Disgusting Trayvon Martin halloween costume... what is wrong with people?

Yeah, I can't believe there is people there celebrating to a costume the murder of a young innocent kid.

I can't believe there are people calling for their lives to be ruined. Well, I can, it is just sad to see. But whatever makes people feel better. That moral highground is looking a bit shaky though.

You seem to think highly of a bunch of people who wouldn't bat an eye for the lives of many blacks to "be ruined".

She's a racist PoS that revel in her racism and broadcast her hatred for everyone to see, people are right in telling her employer the type of people they're associating his/her brand.

Nope, but if you want to assume wrong things, don't let me stop you. I think they are utter wankers who acted like shits and probably racist as hell. Doesn't mean I think their life should be ruined or that it would achieve anything meaningful if it was.

But tell me again how highly I think of them.

If it doesn't impact their work, they probably don't deserve to lose their jobs. Just my view. Obviously not the majority view.

But what do you think they will learn from this? Not what they should learn, but what will they actually take away from it? Nothing that will prevent them being racist shitheads, that's for sure.

I don't understand how one can be so thick headed as to not understand why any equal opportunity employer would want to be associated with these people.

They are a reflection of the companies the work for.

So now I'm thick because I don't think they should automatically be prevented from working as so many people seem to want? If the employer doesn't want to continue to employe them, that is their business, I don't really care one way or the other about that. It is the thirst for vengeance that is so bizarre to me. But continue with the insults, please. Something a bit more creative this time, yes?

The time to learn was at school.
She can drown in her vileness for all I care.
The employer that will get the repercussions of employing vile people can lose potential sales because of her.
That is enough to get her fired.
I don't care at all if racist shitheads stay racist shitheads or decide to grow up and live in a decent society with the rest of non shitheads.
The employers need the money and shouldn't have to have to deal with the repercussion of being accused of condonning shitty behaviour.
The employer can keep her, that'll only mean they condonne racists shitheads.

Their lives are not ruined. The woman is from Martha's Vineyard and her brother works for their father that owns a carpentry business. The guy in blackface is not a model citizen and has been arrested twice. Here are two mugshots:

Please continue with the "bloodthirsty" bull. I would expect that any company that claims to be equal opportunity upholds that.

Explain to me how wanting companies that I would potentially patronize to not harbor racist pieces of shit is me being "bloodthirsty".

I'm glad when bigotry gets called out but I kinda take a step back when a crusade of equal or greater intensity is what is offered in return. You know, 'eye for an eye will make the world blind' kinda thing.

yup...and it still wouldn't change racists minds whatsoever from these crusades other than possibly enriching their prejudices/racist views. I'd be surprised if they change their racists views from these crusades.

Again, I don't care if the employer decides to fire them, I care about the level of blood lust calling for them to have their entire lives ruined. To never get another job again. Fucking ridiculous. Way out of all proportion to their crime.

And it is always time for learning.

If you owned the company these guys can be an integrity issue from a legal pov especially if they are in leadership roles.

Edit:Did they apologize?

After you explain how wanting peoples lives ruined over facebook posts and a costume isn't bloodthirsty. You have addressed no point of my posts other than to deny and make really bad assumptions.

If you owned the company these guys can be an integrity issue from a legal pov especially if they are in leadership roles.

I think you should read my subsequent post. I don't care about the employer firing them, I care about the way people are calling for stuff to happen to them.

That guy is ruining his life all by himself.

For fucks sake. Yes, they are not nice people. Yes, they acted like fuckwits. I am not talking about the actual repercussions, but the ridiculous level of demand for them to be ruined.

I'm going to bed, enjoy yourselves.

These people are fucking scum. Though, people need to keep the significance of a couple of racists still existing in the world in proper perspective. Some people are getting as bent out of shape over this as the actual shooting.

I mean, we would melt the internet down if every nobody who wore a Hitler costume got a thread.

If they never get employed ever again, well tough shit they weren't kids when they acted like shitheads.
Again if they didn't want to face the consequences, they'd better not be shouting their stupidity from the rooftops.
You don't get to complaign about getting by lighting when you decided it was a good idea to climb the tallest tree in a copper armour during a storm.

