Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Everyone/thing looks better in the 3DS game IMO.

EDIT: Don't start with polygon counts / texture resolution, I mean artistically.

I think it's because the 3DS game is taking a different direction, whereas the Wii U game just looks like Brawl in HD with some nicer details.

Again, they have time to fix it up.

Anyone expect we'll get some Halloween stuff tomorrow?

BAYONETTA as a playable character confirmed!

I think people think the 3DS one looks better because the shots are more often zoomed out so you don't see little shitty things like foxes teeth. In reality they're basically the same models with the same artistic direction.

If Rocksteady actually goes through with a Silver Age game I would be amazed. Its not exactly often that a studio known for making the dark gritty stuff turns around & makes something lighter & goofier.

But Arkham Beyond would be the way to go.

EDIT: Wrong Thread, oops.

Sakurai's been showing two 3DS pics a week now, not bad. Hopefully we'll get something more interesting with this version sooner than later.

Also the amount of detail for this version is astounding to me.

I am the exact opposite. With every 3DS screen released, the less inclined I feel to buy a Wii U to play its version of the game. The 3DS version looks amazing imo.

That's what I'm feeling.

I could go and grab a Wii U if I wanted, but with the mass lack of games I want, coupled with a crippling chance of a future, I see no reason.

If Smash was Wii U exclusive, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but Smash 3DS looks soooo good, so now I see no reason to get a Wii U.

But yeah, each to their own. I'm glad they're showing more 3DS shots.

3DS Smashers made me regretting for supporting 3DS version. Obviously I noticed that almost all of Wii U buyers are getting 3DS version, but it was opposite with 3DS fanbases.

I found it hilarious how people labelling SSB Wii U as Brawl HD, when it's very obvious that 3DS is Brawl with outlines.

I usually don't get multiple versions of a game, but I can make an exception here. Smash looks phenomenal on both platforms.

I don't think that is a correct observation. There were many people who were saying they should cancel the 3DS version. It was pretty stupid.

I just don't want to see these "platform wars" or whatever.

I think the second statement is true, but I'm OK with that.

Exactly.

But, it does look like Brawl HD.

The 3DS game has less detail than Brawl, though it does look pretty similar. The point is that they're not really pushing the Wii U as far as they could.

uug just imagining playing smash on 3DS with that slide pad is a turn off but the game does look good for a 3DS game
obvious which version will be the inferior

and another thing, I hope smash has off tv play :3 I love playing fighting games from wii on the gamepad, thanks nintendo ^^

Smash 4

Yeah, exactly the same, not an exaggeration at all

Rewatching that video, Megaman's Up Smash (?) looks super OP. It does like 45 damage! My biggest fear is comboing will going to be limited because of a general abundance of knockback. Megaman rockets off the side of the screen from the middle of battlefield at less than 90%.

Also, this has to be a recorded video with prewritten script for announcer.

Yeah, both version look great. Both are Day 1 for me.

Exactly.

Yeah, I hate platform wars most of time. It caused nothing but problems and biased opinions. Also they shouldn't cancel any version because people want it to happens. If they did then it would be waste of their times and sources.

But, it does look like Brawl HD.

Yeah, but my point is that people are being hyperbole with the versions. Both version look great on their own.

Yep, this exactly. I am actually happy there is a 3DS version. Now I don't have to spend money on a Wii U for two or three games, at most.

Well, I never said anything about SSB for Wii U being Brawl HD. I think it looks amazing and miles better than Brawl. I don't see how SSB for 3DS is Brawl with outlines either.

While ultimately I am probably going to get both 3DS and Wii U versions of the game, my problem with playing it on 3DS is that the experience is going to feel completely different. In a bad way. I don't mean it will play poorly, but Smash Bros. for me has always been about getting together with a bunch of friends and duking it out for hours. The atmosphere just isn't the same when you're all looking at your own screens, and there's not even any guarantee we'll have enough 3DS systems to go around. And this is assuming the game even has a Download Play feature (I'm sure it will, though). The 3DS game will be fun online, but locally? It'll be a mere shadow of its brother. It surprises me some longtime Smash fans are so accepting of the proposition of going exclusively 3DS, when the heart and soul of the past three games will arguably be lost in doing so. By all accounts, it will be a great supplement to Smash 4 Wii U. But an alternative? Impossible.

Well, they made it that you can't reuse it often as you would like to. I'm definitely not aware of 45% damages.

SSB4 is going to make me poor.

Both base games and 2 WiiU Pro Controllers for me. There go another 200€...

I already have Wii U Pro Controllers ready since Best Buy sold those at clearance discounts.

It's hyperbole.

Not for everyone, I guarantee you. I mostly play my games solo (unless it has co-op. Co-op is fun, but I am not really a fan of versus), regardless of the genre and the Super Smash Bros series isn't an exception. I'd say the "heart and the soul of the past three games" is very subjective and personal. So, in the end, the 3DS version is perfect for me and yes, it will be great as an alternative and not just a supplement.

I respect that opinion too, of course. It just surprises me is all. Some of my best memories growing up involve playing Smash Bros. all night long with a bunch of friends together in a leisure room or basement. When there were more than four of us, we'd pass the controllers around and spectate and cheer while not playing. How do you even do this on 3DS?

I imagine that's the case for the majority of people who played the series over the years, so throwing that experience out the window in one fell swoop is a little... strange.

3DS version will be inevitably held back by screen size (and/or resolution in case you'll play on a XL). I came to this point playing Kid Icarus: amazing game, but not too fitted to a portable. Look at that last WFTrainer screen of the other day, when screen starts zooming out you lose any detail and graphics get poor.

Someone playing Smash mostly for single player is... odd to me, I gotta say.

But I'm the guy buying a 3DS JUST to have both versions, so whatever.

The 3DS models are almost identical to Brawl's models, both artistically and technically.
It looks way more like Brawl than the Wii U version does.

Me too. And for the supposed connectivity between WiiU and 3DS version.
I don't think that feature will make the cut :/

The game looks nice on both systems, especially if the Wii U version holds up the supposed 1080p/60fps (the 60fps is top priority to me, 1080p is icing on the cake).

I've ended up playing Smash mostly for single player. Only have one other friend who plays it and now that we're older we're unlikely to meet up just to play a videogame.

I'll be getting both, though I'll probably play WiiU more just because of more controller options. Definitely need a grip or I'll get crab claw from the OG 3DS. 3DS will make for a good alternative for on-the-go though.
