Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

The biggest problem I have with Destiny of Spirits is just how slow everything is. It should not take 5+ seconds to go from one menu screen to another. :/

It takes me like half a second. The only thing that takes awhile for me is the initial start up time.

top of the page recommondations... get the same things I always say to get:

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken
Shock Troopers (PSP)
Quell Memento

Makes me wonder how the Vita would've performed if they would've just used standard SD cards for memory. Didn't know about the game size restrictions. Does that mean there won't be many games that look as good as Killzone?

Smaller games can still look good I guess, but to have something as big Killzone but they'll have to cut corners if they want to do that (KZ:M already have tiny SP), since they'll need more size for better texture quality.

I think this what developer suffer with if they want to have better looking games on Vita

1- Game cards are 4GB only. no solution here but to cut corners/contents.
2- Go digital and make the games bigger than 4GB memory cards and you risk losing all potential buyers with only 4GB memory cards and sell less.

I believe that collections and ports with lower res and low textures are a result the this size problem Sony put Vita in. Memory cards is a big issue (size and price) that turned many people off of buying Vita and the small sized gamecard is also a problem that hurt Vita in many ways, Sony should've never make the small 4GB memory cards, they should've never went with small gamecard with 4GB max size, going with flash cards (for both memory card and gamecards), they can still fight piracy doing what Nintendo is doing.

it's clear that they put fighting piracy as their top priority while making Vita (resulting in small weird looking tiny memory cards and gamecards) and didn't thought much about what gamers want and what developer want for their games and they just screwed Vita in the long run.

It takes me like half a second. The only thing that takes awhile for me is the initial start up time.

is the PSP port good?

and Noi new avatar is just weird.

is the PSP port good?

Yeah, it's great. It's not like the two, stand-alone Metal Slug 1 & 2 ports. Runs perfect, competent options, small filesize, cheap enough. Only thing that might put some people off is there's no infinite continues in the options, but it's not really a hard game and stays fun enough to replay.

1.- They would probably make 8GB game cards standard once 4GB mem cards are discontinued. I don't think they'd last much longer, new bundles have an 8gb card. Maybe they aren't producing them anymore and stores are cleaning stock. With a 64GB one coming in the next few months, 4GB looks completely useless.

2.- I don't think anybody with a 4GB memory card is using them for anything more than save data. And the casual gamer usually prefers retail over digital distribution (in consoles, I mean). If someone want to download games, they'll probably have a bigger card.

Anyone played the following games and if so how are they?

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Secret Agent Clank
Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier
Daxter

It looks like they are all fairly similar. Are the controls ok considering there wasn't a second analog stick on PSP?

Man it's really hard to find infos on valhalla knights 3, the game has lots of secrets and things that are up to you to understand...
The best(or should i say the only one?) source of info is the gamefaqs' board:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/684063-valhalla-knights-3

There are lots of questions and relative answers, if someone else other than me(lol) has(or plans to buy) vk3 go to the link for really useful infos.
Apparently i'm not the only one to think that vk3 is a very underrated and addictive game :)

650px × 366px? wah

so are these downscaled PS3 screens or Vita screens.

I think these might be Vita screenshots. Otherwise, why don't they release them in 720p as usual?

Worst case scenario? Ps3 shot at the real vita resolution lol
:(

Do we know what is the real resolution of downscaled games like P4G, Uncharted GA, MGS HD collection or Gravity Rush? Honest question. I'd like to know this for reference.

I copied these FFX/X-2 screens to my Vita and they look nice. But again, I am not sensitive at all to this kind of stuff (res or fps) unless it is glaringly bad.

Hello VitaGAF. I bought a Vita a while back and haven't messed with PSN at all since Persona 4 was taking up my time (still kinda is), but the Buy $50, Get $10 Back sale got me interested.

So I was wondering if you anyone can recommend me some must-play PSP/Vita games to buy. No preference to genre and I'm willing to spend quite a bit. Thanks in advance.

Dissidia 012
Dissidia 012 Prologus

that's like $43 right there

Do you have ps+ if not buy that.
Otherwise i would say, killzone mercenary, uncharted golden abyss, wipeout 2048, sonic transformed, gravity rush and zen pinball.

