This sums up my feelings on the matter.

It can't play cds either, right?[/B] (or was that the xbone)
I remember that thread 'lol who uses cds now all my music is digital now', the irony in hindsight:p

anyhow, wow, so fucking stupid

leme guess there is also no mkv or mp4 support , and there will still be no option to play subtitle files for your rips.

Need confirmation on this!

No MP3s...I don't really care about that, though it is dumb to at least not have that added for free in a firmware update. Everything plays MP3s, including the previous HW from the same company, so no reason to not have that (at least for bullet point purposes).

No media streaming though? That is ridiculous. The best thing about the PS3 for me was the fact that it was AMAZING as a media streaming box. I plugged an HDD into the thing, ran PS3 Media Server on my computer, and it was better than any Roku ever made IMHO. Why nerf that? That's a big deal, at least to me. They better make sure free firmware adds that back quickly.

PS4 is being rushed out the door that much is obvious now. Adding mp3 playback is trivial.

Rush?

Even if we gave them 4 extra months MP3 would probably not be supported, fucking Music Unlimited.

The lack of DLNA is also a punch to the balls, all it had to do was have the same base functionality as the PS3. :|

I am confused, when Xbone came out and said they were doing everything exceptcuring cancer people complained. PS4 comes out and says we are doing games and everything else is a distant second people are complaining.

I didn't realize this affected so many people. I just use bluetooth from my sound bar to play music from my phone.

Man I fucking LOVE swapping out background music for my own.

I've been doing it since they added it in Project Gotham Racing back on the original Xbox. Being able to play your own music in racing games upgrades the experience in every way. Doing it through the console also meant you didn't lose access to the in-game sound effects; only the music would be different.

It was my shit for Geometry Wars, WipeOut, Forza X, DoA 4/5, CoD MP, Gears MP, and a number of others. Some of my best memories this generation were kicking people's asses in DoA to James Brown's Big Payback, or flying down a WipeOut track listening to D'Angelo's Crusin'.

If anything, I expected these kinds of features to be more prevalent and integrated across more titles. Not this bullshit.

Need confirmation on this!

it's true.

For people like me that live non major regions\ countries it's one of the biggest Fuck you you can do .
Even if i wanted to pay i can't cause it not support where i am .
Well i guess Sony will just lose sales from me and my friends .

I do hope it means MU rolls out in more countries.

Or we need Mort to get a Twitter campaign rolling!

No one is going to be dumb enough to buy a Music Unlimited sub.

well it's challenging spotify. it works across multiple devices and not just the ps4. there's an app for it? and music unlimited is available in more countries than spotify. so there's that.

sony music unlimited

platforms: mac, pc, ios, android, ps3, psp, ps vita, compatible blu-ray players and tvs

there's google play, napster, etc.

I know this really sucks for, like, 99% of people who are buying a PS4, but, I use Music Unlimited every day at work, and, I think it's a pretty great service.

Is there some kind of trial for new owners? I mean, I know no one would like *any* paid service as much as they would like being able to stream the music they already own, but, it's a decent service with a ton of songs on there.

This is pretty much the shill-iest thing I've ever posted, but, I don't know. Maybe people will like it after trying it?

It says the following in the "PS4: The Ultimate FAQ"
Can I listen to audio CDs using PS4?

No, PS4 does not support audio CDs.

Seriously ? Xbox One doesn't even support Microsoft standard for Media Server ? I could understand other protocols and standards, but don' t support even Microsoft' s protocol for media server is ridiculous for the device that should be the center of my living room.
Who cares for "Windows Media Extender" compatibility? DLNA is more wide spread.

It's a shame Sony are saying their Music streaming service is the only way to play music. I think them patching in a Spotify app would go a long way to appeasing many.

I don't have a preorder to cancel, but I keep finding it easier and easier to wait out this upcoming gen. No mp3 support is ridiculous.

The worst part about it is I only game on Playstation (and Nintendo) systems, so its all or nothing for me; if I don't pick up a PS4, I won't be gaming next gen, I'll just increase my backlog. Patch it in, Sony. Its nearly fundamental at this point.

Next up: doesn't play blu-ray movies.

Jokes aside, the PS4 doesn't play blu-ray or dvd movies right out the box, that requires a day 1 patch/download or something which was already covered in various threads.

I think I'll just do iOS/PC/3DS this generation and all the other old games that I have.

Goodness people.....this is not something we are just learning. This was confirmed like at least a month or two ago.

Goodness, it's something a lot of us just found out.

I can't wait to get MLB The Show, but not looking forward to being stuck with the default soundtrack or silence.

This guy needs help.

That about embodies some of peoples reactions here except they aren't full on stupid like this guy.

Something like PS4 is about games first. I don't remember the last time I was ever excited for a new console to play music on.

This is really stupid. Look like Sony is trying to hard to push their Music Unlimited. While it's a great service, forcing it to be the only way to play music on PS4 is just dumb.

It's not just that it doesn't work right now, but the complete lack of "In the future" for ANY features is actually a bit weird.

Anybody else notice that? Nothing in the FAQ said anything about future features in system software updates.

Even the big one we know might be coming:
No, PS4 does not feature backward compatibility for PS3, PS2, or PSone games.

I suspect Sony did a lot of fucked up careful legalization of this document to please shareholders.

Given a few months, maybe those missing things will return in a "Oh well, we tried to get them to sign up", but I'm not sure.

Given how everything is app-driven now, I bet what we want needs to be done by apps, and can't be done straight in the UI, the PDB. (Is that what we call it?)

Remember, the Vita has to open the music app to play mp3s, too.

Appletv has no storage, so all media must be streamed, and you can do it from any computer.
right but he said that the device had apps. They could support spotify streaming and pandora if they wanted to. Luckily I just use airplay from my idevice or my mbp.

I'm already subscribed to Music Unlimited (they do MU deals for PS+ members frequently. Last year, got a year subscription for $12.), but it's ridiculous that there's no music support for anyone who isn't.

Huh. Well, I'll have a couple Vita TVs, so I'm not too worried about living room audio, but it's a strange omission.

I have to admit, I only listened to music on my PS3 a grand total of about two times but Sony should change this.

No loss to me at all though.

I play music on my phone and bluetooth it to speakers. Much easier.
