Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

how does Persona 3 Portable compare to Persona 4 Golden? Is the voice-acting as good as in P4G? Is there a big difference in graphics (can't really tell from youtube videos)?

Or should I just wait and hope for a P3 vita remake?

The psp port of Tales of Eternia is not on the store either. Makes me a sad vitabro of the lack of retro Tales games. Just the ps1 rom dumps wuld be gravy to me.

If you haven't played the PS2 version it'll feel very stripped down coming from P4G. Voice acting is just as good/better than P4 but the meat of the game will be the social links and dungeon crawling. Everything in between is really bare and mostly menus in comparison.

That said I wouldn't hold my breath for a P3 remake so you may as well go for it

As someone who went from P4G to P3P, it definitely pales in comparison. P3P takes away the 3D world, and makes it just into a 2D point and click visual novel style game. I feel like it takes away from the storytelling sometimes because there's no character animations, just the stills. You have visualize the scenario yourself because you can't actually see all the characters interacting. Of course there's also the fact that its a PSP game, so everything just looks blurry in general

That said the game is still very much enjoyable. I actually prefer the voice acting so far. The story is definitely not disappointing and the dungeon hunting is relatively unchanged. For those who don't have access to FES like me, its a great alternative. Just don't constantly compare it to P4G while playing :)

I don't understand knocking it for "lack of a 3D world to explore".
I actually found that to be one of the most tedious parts of P4G. Even with fast travel unlocked, having to run to the spot I wanted to get to so I could advance the story or the dialogue was always a chore. I'm rather looking forward to having that stripped down into "point and click".

I agree with you, but I think that's not exactly the problem.

There are some moments in the story where you feel you are missing something. Having only 2D portraits is not that good for inmersion and there are some times when it's especially notorious.

If you're really longing for the dumpster fire that is Legend of Dragoon, you can get it. You just need to shell out for a PS3 and the digital version of the game. ;)

(But yes, they should get ALL PSX games on the store for Vita, period.)

Yea, not really in hurry to buy it even when I have a PS3. It was just one of the missing PSX titles on the PS Vita Store that came to mind.

But, looking it up on google and I'm guessing SCEA won't fix it anytime soon until maybe when PS Vita Tv rolls out here in the west.

You know this is Atlus, and they're releasing a bunch of Persona 3 movies, right?
Unlike other platforms, when it comes to the Vita as long as there's no news/rumor of a particular game it's as good as nonexistent to me no matter how well of a fit it would be or the company's track record. Have to keep my expectations low.

I wasn't particularly knocking it, just commenting on the stripped down nature. Personally I think P3P is the best version of the game because of how quick the cursor based movement/loading was compared to the PS2, along with the new features like femc. It works particularly well for P3P though because I feel like less side events occurred in that game and most of them were in the dorm. If P4 was menu based I would've been a lot more disappointed since overall a lot more interesting events happen in various locations that I would like to see rendered.

That's a good way to put it. Seeing Yosuke crash his bike into a trash can or an exchange between Chie and him as just dots and portraits wouldn't nearly be as interesting.

I did two videos today. OMG HD Zombies and Proteus. OMG is actually broken though, it crashes every 20-30 minutes :(

Could you tell me what you were doing when it crashes? Are there any patterns you are seeing when it crashes? I can't seem to replicate it on a dev unit.

Nice review by the way.

EDIT: I see it crashes on loading a level from your video. Could you do a test for me and try playing the game with an internet connection disabled? We didn't have the issue with the EU game but that was published almost a year ago using a much earlier SDK. Ill try and get a patch addressing this ASAP.

Bought TWD, the game look amazing on the vita screen but has some flaws that have been mentioned before.
1. Loading freezes. these annoy the hell out of me, it's annoying and immersion breaking
2. Controls. either touch or physical. should have been both.

I hope those will get addressed for season two release.