On top of that if they're in leadership roles, they probably ruined more lives than their own.

Gross. But I would be totally OK with a costume mocking George Zimmerman, since mocking and dressing as horrible people seems to me like a very positive catharsis for social traumas (see also: Bin Laden costumes).

Seriously, especially when there are groups planning armed insurrections against the International Bankers and the genocide of noninsertracehere Those loons are usually in groups too and hardly threadworthy.

Eh, if you think thats somehow worst than making fun a local kid's murder then our moral codes are incompatible to the point were a discussion would be pointless. I wasnt calling for their blood, just pointing out how you find more outrage at couple of hotheaded comments while you still pussyfooting about calling them racists. But like I said, different codes.

About that, ComputerMKII made a thread about a french official that was fired lately because he thought dressing as a SS, going into scat orgies in the sewers of Berlin were all AOK.
Was promptly fired too (and disgraced too, considering he'll never work as a public official probably).

They should be proud of who they are so people are making sure they get that spotlight.

As a non-american, allow me to share my point of view:

You guys are as bad as those racist fuckers, with that medieval mob mentality.
Because one thing is to just get offended by that kind of shitty behavior and mentality, one another completely different thing is to stalk those people and want to completely ruin their lives by posting all their information online.
I mean, just look at this post:

Their lives are not ruined. The woman is from Martha's Vineyard and her husband works for his father that owns a carpentry business. The guy in blackface is not a model citizen and has been arrested twice. Here are two mugshots:

Just look at all that information, this is plain creepy.
And before you call me a ''racism defender'' with that mob mentality of yours, no I'm not defending anything here.
All I'm saying is that you, mob, are as bad as them.

Racism makes life more interesting?

What a shit life you must live.
People doing stupid things, especially when it blows up in their face, is pretty interesting. This case is offensive in multiple manners, including racism (though I think the death of a kid is pretty bad regardless of race - don't you?), and still makes me smile. When comedians like Jimmy Carr make offensive jokes on purpose do you think it's terrible to laugh at them? Offensive things can be funny whether or not the joke is made intentionally and if no harm results.

The girl is craving for attention, so thats another thing you have in common with her.
You're right, really. I could have posted the obvious, "that's bad" along with everyone else but I decided to take a slightly different approach. Got some replies - totally worth it.

It's true that using publicly shared information is really just as bad as making fun of a dead kid whose etnicity you just happen to hate.
Totally the same thing.

I didn't stalk any of them. I just typed her name in Google to see if she actually got fired and landed on a different forum where people doxxed them.

Actually public shaming is a viable strategy to curb this bullshit. Other racists watching this story unfold may think twice before polluting the net with their trash.

For fucks sake, stop with the bullshit. They are racist, as I said in an earlier post. Pussyfooting around what? I need to establish my moral outrage cred before I can comment on the response to their stupidity? Rubbish.

And tell me where I said anything was wrose than anything else? Do you read what people post or do you just make shit up in your head and drive on from that?

Here, I'll say it simply and then I will actually go to bed. Grr, you are making me miss my nap time, old grumpy fucks need nap time.

What they did and said was utterly stupid. I would be more worried about their bullshit on FB than the stupid costume but it was all stupid. They seem to be quite racist. Random internet people calling for their blood is not as bad as what they did. But it is also fucking stupid.

Certainly not confirmed, but great if it's true.

well deserved.

however public shaming via mob mentality is not the way to do it. because it will set a precedence and might be caused next time by other groups on the stupid side of life.

My point being that the actions of a couple of douchey nobodies should not be elevated too far...to the point that we use it to prove anything we want to say about society. A French official (or Prince Henry) dressing as Hitler should be more of a controversy than any other random idiot with a camera phone, and even then I didn't read posts about British and French culture being rife with casual Nazis after the incidents.

In the case of the french official, the response were the same.
Remove the guy from the work force.
The guy was supposed to have signed a contract with some clauses that mean he can do whatever the shit he want if that didn't reflect badly on the function and the state.
He basically was part of online vids where he ate shit.
No offense but there was no way he was keeping his job, I mean the guy made DSK looks like a virgin in a covent :/
As for this, well if they didn't want to be shamed outa town, the 1rst step is "not fucking post it online for all to see".
And the reason you don't see how France is not rife with casual nazis is because every dipshit who tries to pull this is shamed outa town actually.

