Isn't Xbox Music just the name of the audio player app? Where does it say you need an Unlimited Pass to play your own MP3s?
Wait, WHAT?
No MP3 support?

My Sony Blu-Ray player plays MP3s, MP4s, MPEGs, AVIs, MTS, etc.... straight off data discs and USB drives.
The PS4 can't do this? Who in the bloody hell thought that was a good idea?
Something they've locked down and are now monetizing is something we should expect a firmware update to open up?
Have Sony given any reason whatsoever to expect these features to be patched in at a later date?
Crisis averted if they say its coming.Of course it's not ready. It won't stop people from over reacting though.
Fuck, an online game with no music is one of THE times I most seriously consider playing music. Well, wouldn't be that music though. Is it really that important to people to be listening to their linkin park while pwning some righteous noobs in call of dooty?
People were expecting 12.5mm drives instead of 9mm. It isn't really a problem, just that people expected different.whats the problem? 9.5mm is what you want... no larger 2.5" drives exist except for enterprise storage... 9.5mm gets you 1.5 TB via Hitachi drive for $120 or so.
PS3 was 7mm if I remember correctly?
Probably a little bit cheaper than a Sata III port.ok so most drives will fit? Why SATA II though. Weak.
Sorry, but I can't think of any camera that shoot in .MKV. And as 99.9% of the .MKV files is pirated I wouldn't hold my hopes up for the official MKV support. My mom's fucking tv can play mkvs...
It's such a stupid thing to leave out.
ok so most drives will fit? Why SATA II though. Weak.
Hope that is the case, maybe someone here knows.Oh. Dlna didn't launch with ps3 either? Maybe it's just not ready.
If they say it will be added, like the other features they mentioned that are coming after launch there would be less 'overreacting'Of course it's not ready. It won't stop people from over reacting though.
These consoles will have features added and fine tuned through their whole life. People need to realize the complexities of launching new systems and certain priorities coming first.
Music i can understand but no DLNA is definatley a loss. I used it on my PS3 to view family vids and pics i had on my home server from our trips during the holidays.
Umm a console can't play MP3 or basically any file based media despite the fact everything and their mother can play MP3's and precisely why can't it? It's because they want you to buy an entirely separate subscription. Regardless how you look at it this is some Grade A bullshit, if no one complains this, this shit will remain so telling everyone to calm down isn't helping things.
Were you telling people to calm down when the DRM fiasco hit? Probably not, just because it doesn't matter to you doesn't mean it doesn't matter to others.
Crisis averted if they say its coming.
Otherwise I see a subscription service being peddled as writing on the wall that it just isn't going to happen.
I seriously wonder how many people actually used MP3s as background music while playing a game.
Did anyone tweet yosp about this fiasco?
I have no idea how people play racing, sports or competitive shooters without custom soundtracks.
This is complete bullshit.
Of course it's not ready. It won't stop people from over reacting though.

This also stood out to me:
Are users able to record, distribute or stream any gameplay video?
No. Users may not be able to record certain areas within the game. Developers can select the area of restriction, and what will be restricted will depend on game titles. In these cases, recording will be temporarily suspended during the scene.
DRM was a much bigger can than this.
You and I will live and breath another day. Take a deep breath. It's BS but some of us handle it differently now don't we?
Like having their music streaming service available before the console is able to play an MP3 file?
The Wii didn't have a music subscription service thought did it?Disgusting if true.
The fucking Wii supported mp3

Not really because of this announcement, but I always wondered: some people seriously hear music when using their videogame? Why? And when? Serious question... like, that doesn't make any sense to me. You are either browsing the store or playing games, or searching for something in the main menu (that usually doesn't take much time). How do you find time to listen to music is beyond me. I never understood the reason to add this Music Unlimited or whatever in the first place.
Also whats DLNA?
Did anyone tweet yosp about this fiasco?
@yosp Please Yoshida San do what is possible to revert the no mp3/no DLNA media stream on the PS4. That's absurd in a 2013 connected device
this is own thread worthy. This basically means, they can disable the feature during any cut scenes.
Seems like my hunch was right and external hardware won't be obsolete at all.
MS can always patch out the Gold requirement for Netflix and IE apps, and they're stupid not to, but that's the way they want to play it.It's software functionality, so it CAN be added. They'd be stupid not to, but they need to know that we want this.
why not tweet him yourself? @yosp
Podcasts.I seriously wonder how many people actually used MP3s as background music while playing a game.
The fact you can't play PS3 games on it should've been the biggest, most obvious reason you can't replace a PS3 with a PS4.So I can't replace my PS3 with a PS4?
Okay, no problem, Sony, I won't.
I don't really use my consoles for music. I've got a smartphone for that.
why not tweet him yourself? @yosp

Well, hopefully Yoshida or someone will come right out and respond to these complaints by saying "MP3s will be playable in the future with a firmware update. Not ready for launch" or something.
It will walk a lot of people away from the ledge, I think.
It's very, very far from a deal breaker for me, but I was really looking forward to listening to my own music with Driveclub or KZ MP, for example. Like I said in my last post, I guess I'll just have to dust off the ole' laptop.
Oh. Dlna didn't launch with ps3 either? Maybe it's just not ready.
I love when Brad trolls the core, though. So many childish tweet responses.

Some people might want to use their consoles to listen to music while doing a host of non-game related activities such as socialising, chilling, having sex etc.
Nothing like playing a little Gran Turismo while holding a phone up to my head.
DRM was a much bigger can than this.
