People here were hardly upset. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Most people on the internet also loves these September 11 videos on youtube set to the Benny Hill theme and the Crazy Frog song. Both of those videos have a massive amount of thumbs up and very few thumbs down.
Your anecdotal evidence is pretty bad. Grasping for straws.

Most people on the internet love those videos? No. I haven't even seen those videos. Most people on the internet have not even seen those videos.

No thanks. I'd rather not allow people to think doing shit like that is ok. Want to broadcast that you're a racist idiot? Your employer has every right to distance themselves from you.

Job life and personal life should be separate. If they're doing their job they should have no legal basis for firing someone. I'm not okay with an employer firing me for thinking I play too many video games for example because I talk about them a lot on facebook. That is what this kind of thing will lead to if we allow it as a society.

There's a big difference between playing too many video games in your off time and being a racist prick.

One's a hobby. The other involves interpersonal relations.

There's a pretty vast gulf between "playing a bunch of video games" and "wearing blackface and mocking the murder of an unarmed teenager."

you playing video games isnt the same as that shitty halloween costume

this is the worst slippery slope argument ive seen in a while

Are you actually being serious right now?

Problem is if you have to interact with people and your personal life shows some sort of critical flaw that may impair your ability to treat people equally then it is a problem.

The blackface make up is stupid, but I don't mind the costume idea itself.
really?

Please don't make the mistake of thinking these are not racist pieces of crap here's the idiot with the black face. Check out the language he uses to describe the woman. And this was from 2010.

Wow. This just makes me sad more than anything.

Or you know... the consequence of being a racist.

Don't post racist shit on the internet and you won't lose your job.

There are consequences for both the racists and people who allow themselves to be consumed with the desire for revenge (resentment), the latter being much more subtle.

I'm really disappointed that I wasn't around for the Trayvon Martin thing here. So many arguments I could've had . . . :(
It was crazy times. The threads got super heated. Even though I disagreed with quite a few people I think it was one of the more memorable moments here on GAF. Quite a few of us followed the trial extremely closely.

do you interact with a lot of space invaders and Pac men in your job?

I can't help but laugh at this whole situation. The completely over the top and racist costume and a lot of the ignorant and offensive things some people are saying here. So much hate over people who clearly do not care.

Nah. When interviewing you also want to make sure personality and character fits with the company. If you are a racist asshole, I don't mind businesses saying no to that shit. I certainly wouldn't hire her

This is one good thing about Facebook and twitters use of real info and pics. No more anonymous just getting away with bullshit. The world gets to turn on you when you make an ass out of yourself

Sad to see this type of shit, and with so many outlets like FB and Twitter, there's just no shortage of these type of moronic things.

Well, getting fired from their jobs will probably make them care.

Job life and personal life were not separate even before the days of Facebook. It just makes it easeir to make a complete ass of yourself in public when you are posting it on the internet for the world to see. Nobody wants their company to be associated with racists pieces of shit.

If you want to be act like a moron online, don't let people know your real name or employer

Your employer likely has a social media policy and won't want to be associated with you if you bring them negative attention

This is the way a lot of skilled labor does operate. Behavior (usually expressed with the term "integrity") is usually only paramount if you're interacting with the public, interacting with other companies, or expected to have an administrative role of some kind.

Spend some time in a machine, electrician, or maintenance shop in any industrial environment and you'll hear some awful shit. Because these people do not manage themselves and don't have to get along with anybody. They just have to do their job as scheduled and instructed.

If I was a manager, I wouldn't want someone representing my company who actively and tastelessly expressed sentiment I disagreed with.

Makes me happy one was fired. Hopefully the other two are fired if they are working somewhere.

lol are some people actually upset that they actually have to take responsibility for their actions?
Toot the first amendment all you like, every word and action has a consequence.

I really wanna believe we've made progress in this country with race relations. Then the internet wakes me up from my naivete. At least a small bit of social justice was done if nothing else.
