Yeah, racism in the workplace and education is over, sexism is over too.

Let me guess, you think the NAACP is a hate group.

Oh come on he's just trying to be honest. It can get frustrating to be a decent person from the south and still hear so much about the evil things our ancestors did. Of course it's no comparison to the other side of the coin, and all of those issues still exist, but I think that's where this sentiment comes from often. It's like, "I'm a good person and I treat everybody the same and I see diverse people who are successful, I wish people would lay off me (and by me I mean the people of the south who aren't asshats)."

Judging from his tone I'm sure he doesn't agree with your straw men, or just doesn't understand the challenges that still exist

What of this, GAF?

I'm sure most people wont agree, but I think this campaign against racism causes more issues than genuine racists do. I live in Alabama. We still have the klan around here.... I see black people making a living, going through college, and getting good jobs everyday. There are a bunch of scholarships and aide for black people and jobs to be had. I honestly believe success is a choice now. I see white people fuck up their life by making bad choices, and I see black people doing the same. I watch whites and blacks create a good life based on their choices.

As far as the social media "attacks".... just like every other social media outbursts. Shit will be forgotten in a month or when something else stupid occurs. We live in a country where people "liking a FB picture" is going to change the world.

And yes the costume is disgusting. It has nothing to do with race. Forget the fucking racism part. A kid was killed and people are dressing up as him. That'sissue in my book.

It's stupid posts like this that make me less than confident in the future of race relations.

The "calling out racism is worse than actual racism" card is decades old, and is mainly used by white people who want to pretend racism no longer exists unless someone - typically a black person or white liberal - revives it from its grave with an accusation. You see black and white people doing well in Alabama, and have thus decided that racism must not play a factor in the country - after all, we have a black president.

You see a picture of a guy in blatant blackface and see no racism. The fact that you live in one of the most backward, ignorant states in the country and STILL don't recognize racism and prejudice as a problem tells me everything I need to know about you.

terrifying that this is the "nice" face of the thing he is pretending doesn't exist.

I just had my own experience with a person wearing a racist costume.

My boss' daughter hops happily into the room I'm cleaning with a straw hat and a fake moustache while trying to speak in a Spanish accent earlier today.

When I realized that her costume was making fun of a Spanish worker, I flipped out on her. She's 13 years old and her mother allowed her to dress in a racist manner while working as a waitress at a Halloween party. It was disgraceful. The girl didn't get it and the mother didn't either. Both were laughing as I told the girl to change her costume.

Five minutes later the girl walks out of the bathroom with just the fake moustache on. The moustache is cut to look like Hitler's and she's doing the Nazi salute.

Some parents don't fucking get that kids can pick this stuff up so easily and it's their job to not allow for such behavior. Parents really let down this generation of children.

"campaign against racism"

Not sure if honest if the way id use to describe that comment, ignorant covers it but theres a lot of willfulness in it, anecdotal evidence that goes directly against reality is bad enough, but trying to equate racism and the removal of it from society; no matter how misguided some of those efforts might be, is ridiculous and offensive. Its people like him that like that argue that voting laws were changed last year because racism is over while voting suppression is hitting poor minorities. Downplaying a decades-long struggle as a "campaign against racism" and implying the outrage is in some form dishonest and fabricated tells the whole story.

"campaign against racism"

"Ni***r Agenda" was probably too much.

I'd like to meet a black woman in her early 20's who's that ignorant to slavery. I could see overseas but not in this country.

With bullet holes in them or in the hoodie alone?

Hoodie, Skittles, Iced Tea. No bullet holes.

Yeah, I don't think they would take it that far.

I honestly believe success is a choice now.
Want to know who this isn't true for? Everyone. Want to know who it especially isn't true for? Minorities and people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds; members of the first group being more likely to belong to the second. This holds true even for societies more equitable than the USA.

Black Woman Poses As White Woman - Suddenly Job Offers Come Tumbling In

Well I just meant he was being honest about his feelings. And I didn't pick up on a militant anti-civil rights tone, more of a lament that we all (rightfully) have to keep reminding ourselves of our past and the fact that that can cause the painful issue to (rightfully) linger. He may disagree with the parentheses.

Mainly, I meant that he wasn't exactly saying "Man racism doesn't exist anymore," and so I wish people wouldn't have attacked him as though he were. He sounded like the type of person that can be talked to rather than mocked (which will probably just reinforce his opinion)

I understand people taking offense too, obviously

Everybody is racist one way or another.

Everyone needs to stop using this concept to sound smart and cultured.

I'm sure most people wont agree, but I think this campaign against racism causes more issues than genuine racists do.

Yes, let's ignore it and it will go away.

I see black people making a living, going through college, and getting good jobs everyday. There are a bunch of scholarships and aide for black people and jobs to be had. I honestly believe success is a choice now.

... and you don't see how this makes you sound racist as shit?

I mean, besides the "success is a choice" bullshit,

What if a 13 year old in Spain dressed up as a character from Downton Abbey with faux english accent?

The difference is the Downtown Abbey costume was worn because that person likes the show. This girl wore the costume to make fun of another ethnicity.

Do we have any update on whether the other two in the photo has been laid off or at least reprimanded?