I've been anticipating the 4GB restriction, being a problem, for a long time... same as install-limits used to be when 20-40GB PS3's were taken into account, and how it effected MGS4 early on. It wasn't redacted until around Gran Turismo 5 and Rage. Been complaining about it ever since FFX/X-2 announcement, assuming that there'd be no way they'd make an 8GB duo on 1 game card, for $40-50 if there can't be a digital equivalent on the store.

Vita, as a platform, could theoretically start to say "fuck 'em" when it comes to 4GB cards existing... but the platform had to have been healthy and selling, card prices would have had to have been 1/4th cheaper than they were from the get go with 4GB included free with every Vita, the new model had to be a desirable replacement (more than 1GB internal storage that doesn't deactivate when you put in a memory card) etc in order for 4GB + original model to be supplanted as the most common sku, and be common enough to matter.

Also... I kind of feel like buying Angry Birds Trilogy because I need $31 more to get an extra $10 back before the 29th :/

Is it absolutely necessary to buy the first one?
Dragon's Crown and Spelunky
Thank you!

For PS+, I was thinking about waiting for the Black Friday deal for the $30 subs. But maybe I can get one year for now. I'm currently in my free month that I received when I bought my PS3 a little while ago. And thank you for the recommendations!
Ew, what reason would someone have to buy all those? Just get Duodecim and maybe Prologus if you want that church demon.

Thanks.

If you plan on getting plus this month, don't buy anything until late tuesday (when the promo ends). They should announce november's free games lineup tomorrow, maybe the new yearly ones as well.

Going through Hotline Miami and I thought playing on the Vita would be even easier than when I beat the game the first time on PC. Apparently not. Also, Gods Eater Burst is still so good.

Hotline Miami is not harder or easier on Vita, its just very diffrent game. Throwing is lot harder to fast now, but melee is easier. You can ran past your enemy and then stab, the AI seems to have big problem with that.

Gotcha. I'll just make a list of everyone's suggestions and see if any become available.

So do you get to play the free games only during the month it was announced? Or is it until you have the PSN+ subscription active?

Thanks again everyone.

Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure is a must buy, it's my best PSP ever.

Gurumin is a action adventure RPG/Platforms hybrid (yes there is almost everything here) it might remind you for some N64 platformers, Zelda and Megaman Legend but it's more than that, as it got it's own identity and is full of souls and charm.

The combat system is not shallow and require skill and you can feel badass doing the jump attack if you get your timing right, aside from fire and ice lightning for your legendary drill there are tons of upgrades for for Parin outfit, game can be very challenging in higher difficulties but the easy mode is good for new comers. There is platforming in Gurumin and it's pretty good and also hidden collectables and lots of secrets and dungeons ( to beat and to break your record and to discovers hidden paths) plus puzzles and some funny mini games.

also It got really awesome cast, funny and strong female lead (Parin) with awesome cast from a blob dancing thingy to a big blue legendary cat and it's a voiced PSP game, the story is also is sweet and get dark later on and you'll need to beat every dungeons to get the true ending which will make you cry (both endings are "good" by the way).

and for icing on the cake? it look awesome on Vita and with mapping L/R to the right stick for camera controls it remove PSP platforming camera control issue and play better on Vita.

^ it even better looking than some of the recent Vita games

buy it.

*sorry European guys*

Lol Toto, you just sold me on Gurumin. I'll get it sometime before the end of the year. It really looks charming.

Btw, how long is it?

Wonder if anyone can name all the games in my bubbles :-)
m750o8z.jpg

This maybe envy talk since mine doesn't seem to have dispatched yet but that is lazy organisation! There are way nicer default system backgrounds too. Maybe lazy is not the right word...boring :P
I get why you'd want them all to be easy to access, but at least have genre bubbles. Need ideas! I'm going to have so much fun rearranging those bubbles.

Problem with genre bubbles I know is that you end up having to mix retail with digital only. Gets a bit messy. Maybe your way is best. That's pretty much how I've set it up now actually...just spaced out over pages.

I recognise quite a lot of the games but you've got some weird ones in there!