I agree with you. While the ability to run around was nice, I often used the shortcuts instead of walking. Personally, it didn't hurt the presentation much for me in P3P.
The animated cutscenes on the other hand would have really added something to the game. The FES content should have been in the game because it was already released on PS2, I don't think I'll ever play the game again and now I'll miss out on it :/

For The Wolf Among Us they said the following:
Like The Walking Dead on PS Vita, you’ll be able to choose between analog or touchscreen controls, or even switch on the fly if that’s what you like. Great news for those who prefer to play inverted as well: we’ve added an “invert Y” option in The Wolf Among Us, so you’ll feel right at home.

Having played FES before, the only thing I genuinely miss is an animation for the awakening event.

It went from this to... this. It's really underwhelming.

If they made release P3 for PS3/Vita with a mix of Portable/FES contents and using the film cutscenes for the game, I'm going to throw so much money to the screen it will break.

It's weird that I want a remake for a game so bad, but I can't resist :(

tried watching some anime on the vita, dayummm dat oled so vibrant. if only I didn't need to convert the videos every time from mkv to mp4.

Got me a dozen Vita compatible games yesterday, can't wait to get back home and spend an hour just copying them to my Vita lol.

Man vk3 story bosses are becoming really hard!
They were already hard when the fight was 7 vs 7, now the game wants me to beat consecutively a first fight against 7 strong stooges and if i'm able to win what remains of my party has to fight against the even stronger boss + 6 stooges without a pause between the two fights to heal, revive or everything else.
I need to grind a lot this time.

why not Final Fantasy IX, the greatest psx jrpg of them all?
It's really not. Story-wise, it's mostly copies what was already done in FFVII, the gameplay is horribly slow (making it the least enjoyable PS1 FF to actually play) and, well, while the world itself has a lot of charm, they really botched the character designs for the game (not that the chibi-style isn't without its charm, but it's not always a very successful one, Zidane, Steiner, Quina & Eiko being the worst offenders, Vivi, Freya, Beatrix & Amarant look cool, though).

wait, its possible to stream mkvs from my pc to my vita?? how do I do this?
Been wanting to do this for ages, Vita's OLED > Ipad 2 for watching anime in bed =D

My guess would be from the pc content manager, using wifi connection. You can transfer gamedata/saves and photos this way, as well as streaming music. I haven't tested with video files yet, but it should work the same way.

Ok, guys. I cannot resist. I'm going to deposit some money in my credit card and buy Dragon's Crown. A part of me feels like buying Muramasa, but I want to taste DC multiplayer before it becomes a barren xD.

If I remember correctly it doesn't work with mkv files unless you convert beforehand. I was wondering if someone had gotten vita to work with something like ps3 media server.

i guess you could use remote play on your vita to connect your ps3 which is networked with your pc, haven't tried it but seems like the way to go if you want to use ps3 media server.

I think I encountered a couple of loading level crashes while playing the EU version. Sent at least one crash report to Sony and I've always been curious what exactly that does. Do you guys get some kind of crash report from Sony?

It's fucking great and I haven't even touched the multiplayer yet.

Yeah I'm really disappointed by this port.

Started playing yesterday, and there's a significant pause or stutter before every decision or action that you make. Fucking horrible.

Aside from that, it looks fine, but that to me is a huge issue. Pretty bummed about this, tbh.

Got FIFA football for about 3 quid the other day at shopto, plays really well. Just needs stats updated, not sure how yet but upped Sturridge straight away. :) I assume there is a way to update squads, want to play as the current Liverpool team. Will look into it when I get the chance.

Finished Limbo, glad I waited for the pan price drop. Good game but waaay too short, and not as fundamental as I had been led to believe.

Still playing Persona 4 but it's slow going as you can't really just pick up and play. Only just got my moped. Hope you can get a bike, mopeds are lame.

Need to get Dragons Crown still, waiting on deals though. Need to finish what I have anyway, too much and PS plus makes it nigh impossible.

I bought both and enjoy DC far more! the leveling and looting aspects in DC are very good and give the game a nice rpg-feel, while leveling and unlocking new blades in muramasa just feels like the rpg-elements of modern FPS (not really necessary, just thrown in for the sake of it)

I've put 35hours into DC and just leveled my fighter (lvl 92), never touched any other class.
finished the whole of muramasa in 20 hours. so, yeah.

if you're looking for someone to play with you can hit me up (PSN: Deep_Chord). I want to start a new class soon anyway!
