We'll at least we know SNE is listening. Time to wait and see if they actually choose to act.

Did NOT think he would follow up so fast. Great initiative, and makes me feel a little more hopeful.

Well this is unfortunate. I have a Christmas playlist on my PS3 made up of songs from various CDs I have that I use during the holidays and it has been wonderful. Am I to assume that I cannot do this on my PS4 then? And I can't plug my external HDD with hundreds of movies on it to my PS4 either?? I would have thought this would be extremely basic functionality at this point. Very disappointing. Good thing I still have my PS3. And good thing I can still buy a PS2 to play all of those games. At this rate I will ALWAYS have ALL of Sony's systems in my household ALL the time just to do everything I want. All-in-one is starting to make more sense now (not that I ever would). :-\

This is my big question as well, but the FAQ just says you can't use an externall HDD to increase the PS4's storage - i.e. you can't use it to install games or downloaded-via-PS4 content onto.

Does this mean the PS4 can't read USB sticks? Seems kinda weird that you'd need to included two USB3 ports just for charging and maybe one other peripheral like a steering wheel or headset - I would imagine the price differential between using USB2 and 3 over millions of units would be pretty substantial.

You mean like the "Sony's going to have DRM too! It's just common sense!" posts from earlier this year? So you're bullshitting and trying to push it. And my god, stop projecting that inane "You think Sony is your buddy?" shit, you look more like an anti-Sony fanboy than I do a Sony fanboy.

music unlimited is announced unlike drm. people were hoping drm wouldnt be announced and it didnt.

this is set in stone. its not going anywhere.
you should probably stop with the passive agressive crap in your posts. makes you look like a child.

Well the people who like those features will buy PS3s...I've heard something like that somewhere before.

yeah, or the over 70 million users who already have a PS3 (myself included). The thing is a lot of folks traded in their PS3s for a PS4. Folks are upset they'll be losing a well loved feature. Sony understands this...at least now they do due to the backlash about their handling of Music Unlimited for PS4 users.

You acting like you just KNOW it's all set in stone and telling other people they're stupid for thinking otherwise is more childish than anything I've posted. I'm not being passive aggressive, I'm being aggressive. Hell no am I going to just leave it when someone starts telling me "Sony's going to do this and I know because I know because common sense because, because. I'm right you're wrong so nya" like you're doing. Accept that we both believe differently and stop with the annoying badgering.

That doesn't really show any progress on the matter.
At least he didn't say "If you really want to play MP3 files, we have a product that does that, it's called PS3."

Public sentiment reaching the top levels of management, who, the next day, brings it up with their developers themselves isn't progress?

They'll wind up adding these in at a later firmware update.

They'll placate the suits @ Sony that want to push MU, and they'll come out as "a company that listens to the gamers" as well.

i think this isn't really much progress, or nothing worth sharing, rather should kept for themselves. on the other hand, the rage would have been bigger.

ok

This should be added to the op and the thread title updated.

title is updated already. dont see how that tweet is important though but ill add it in a second.

Ah, ok. That makes sense. I feel I may have seen someone's quote about it out of context. I can understand not being able to install games on external USB drives for a lot of reasons. I wouldn't understand if I can't watch all of my movies though. Still, if it will play movies why not play bloody mp3s???

Not giving people a choice is just nonsense. What stops them from giving people the option to stream through MU, but also from local mp3 files?

That doesn't mean the issue has actually changed however, The FAQ is the same and he hasn't explicitly stated anything otherwise.

The movies thing would piss me off - not cancel pre-order piss me off, but still be bloody annoying that I'll need to find some shelf space for the old 3 as well.

Also - I, bizarrely, keep a lot of photos on my PS3, so I'd be a little bit miffed if I couldn't do the same on PS4.

From such a big company that usually don't turn around that fast, it hasn't even been 24 hours since he acknowledged the issue and then came around with a follow-up. Call me an optimist but I think it bodes well that it'll be patched in at some point after launch and probably not too far down the road I would guess.

Jesus what a PR disaster that whole blog post is!! I honestly can't believe someone in management looked at the wording of that and thought it would play well with people. FU Sony!!!!

Yeah, it's a terrible move in light of the backlash, but to be fair the backlash just started less than a day ago.

It actually says that "now you can play your music"!

Offensive, isn't it?

The FAQ says you can't play MP3s on the PS4, do you want it to magically play them without a future Firmware patch? What are you expecting?

Isn't that encompassed with yosp replies, The issue of PS3 not playing MP3 hasn't changed and titles aren't allowed to particularly long so it seems unneeded.

PS3 plays them just fine.

maybe im reaching a bit but it was pretty smart to announce it at this time

cant play mp3, no dlna, no uploads to youtube at launch, no external hdd support, cant change psn names. people wont cancel pre orders 3 weeks before the system launches.

to be fair they are being honest with all this. better than sweeping it under the rug.

It's still early. The ball just got rolling. Given Sony's track record through the years, this shows they're planning on adding back those features.

PS3 plays them just fine.

That it will be patched in at a later date durr. Otherwise people will assume it may NEVER come.

Otherwise we're in the same situation as before not knowing what the MP3 scenario for the PS4 is well we do but it's terrible.

BTW, in the euro blog, they now added this to the FAQ:

Will I be able to play MP3s on the PS4 system?
No.
*We appreciate your feedback and are exploring possibilities

[...]

Will the PS4 system support media servers or DLNA support in order to stream videos or movies from a home PC?
The PS4 system does not support client functionality for media servers.
*We appreciate your feedback and are exploring possibilities

Some people have pointed out that Sony didn't have the time or didn't want to put effort to push these features at launch to focus on games and a working OS, but Sony did have enough time and interest in putting MU at launch.

Wow, that was fast.

It's a stupid thing, but I'll give a small clap towards the swift and immediate reaction to the whole thing. Companies can tend to be sluggish and stupid when it comes to these 'official' things.
