Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Can someone explain to me what people see in Katamari ?

It feels like smartphone game to me.

To be honest, Katamari is a smartphone game from before smartphone games existed. It's always been pretty light on content but the mechanics were fun/easy.

This used to be an untapped genre.

42... male... old fat pasty white bloke born in UK, London, Indian origin....

Started playing SOTC via remote play... can't believe I left it this long

Say I buy a game from a different region, is it possible to buy the DLC digitally for it if any is released or will it be locked?

28 year old male of Sri Lankan descent, living in NYC. pretty interesting demographics for us Vitacats. the 95% male bit i saw coming, but the higher median age & international breadth is surprising.

i think our age range has something to do with how civil our community is compared to a lot of Gaf gaming threads.

40 year old Canadian, living outside of Toronto.

Feel like now I should be part of a Vita-geezer brigade. :D So many "young 'uns" in here.

I have no idea what's going on in here.

How do I level up spirits in this Destiny of spirits game? All my dudes are level one and I accidentally summoned something rubbish instead of the G rush characters...

From what I understand it, to level up you gotta fuse spirits together. So if there's a spirit you don't want just fuse it with one you want to become stronger and it'll level up.

Bookmark this thread if you plan on using Destiny of Spirits as a time waster. Or collecting the very nice arts LOL.

Battles can give you spirits (5% chance or below, I guess), Summon Orbs, and Spirit Points. Some spirits appears to be Battle/Hunt-exclusive.

The Zone Boss battles makes that boss available in (normal) Summon. It'll still be random and they'll still be hard to get since Zone Boss are usually Rare class.

Ah ok - so they don't gain exp from battles and stuff?

No, but you should use the white stones to summon minnor spirits and merge them to level up your strong spirits. It would be nice that fighting dudes gave you some exp, but it's not the case.

That's what I noticed when playing yesterday as well.
Furthermore HP recovery costs some of your resources, but I don't remember which ones exactly.

It costs 10 destiny (orange) orbs. The ones you can buy with real money.

I usually don't like to share my data, but i'll make an exception for my beloved vitabros, i'm a 32 years old italian human male(i'm actually too much into rpg stuff! XD)

AHA!

Your tongue slipped! There are non-humans out there!

Do you work for the government? Is a home-made Neuralizer possible?

Damn my cover is blown!

i'm just too much into vk3 and its races lol

Is there really only one female VitaGAFer? I never knew that Vitabro was such a literal term.

Wow.

I honestly never thought that we have so many folks in 30 old years range in here :o

It makes sense. The Vita is a little more expensive than the alternatives, and targets people who have the disposable income (in theory) to spend on memory cards and games. (Also, to a lesser extent, it appeals to gamers that don't have familial obligations that prevent them from being relatively hardcore gamers -- though the Vita-parents in this thread show that's less of a concern.) Late 20s/early 30s is the sweetspot for people who have money they can spend on something as frivolous as gaming.

Oh, and 33-year-old white male from Ottawa, Canada.

EDIT: The Entertainment Software Association released their demographics breakdown over the summer, and they claimed that the average gamer age was 30 (or 35, depending on which page you read). So all us 30ish people are right in line with what you'd expect!

very late to the vita speed dating party....

27/m/nyc

owner of a (black friday) white OLED, 32gb card, 100% digital, actively playing hotline miami right now.

No, you won't get that information from me!

So I've been playing Proteus for the last couple of days and it's something that I came into thinking would be a complete waste of time and went away thinking it was kind of awesome. What the hell?

Did anyone play the PC release of this game, I need to talk it through with an adult.

So is anyone getting Proteus? While the concept sounds interesting...I don't see much gameplay coming from what I've read of it, and I can't view videos while at work.

I can't really give a review yet, but what I've played of it is definitely more experiential than you'd imagine. It's a bit impossible to really tell someone WHY Proteus is worth your time and money without having them had already played it, which is of course a catch-22. There's a surprising amount of goal-setting you make for yourself within the game despite there being no real way for you to interact with the game in a direct way and I've ended up putting about 5 hours into it so far.

Also, there's a platinum trophy.

I never played the original PC release, but the Vita doesn't seem like it hampers the experience. In fact, being a more personal type of play, it may enhance the experience.

It would seem that the VitaGaf Group Date Cafe will be a bit of a sausage fest

I am, always in for games that have nice art styles to it, just hoping it isnt too expensive.

Gotta ask, is performance solid? Also, heard it has randomized levels, true?

As far as randomized levels, yep. You can completely randomize the Island you explore OR have it randomized based on your GPS location. I can't really tell the difference between these two options as of yet...

Performance wise... I'm kind of the wrong person to ask. I'm one of those blessed few who don't really notice the difference between 60 fps and 30 fps unless I'm REALLY looking hard. Which I wasn't, because the game isn't dependant on it. I think it performed amazing, but someone else might see a framedrop that I missed.

It important part is the music, which never missed a beat and sounded amazing.

Um no. Katamari Damacy is designed around dual analog control, and is the only proper way to play it. It has no business being called a "smartphone game".

Sweet. Guess this will be the vita's less scarier version LCD. Good soundtracks is a bonus :)
When i meant performance, I mean was the framerate rough or smooth sailing throughout?

Currently in my cart

(1) Dead Nation (already owned it in a another account but thought I'll consolidate)
(2) The Last Guy (already owned it in my Asia PSN account but yea consolidate)
(3) The Walking Dead Season Pass (got it on Steam.. lol)

anything else I should get?
on Vita?

I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed Daxter. Game is pretty fun- the humor more than made it for me (Quark sequences are awesome!). Not a typical Ratchet & Clank game, but closer to the main series (in terms of gameplay) than Daxter is to Jak. Daxter has a plot that is actually relevant to other games in the series though, unlike Secret Agent Clank.

I'd always assumed it was like playing a game comprised of the sections, which is why I completely steered clear and have NO interest in the game. Maybe I'm wrong, but if I'm right... I generally abhor those sections in a R&C game, so it's worth making the assumption to me at this point.

No real interest. Experimental games are not my jam.

"Less scarier"? I'm not following something here...

If you're a US PSN member, are you interested in PSP and PSX games?
