seriously.... an inch of rain in six hours?

I just had a fairly hairy landing at Gatwick. The runway was covered in surface water too, and I just had to wait about 40 minutes for a train to somewhere I don't really want to go because several others were cancelled. TBF it is pissing it down. But this is London, it's hardly unprecedented. I reckon it's like when it snows - people more than capable of going to work just sack it off in an orgasm of national excitement.

Well, I'm glad my phone is waterproof because I was soaked to the skin on my way back from work. Still no wind but the rain is heavy and unrelenting. The last storm we had was just wind basically so I guess we should expect a lil bit of flash flooding this time too; probably nothing serious where I live, but some roads are kinda flooded already.

Also I have been in Spain since Thursday and I just remembered I left my window open. ffs. I should be home on half an hour or so, I'll update ya'll - don't worry!

Nowt happening in Blackburn

Nowt ever happens in Blackburn

Well there was an EDL march that time

And that one time there was a documentary about benefit cheats

And some mild grooming

Nothing but a light drizzle in Cambridge. Not even so much as a faint breeze

Well the ground is soaked, the trees are in full leaf still, so any really strong winds should be interesting.

Man being made of brick and stone really helped this house during Sandy.

half-house.jpg

Hurricane Sandy was a category 3 when it hit land, as was Katrina. I've lived through at least 5 or 6 hurricanes in my lifetime. One of those hurricanes being a category 4 at landfall which wiped out 90% of the houses on island. I can assure you that building a concrete-block house makes a huge difference in a hurricane.

Also that house is nowhere approximating a house built with hurricanes in mind. Never mind the fact that I'm not seeing any concrete or bricks/blocks (apart from the basement).

Current maximum wind gust recorded at 0100 is 92mph at Needles Old Battery - Isle of Wight.

If the low continues to deepen as it passes over the UK people in Norfolk might want to consider digging a hole and hiding in it.

The wind sure has picked up this morning.

Hmm, trying to come up with excuses to not go in, but this isn't going to cut it.

I can hear the wind, doesn't seem so bad here (just as I type this it's getting angry). But the worst part is getting up in the morning, I wish I could just snuggle up in bed! :(

Apologies to those in the north but it seems us southerners weren't wiped off the face of the earth overnight. My broadband is sulking which is a disaster in itself but not gonna make the history books with that.

Wow. The wind picked up quite a bit just now. I'd thought it would all be over but nope. Feel for the commuters who have to leave the house around now.

Yeah I'm in London too. To be honest it just sounds bad. It's not that strong when you walk to the shops.
Yeah, I sleep under the roof with a fireplace in the room so I get the sound of the wind blow down the chimney and hit the roof.

Mixed with the clocks going back means I"ve woken up a bit earlier than usual. Hopefully I'm not yawning all day.

My problem is that the smallest amount of rain can cause traffic problems in this area so I'm really not looking forward to seeing the traffic as a result of this.

Woke my daughter up an hour early, dammit. That's two 6am wakes in a row.

Still, I'm enjoying watching the trees sway & bend - I love storms. At east two bus of our neighbours fence are in bits in the garden too.

Tubes & bases showing no dsruption so no day off, but I'm sure as shit not riding my bike today!

Sounds like windy was the crappiest part of it in some areas.

Yep, the gusts have already decreased in strength here. No trees down on the A road outside, all flowing as normal.

Made it out of my bed to make a cup of tea, found out it was just my phone being stupid about WIFI so I'm rating this storm zero fucks/10, idris-elba-cancelling-apocalypse.gif

Looking forward to a boring day at work :|

it's all panic in the netherlands now. About to drive to work traffic should be awesome.

All I can see from my window is a car park surrounded by walls, but the car park looks exactly the same as it did last night.

Hold me...

Edit: this is Bristol

What a load of disappointment. Bournemouth was meant to be among the worst hit. All I got was a load of wind hitting my window. No random ferries in my garden, no bowling arenas floating overhead.

My Bernese got terrified, came upstairs and tried to jump in my bed at 3am

Other than that, nothing. But looking outside I am glad I work from home and don't have to get on my motorcycle today.

(11pm Sunday) I live on the Severn Estuary coast between the two Severn bridges, smack bang in the path of Uberstorm. Been out side for the past ten minutes and it's raining normally but there's not a breath of wind. It's calmer right now than it's been for over a week. This is obviously the calm before the storm, as the old Severn Bridge is already closed and they just said on Radio 5 that the Second Severn Crossing will close at 3am. Anyone wanting to get between South Wales and the West Country tomorrow has a nice eighty mile diversion around Gloucester.

Update to the above:

Went to bed with no sign of the storm and just woke up with no sign of it again. Didn't hear anything overnight, and it's perfectly calm outside. No sign of any high winds in the garden - no branches on the ground, just a few leaves scattered about and a lawn chair is exactly where I left it yesterday. If it wasn't for all the news coverage I'd never have known anything about it. Good news for travellers - the Second Severn Crossing (new bridge) is now open again.

We were supposed to be in the eye of this storm overnight, but evidence suggests it completely passed us by.

Edit: Storm-GAF - any updates you post are useless unless you say where you are..!

London - looks like it hasn't rained in hours. The ground is perfectly dry, sky doesn't look like a storm is brewing. Cloudy, but not dark and scary. Just windy. Disappointed.

Worst storm ever. :P

Looked outside, no casualties, no lost limbs, just a bit of trash misplaced.

1/10.

Has the worst of it hit anyway? It was pretty loud around 4am.
