Warning: "largest storm since 1987" set to batter Britain

Brief moment of hope as the train board said 10:42 was happening. Now dashed; more trees found on the tracks. Not like Chichester to Crawley is reliable at best of times.

If Virgin Media hadn't fucked up my phone/ADSL I'd not have even bothered getting out of bed.

HEY YOU GUYS FORGOT IT WAS AUTUMN RIGHT?!

Who is the stupid person responsible for overhyping this as the worst storm since 87? I want to know the person so I should never trust a word coming out of his/her shit-smeared mouth. I don't watch news
because it's bad for your mental health
so I don't need any more fear mongering spilling to people I know in my life.

This is more disappointing than Prometheus/Avatar/Ass Creed/Man of Steel/Public Enemies/Bloc Party/Muse/Superman Returns/Transformers/Death Note/Marvel Civil War/Southland Tales/Greenberg/Tideland/The Limits of Control all combined.

As much as it feels like absolutely nothing where I am, two people have died so far :-(

It's not even windy in Oxford, really. Bit damp, maybe.

Yeah, a little breeze, a light drizzle and that was it in Oxford. Was a bit windy when I got to work (over in Wallingford), but really nothing to worry about around these parts. Saw on (small) felled branch and thats's it. Heck, the biggest delay on the way to work was due to an articulated lorry trying to reverse into a building site, nothing whatsoever to do with the storm.

That said, it's raining again now. Not quite to a brolly-worthy extent.

Apparently there's a "Class 1" warning starting in 5 hrs or so in Sweden where I am, which translated from Swedish media typically means "Citizens of Stockholm, stay inside if you want to live" and "The rest of you, carry on. Maybe a tree will fall or something, just lift it away from the road if so".

I might go outside and watch the dog go nuts because of the wind.

Nothing has happened here.

I landed yesterday, heard the news about the storm, and was like, 'Oh shit, apocalypse is coming.' But then nothing really happened where I am. So, this is awkward. Hope rest of you folks have kept safe, I have heard some unfortunate things here and there.

A couple of trees fell over near my house, one of which went through some power/telephone lines. Woke up with no power, but that's not exactly uncommon for my shitty powergrid.

This tree just missed my house. Luckily it fell in that direction instead of towards the house.

Sitting here at work, and it's really really windy.

Then again, I'm right near the river and it always seems really windy... although today it's a lot noisier than normal.

This is Rochester, BTW.

I had no idea these hurricane winds were going to make to the rest of Europe too - was biking on the way back from an early gathering this morning, and damn it, every few minutes everyone had to stop biking, that's how crazy the winds were. I'm home for the rest of the day, no need to and no reason to set foot outside again either.

The local radio station was supposed to be at our gathering but they called to cancel yesterday at the last moment because of today's storm for reporting about it - I see why now.

Getting pretty crazy here to, cracked flagpoles, debris flying from containers, couple of trees who are about to crack.

Can you imagine that this is your houseboat.. Damn.
Damn. Just another reason to not live on the water. Can you imagine your house flooding like that? Glad to live two stories high. Even if the sea makes its way land inward I should still be good. :P

Rode my bike into work this morning and saw nothing of real note except bits of tree detritus on a bmw and a felled tree in hyde park. Obviously people thought it prudent to shut the entire bloody park though, so my only gripe was cycling all the way around it.

270,000 homes without electricity now apparently.

Ours is back on and has been on for a couple of hours. I've just been around to check the exterior of the house. Seems we do have some broken fencing I need to fix.

Lots of trees down in the local area of West Dorset. Nearly every major road has had at least one. The Dorchester to Weymouth road had over 20 trees down blocking it.

I live in The Netherlands, apartment on the 18th floor and my fucking window blew out of the window frame and broke the locking mechanism. So I couldn't close the window anymore.

I literally had to lean against the window with all my strength like Superman until after an hour help finally arrived. They bolted the windows shut as emergency solution, ruined the window frames but at least the window is closed. Downside is that now I'm going to have the entire frame replaced at some point.

I've never seen anything like this before, it's insane. And my arms are tired now, haha.

The route to Wimborne and Ferndown was pretty bad earlier.

This time last year getting ready for hurricane Sandy, no power for 11 days, by some weird luck even with the power cables snapped i had power for a few days..then they came and cut the power lines, being the dark for all those days sucked, be safe UK gaf.

Well, it was quite windy last night, live in Bow, East London. A bit of corrugated iron on a wall on a building site next to my flat was torn off, a lot of fences on people gardens were down and a few small trees were down this morning. Travel was ok, I take the central line from Mile End and it was busier than usual, still got into work about the same time I always do though.