Have you bought the retail version of KZ:M? The drawing in the gamecard looks like a Helghast (it's written that way, right?)

Man, you sure are crazy. There are lots of Vita games. Sony should send you a Kat figurine or something to show you some gratitude.

Respect :)

PS: Are there more than 100 items?

Lol Toto, you just sold me on Gurumin. I'll get it sometime before the end of the year. It really looks charming.

I think a run on normal difficulty beating all the dungeons on any rank and getting the true ending can be 14~16 hours. If you want to S rank all the dungeons (kill all enemies) and to get all the outfits it can take longer.

Edit: so cute

For a moment I read that as "Kaz figurine". Lol.

I'm really gonna be irritated if SE doesn't do a physical release of FFX/X-2HD for the Vita.

I'm also hoping for that, but PS3 pricing will definitely be an issue. Personally, I'll pay whatever they ask, but it is likely those expecting to pay the same as the PS3 disc might be disappointed.

I wish..just wish...someone/journalist would ask a sony executive flat out why their western studios have given up on vita almost completely. The new Sony BEND news thread is just disheartening. As much as likeable a PR person Shuhei is he has mismanaged the software line up for this system big time.

Yeah I used to split things into genres but then I just couldn't be bothered with the upkeep also yeah the backgrounds are pretty boring but I have gotten used to it now lol

Still haven't hit that 100 item limit yet but I don't buy many psmobile games and yeah I have the retail version of KZ:M mainly because it's so damn big lol

Crazy you say, I like to consider myself as more of a vita game hoarder.

I also recently got the vita 2000 and in person the screen is pretty good, the pictures and videos on the net really don't do it justice!!!

Perfect length! After my replay of P4G and FFVIII I was looking for something shorter.

Besides Gurumin and Persona 4, are there any good, lengthy RPGs I should download? I'm about to be without any PC, console or internet for a while, so I need some good, long quality games. I'll take any suggestions.

I'm also hoping for that, but PS3 pricing will definitely be an issue. Personally, I'll pay whatever they ask, but it is likely those expecting to pay the same as the PS3 disc might be disappointed.

If it's digital only for NA it better cost $29.99 for FFX and $19.99 for FFX-2

I really don't want too, but I might have to end up tripple (quad) dipping on this remake

PS3
PSV JP
and NA digital.....ugh

Also hoping I can transfer my saves around.

Yeah, it's a shame... people who will rage and throw a fit, and sites that will slam the pricing in headlines will likely prevent it from materializing as $30 & $30 for physical release. Just buy the PS3 release, and let us Vita retail-release people have our fun.

It's a grid-based strategy RPG for PSP, but I dug the few hours I played of Gungnir. It's really slick, but if you like games like that and by some chance haven't played Tactics Ogre, get that first. Any of the Disgaea games are worth it for that genre and give you a serious bang for your buck, too.

Cladun & Cladun x2 are great semi-roguelike, old-school action rpgs with tons of gameplay, good for small bursts of pick up and play. I really enjoyed them and they're very small filesizes, which is a plus for small memory cards.

Unchained Blades & Class of Heroes 2 are also nice takes on the first person dungeon crawling rpg. Can't find any good video to link for those two.

Guess I'm buying Gurumin lol. I loved platformers for the N64, so I'll hold this high quality to you. It looks like something I'll enjoy though.

Is it true that the retail version of Killzone takes up over 1GB of memory card space?

You have to download a patch that's over 1GB.

How do you get multiple games in a bubble like that? There's a limit cap per bubble?

hold on a any bubble then click "create folder" and then you can drop whatever you want inside that folder. 10 bubbles per folder.

Do it! I ended up getting it, and it's pretty good. Wildly overpriced, of course, but it's still arguably the best version of the game -- you get the enhanced graphics (such as they are) of the PS3 version, combined with the fact you play the game the way it was meant to be played, with either of the touchscreens. I know people mock it, but I've had a lot of fun playing it.

I will dip several times in this game. So you are not the only one if that makes you feel better. :)

Also it has been confirmed that the games will feature cross-save between the PS3 and Vita versions. I'm not sure it will be possible across copies from other regions though.
