Nvidia slashes prices on GeForce GTX 780 and GTX 770 GPUs

Following the GeForce 660 and 650 Ti Boost price cuts NVIDIA decided also to lower the prices of high-end segment.

Current price of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 780 is far from being competitive in comparison to Radeon R9 290X and the upcoming R9 290. Both cards are supposedly faster than GTX 780, so the Green Team had no choice but to lower the price of their flagship. Of course NVIDIA has still an ace in the hole, yet unreleased GeForce GTX 780 Ti, but it two weeks before it reaches the market.

New prices

NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 780 will receive a price cut over $100. Final prices are not yet confirmed , although first European retailer has dropped the price to €430.

NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 770 will now cost around $50 less (€279 in EU).

UPDATE:

GTX 770 from 279 EUR
GTX 780 from 429 EUR
KFA2 GTX 780 from £419.99 inc VAT (OCUK)

NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 780 will receive a price cut over $100. I don’t have any exact number yet, but this would suggest a price between $549 to $529 (to be confirmed).

Still too expensive IMO. But at least they are lowering the price.

Makes sense with the AMD X200 benchmarks being what they are. I bought my GTX780 three weeks ago and love it. Don't really mind about the price drop but good for whoever is in the market for one.

Cutting the price, sure.

Slashing? - Nah.

When i read or hear about slashing prices..i think about Simon Skinner.

" A slasher... of prices! I'm Simon Skinner"

So the 770 Asus DCU2 now costs the same as the R9 280x Asus DCU2 in the UK. Well this changes everything, Nvidia here I come baby!

I can get a 780 in holland about 430 euro's now, that's good pretty good.

Edit: 30 euro's cheaper cause i forgot to put the filter to lowest price.

Nvidia thinks their software ecosystem is worth that much. I happen to agree, actually -- the value of a GPU doesn't derive only from FPS.

Speaking from the mobile side of things, I have to agree.

Give me a £50-100 premium for an Nvidia GPU any day purely for the more regular (and consistent) drivers and less hassle. I mean, don't get me wrong - mobile GPUs are still a sh*t show for the most part but it's very much the lesser of two evils here.

Also, the G-Sync announcement sold me on Nvidia cards until AMD offers a similar solution. Really hoping laptops will start incorporating that to the display by the end of next year.

Guess both sides of the fence are pretty happy now, great time to get either brand of cards.

Which shop? I mainly use Azerty or 4Launch and the cheapest ones they have are about €550.

I used the tweakers.net pricewatch thing to see if any prices had changed and it seems Afuture is the quickest to do so.

I've had no issues with Afuture, bought 2 gtx 580's and a monitor from them throughout the years.

Aha, should've thought about that.

I'm still waiting to see how the regular 290 will pan out, then I might start looking for something to replace my HD 6850.

Waiting Maxwell to upgrade from my 570 SLI is getting harder... ShadowPlay + price cut.... must resist.

I also have 570SLI, believe me.. maxwell will be worth the wait (especially performance-wise).

570 SLI brother here too. They still have legs for a little longer as they give performance similar to a 590, but yes, Maxwell needs to hurry up. Very interested to see if the ARM CPU makes it into the product and what it brings.

Man why do BE prices suck so much compared to the ones in holland?
The cheapest one is 580 euros here

has it already dropped there or what?

Same here.
While I'm extremely glad for those price cuts (I'll have to take advantage from them, eventually) and I'm going to thank AMD for that, I would still prefer an Nvidia GPU over an AMD one even if the performance-per-dollar ratio is going to be marginally less advantageous.
