get a real Batman Arkham game, I personally like the 2.5D metroidvania style and was really looking forward to this game.
My biggest gripe with the gameplay is their weird pseudo 3D leveldesign. It made the exploration more complicated and I never learned my way around the world. I constantly had to look on the map, which thanks to the 3D leveldesign didn't really help me that much. The only time I liked the idea was at a predator encounter, which happened once in the whole game, what a missed opportunity.
I am sure that if they would have kept the gameplay to a classical 2D plane, maybe with a little bit background stuff, I would have enjoyed the game more. Ironically, this even more dumbed down gameplay probably wouldn't have let me feel like this game was a dumbed down handheld game because it didn't try so hard to be like the console experience.
It still is a solid game and I had some fun with it. Among those other spin-offs, I would rank it besides AC: L. There are many better handheld games to spent money on.

To spare you reading and myself writing a wall of text:

+Overall presentation works well.
+Graphics are nice.
+Many hidden goodies to find.
+Gameplay got much better with more gadgets...

-...after a slow start. Overall there weren't enough good puzzles/exploration with those gadgets.
-Weird pseudo 3D leveldesign with a slow loading and complicated map.
-In your face 3D presentation with bad camera perspectives in some encounters.
-Boss encounters aren't well designed.
-Combat wasn't varied and boring because there weren't enough enemies.
-Not enough interesting predator sequences.
-Vita's input abilities not used (no touchscreen on map, no backtouch detective mode).
-Bad playtime lengthening endgame.
-Minor bugs (game crashed, beaten enemies clip through the ground).

Top of the page recommendation:
Show Vanillaware some love and buy Dragon's Crown and Muramasa: Rebirth. You should also consider buying Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack.

Damn it GAF... it has been a while since I am feeling nervous playing a game.... CORPSE PARTY.... should I read the newspaper or not?..............

Finally got some time to go to electrical appliance store and upgraded my Vita to 64GB.
The feel of having prenty of memory space is so nice :D

I need a little help here, VitaGaF!
I'm thinking of buying bluetooth headphones for use on both my PC/360 (the Xbox is using the PC to output video/audio on my Monitor and sound set) and, mostly, on the run with the Vita. Any suggestions for cheap (30-50 euro more or less), but above low-mid range quality?
At the moment I'm looking at a Creative WP-300 for 20euros, but I'm wiling to spend a bit more, if that means greater quality.

Man destiny of spirits makes me angry, it loses the connection every few seconds, i had hopes for it but i will uninstall it.

In vk3 i have unlocked other new paths and settings(the first level of the basement of the castle and partially the first 2 levels of a cave), but i have to admit that it's really irritating that there's this sort of open world to explore but many paths are locked until you complete some story mission or get some key.

So Namco Bandai responded to me:

"Currently there are no plans to offer the Japanese VO as a DLC on the Vita; and you're correct about the size constraint for the Vita version as well hence the English only VO offering."

FFS Sony. It's been two years.

Retweet this to yoshida.

It's official, I was going to wait until Vita-2000 lime-green but I can't wait, I'm getting a 3G/Wi-Fi Vita for Christmas.

Much excite.

-------------

I don't get how FFX and X-2 are going to fit on Vita carts, the PS2 game sizes were over 4GB each. The Vita versions will be higher resolution than the PS2 games and have better textures/models.

Guys need your help here. I bought a PS Vita (sure is a good thing) but the idea was that both me and my wife could use it. I thought it would work like PS3, where I have my account and she use her, so everyone can play even the same game but we've got different save points.

Looks like it is not like this with Vita. Is it correct?

I read some post where someone said that with one of the last update you can switch account, you just need two memory card. But reading the OP here looks like things are different:

- You can switch with two memory cards but everytime you've got to do "Settings > Format > Restore"

- The game that I bought with my account (and downloaded from PSN) you cannot use/play them with another account, looks like that account has to BUY IT AGAIN it

Is it correct? If yes, is there a workaround to solve or anyway avoid these two points?

If that is correct this would make even hard or anyway boring to create an alternative country account (In my PS3 I have my italian PSN account and a US one...).

Please let me know so I can understand if I need to buy another memory card or not!

Told you.

it's sad really, Sony were just thinking about piracy when they were making Vita and made weird ass small gamecards and memory cards without thinking of the size issue and this is the result. The size limitation not only hurt this sort of extra, it mean low-res textures, smaller games, situations like the separated FFX/X-2 and many developers will just not think of porting their big sized games because thinking about fitting a game on small gamecard and thinking about owners with 4GB memory cards is just a huge hassle.

The biggest problem I have with Destiny of Spirits is just how slow everything is. It should not take 5+ seconds to go from one menu screen to another. :/

The real wizardry is how the team behind the Jak & Daxter Collection managed to get 3 PS2 games on a 4GB card.