They came to the internet with a simple dream, a dream of making fun of a murdered teenager because they are racist scumbags...

And this is how it must end?

Who's the real monster here?

If someone posted that Republicans are dimwits on their Facebook page and enough people made a stink they could easily get them fired. Employers don't give two shits about their employees or the reason for terminating them...they simply want to avoid bad publicity.

As an African American (sucks that I have to clarify this) umm... WTF! GAF are you guys serious!

As horrible and tasteless as those costumes are (like when people were doing dead Steve Erwin, doing these "dead people" costumes because they are topical at the time is pretty inconsiderate), I feel a bit uncomfortable with random internet people stalking her and calling her employer... It's not their place to do that.

Agreed. Christ.....

Yep, the Gaf backlash against this seems a little over the top with people here wanting to tear them to bits over a stupid racist act. I'm not defending what they did, they absolutely deserve to be publicly shamed over their idiotic and open racism. That being said, the Trayvon Martin case is still fresh in a lot of people's minds so that's probably why some people are getting a bit too emotional over this.

Not commenting on the reactions but seriously this is not an isolated stupid racist act.
I mean look up this thread a little.
She also posted a thread basically making fun of little black girls and posted a photo of a black homeless just to have her friends call her an ape.
This halloween costumer is sherry on the cake.

I think people who attempt to propagate and normalize racism through public speech acts are fair game for any responsive speech acts and deserve whatever consequences those create for them. It is far worse to allow attempts to normalize racism go unchallenged than that some racists face consequences for their speech. This has more to do with just the costume, but with what appears to be several public attempts to normalize racism by at least a couple of these individuals.

Not only that but I find it a bit ridiculous when people here get upset over this public shaming. Where were they when others on this forum were dragging Trayvon's name through the mud and calling him a thug based on some pictures?

IIRC, others took it a step further and had no problem partially blaming Trayvon for his own death.

Fuck them, just look at some of that other girls posts. They don't give a fuck about people based on skin color, so yeah, I do hope this sticks with them forever. They're old enough to realize what they are doing, and if they think it's oh so funny to make light of someone being murdered based on race, then they're just trash.

I completely agree. People lose perspective so quickly, and fail to understand the vitriol and hate they're spitting is just as damaging and indefensible as the racist bullshit perpetrated by these individuals.

We need to improve discourse, race relations, basic human societal interaction, not get medieval and bloodthirsty and vengeful.

That said, I do believe in redemption based on actions. If these idiots learn the error of their ways and use this experience to help promote equality then I think we should be willing to forgive their past transgressions.

The problem is that the internet is what it is. A snapshot of their lives is now the first thing that Google pops up with you type in their names. They can do a bunch of little, local things to seek redemption and forgiveness that will never be as memetic as this one awful stupid then they did and never live it down.

Of course, that's only a problem if they learn anything from this experience.

Which, presumably, is what we'd want.

We are not going to do that if we don't tell them what is racist and what is not. This trend of demonizing folks that point out shit that is not right is very troubling. GOP loves to say how Obama is stirring the pot when he mentions racism and social injustice. Same thing folks said in the south when people came down to register black people to vote in the 50's.

Get the facts right if you're going to be so judgemental, it was one of the males who posted the 'ape' photo and status.

You're right, tiny pics fooled me on that one.
She's still the one who ragged on the little girl for being black and thought making fun of a dead kid who happens to be black was a hillarious thing.
Point is, she's still a racist PoS who doesn't deserve any sympathy.

You misinterpret me, I'm more concerned with the tactics and the aim of ruining their lives. I would totally support re-education attempts in a myriad of ways, but I don't see the satisfaction in these vigilante social media campaigns. What does it achieve? A whole bunch of pissed off people who need vengeance, humiliated victims and perpetrators, then everyone fucks off until we do it all again, leaving fractured families, people jobless, worsened race relations, and a increasingly tense society. America's outlawed murder for hundreds if years and you still gun each other down like it's a national sport. Seems to me that this vigilante thing doesn't ever achieve anything.
