Feel better after reading Kagari's post. I ultimately only want one box hooked up that can do most of the important features my PS3 did.

Yeah, I really doubt either company would just get rid of DLNA or some kind of pc->console streaming solution. I definitely am not surprised that one or both won't have solutions ready for launch.

Not playing local MP3 just seems weird. It kind of ruins my plan to have an external harddrive and leave my console up at the cabin this Christmas. We don't have PCs there, so DLNA is useless. I was hoping we could use my music and movie library on the console for our nightly movie watching/board-game drinking time!

You mean like they still currently allow on the 360 with Media Center Extender? See the difference here is that Sony has a music "pandora-competition" service they're pushing and Microsoft doesn't. It seems like they're trying to push people to use their music and video services by limiting other options, which is bullshit.

Compete by COMPETING, not by locking out the player from other services or capabilities.

Whats bothering me is the language used. Like they are not going to patch it in at all. Some things they are specific with saying that it will be patched at at later date othrrs not. The things that are not are the ones I am most most concerned about. No media server??? I use this all the time. While I am not canceling any preorder it just seems ass backwards. But when every single device these days is capable of playing mp3 it seems very strange for Sony to exclude that feature.

With what? Headphones or the phone speaker? That doesn't seem workable to me. The best you could hope for is to plug your iPhone into a receiver but then you are getting audio through a 3.5mm headphone jack which is pretty awful.

Really? So I in order to play my ps4 with music I'll need to have my laptop plugged in? Or my Ipod charged? That means wherever it goes, those devices follow? I can't just have it playing right out of my tv on an all in one? Not everyone has these devices at their disposal btw.

And I think Kagari's right, looking at the types of things getting finalized fast all at the same time in the first update, I'm hoping it's just priority during the launch crunches, they really should have said "not at this time" or just say "coming later" rather than "no" to avoid headache. DLNA and video playback is more important for me than direct mp3 but they really should both be there.