I asked Yoshida if there was a size constraint for Vita PSN downloads. He didn't answer me.

An italian vitabro, welcome! :)
Sadly it's all correct :(
Two memories for two accounts.
If you make everything right you can change memory(it's not necessary to format it) and account in less than 10 minutes, but it's totally not something you would like to do often.
If you absolutely need to use 2 accounts often then you need 2 vitas.

I think that namco bandai saying that they are cutting contents due to card size can't be ignored, at least not by yoshida's followers.

are people still playing Soul Sacrifice? I liked the demo and posted in SS OT but didn't get a response. Torn between SS or Dragon's Crown.

Damn it GAF... it has been a while since I am feeling nervous playing a game.... CORPSE PARTY.... should I read the newspaper or not?..............

Just save the game a lot and do everything! The game is pretty fun.
__

I had like 30 medals in MotorStorm RC and my save didn't... well, save. I have 5 again.

The game seems to use auto-save, because I don't find anywhere to save. I'm the only one with that problem?

Grazie :-)

But what about this?

"- The game that I bought with my account (and downloaded from PSN) you cannot use/play them with another account, looks like that account has to BUY IT AGAIN it

i would be ok with same account same games but at Least let me have different save slots. Many games they don't even let you create different save games, just go autosave....

I've been floundering on whether to get a Vita after seeing the PSN offerings for it. I've kind of been hanging back in the sidelines waiting to see if Sony will continue to support the platform or if this is as good as it gets.

I guess that you need to buy one copy for each account if you want to play at the same time, if there are no multiple saves you two can complete different games and then swap them.

Why? I would just go with the wifi version. The 3g isn't going to add much to the experience.

Anyone played adventure bar labyrinthe from the psm store? Is the only way to leave the dungeon resetting your level to 1? That's pretty severe...

It is pretty addictive btw, and free. People should try it out.

In some places the 3G/Wi-Fi is cheaper than the Wi-Fi only model. So maybe that's the reason.

Anyway, I think my problem with MotorStorm RC was that I saved the game without being connected to Internet. It shouldn't work that way, but I played a couple of races connected to PSN and it worked. So now I have 18 medals...

what he can say?

"we fucked it up, we were just thinking of anti piracy methods instead of allowing Vita to use big and cheap flash cards. now we got small 4GB memory cards with many Vita owners thanks to the starter packs and publishers/developers will need to make their games small so they can sell them to more Vita owners"

low textures and very bad audio quality to lower the size is not "wizardry"

Ok so I finally upgraded my memory card to 32gb. What is everyone doing with their older memory cards? Still have my 8/16 cards. I want to use my jp account but I don't want to have keep resetting my vita just to play games.

Going through Hotline Miami and I thought playing on the Vita would be even easier than when I beat the game the first time on PC. Apparently not. Also, Gods Eater Burst is still so good.

Holding on to my 8gb for my second Vita when the time comes. Maybe a friend gets a Vita for the holidays, I will just donate. Not really worth the hassle for the peanuts you wiil get selling.

So now I'm definitely getting a Vita in two days, What PSN server should I sign up in?

I know I already asked this earlier but I have no friends who own the Vita and most have a 3DS(due to pokemon and SMT games on DS). Vitabros won me over and I was considering what server I should join in. I live in Asia so Asia PSN would be the first choice but since I was thinking of joining you guys on some MPs I considered getting in EU/US PSN. Can I still join you guys while being in the Asia server?

This is the question that's been bothering me right after PS+ difference on each server.

OT: Any chance of a Dissidia 3 after FFXV?

I think most GAF Vita owners are Americans.
Some games (not all of them) allow cross regions play in online multiplayers iirc
EU PS+ is better than US PS+
EU got better PSone collection
I have no idea about HK/ASIA stores
Gurumin (best PSP game ever) is not available in EU PSstores
Dissidia 3 dunno... maybe? but not on Vita (since SE don't really care about Vita).

Makes me wonder how the Vita would've performed if they would've just used standard SD cards for memory. Didn't know about the game size restrictions. Does that mean there won't be many games that look as good as Killzone?

The biggest problem I have with Destiny of Spirits is just how slow everything is. It should not take 5+ seconds to go from one menu screen to another. :/

Yeah, I'm hoping that gets tightened up before launch. It seems like it is connecting to the servers for every single thing that you do, so every time you change menus, it has to talk to the server. It's really sluggish when you're putting your party together.

Hey guys, I've spent about $130 in October from my PS4 pre-orders. Recommend me a $20 Vita game so I can get an even $150 for the promotion.

I forgot to add but if I buy an R3(HK) game can I still join R1(US)/R2(EU) Servers? A lot of store here just sell R3 games. Or should I just abandon the thought of buying physical
copies?

Dissidia 3 dunno... maybe? but not on Vita (since SE don't really care about Vita).
