My Sony Blu-Ray player plays MP3s, MP4s, MPEGs, AVIs, MTS, etc.... straight off data discs and USB drives.
The PS4 can't do this? Who in the bloody hell thought that was a good idea?

Fuck, an online game with no music is one of THE times I most seriously consider playing music. Well, wouldn't be that music though.
I never used the feature, but the fact it's not there and what IS there instead is just shitty period. What if I want something that isn't provided by them? Nevermind the idea in general of killing/failing to implement a feature in favor of the paid alternative. Though I guess maybe there's some patent BS that could've gotten in the way.

People were expecting 12.5mm drives instead of 9mm. It isn't really a problem, just that people expected different.

Sorry, but I can't think of any camera that shoot in .MKV. And as 99.9% of the .MKV files is pirated I wouldn't hold my hopes up for the official MKV support.
I'd be more upset that it's a 5400rpm drive than SATA II.

Ditto. Download a show and stream it right off my pc through the PS3 right onto my home theatre system.
I guess I can move to usb drives, but it's an extra step that seems unnecessary considering where we are right now.

this is own thread worthy. This basically means, they can disable the feature during any cut scenes.

It will walk a lot of people away from the ledge, I think.
It's very, very far from a deal breaker for me, but I was really looking forward to listening to my own music with Driveclub or KZ MP, for example. Like I said in my last post, I guess I'll just have to dust off the ole' laptop.
Some people might want to use their consoles to listen to music while doing a host of non-game related activities such as socialising, chilling, having sex etc.

MS can always patch out the Gold requirement for Netflix and IE apps, and they're stupid not to, but that's the way they want to play it.

The fact you can't play PS3 games on it should've been the biggest, most obvious reason you can't replace a PS3 with a PS4.

Why shouldnt people expect functionality that was added during last gen to work on the new console? Certain things missing are more understandable than others, like BC, but wouldnt people be mad if Party chat wasn't working at launch even though it wasn't a feature when the Xbox 360 launched?

Sony's priorities are not your priorities. It isn't that they couldnt easily get MP3 support and DLNA working, it's just that they prioritized getting pay-to-play equivalents working first.

Indeed but telling people to calm down isn't helping things. Worst case scenario Sony doesn't change anything best case scenario Sony changes promptly if people don't do anything the Sony probably won't do anything either way. unless it was simply a delay.
Either way complaining doesn't harm things but it can improve things telling people do calm down does nothing.
