Rumor: Nexus 5 to launch at $299(16GB), $399(32GB, 2300mAh battery)

Personally I'm really hoping for some concrete data on the Nexus 10-2 soon. The leak earlier this week would indicate we're going to be hearing something in the coming days or weeks.

People keep saying 8:00am pst, so 1.5 hours time

If it's launching today, 4.4 should be rolling out to existing Nexus devices over the next week, correct?

That's pretty typical, and given the rumors from awhile back of 4.4 launching on the 31st it's a safe bet, unless by 4.4 launching they meant "launching on the Nexus 5."

So there's pretty much no chance that this is accompanied by a rollout of google play's devices shop to more regions right? If it's anything like nexus 4 it'll be quite a hassle to import one into Ireland, even though all the UK ones ship from here.

I thought about white for about five minutes until I saw that picture of the Nexus tablet that was downright filthy lookin' from the color wearing off.

If is the same material as the Nexus 7 (2013) it will pick up a lot of lint.

Ouch, that's doubly not good for me then. I don't use a case/screen protector, and just carry my phone around in one of those Nintendo Club cloth baggies lol.

Works though, GN is still pristine.

Black is best. It'll probably get covered with a case anyways so I'll go black just for a better resale value. (I imagine there's more used demand for black than white)

Man, I don't know...on the one hand it'd be nice to own a smartphone, and I might be able to get the unlimited talk/text/data from Sprint on a discount.

On the other hand, I don't really use my phone for much talking or texting as it is. Not really for internet, either, though that's most because it sucks at it. If I sign up for Sprint, I'd probably be paying $60 more a month than what I'm paying now.

Hmm...

If you're no longer under contract sign up for the Tmobile $30 plan: 100 minutes, unlimited text, 5gb of data.

[We’re pretty sure that today is finally the day. At some point, Google should announce the Nexus 5 and tell us the dirty details on Android 4.4 “Kit Kat,” which hopefully also means we’ll either by able to buy the device or at least pre-order for a release within the next week. But as we wait for all things to become official, we have one last major leak to talk about. Thanks to a throwaway account over at reddit by the name throwawaynexus5guy, we get a set of better quality pictures of the phone, a screen showing an update to Android 4.4.1, and a Q&A session which gives us a few new details to look forward to learning more about.

As far as the pictures go, we aren’t necessarily seeing anything new in terms of hardware, however, you can see that the camera housing does indeed stick out a bit from the phone’s body. There doesn’t appear to be anything else on the phone’s back that could protect that, so it’s something we’ll all need to be careful of once the phone is in hand. Hopefully, Google and LG made that housing rock solid.

The only other thing we can really take from the pics, like I previously mentioned, is that an update may be waiting for us out of the box. The redditor who posted these images said that the 139.3MB update that can be seen downloading is an update to Android 4.4.1. He said that the update didn’t appear to introduce any radical changes, which seems odd looking at the size of the update.

Now, about that Q&A:

When asked if the phone would have always-on-always-listening features like the Moto X’s Touchless Control, he smiled. In other words, you may be able to talk to your Nexus 5 and perform actions just like Moto X owners do.
He mentioned that one of the big new features he noticed was a “complete backup solution” that could save “apps data, saved games, settings for each app, etc.”
He said that the phone “doesn’t feel cheap like a Samsung device,” “feels great in the hand” and is “similar to holding a G2.”
He thought that after updating to 4.4.1, that he was prompted with a Google Drive offer that could have been around 100GB of storage.
As far as the camera goes, he didn’t test it, but was told that it’s an improvement over the Nexus 4, but not on the level of the Galaxy S4 or iPhone.
The display is apparently “great” for the price.
The speakers sounded great, not “tinny” or weak.
He also said he was 99% certain we should see the phone unveiling today.

If you're no longer under contract sign up for the Tmobile $30 plan: 100 minutes, unlimited text, 5gb of data.

Unfortunately TMobile stopped that plan. The only plans available from them directly recently became pricier. Makes me sad because I was planning to switch this winter. Now the cheapest is $50 for talk and data (500MB lol). No longer can you buy a phone anywhere and sign up for their $30 plan. Pricing getting closer to the ridiculous Verizon/ATT levels.

That $30 plan can only be had at Wal-Mart with a phone bought at Wal-Mart. And the choices are limited.

Well I mostly use it to listen to podcasts and it really is poor.

I'm not liking the look of the camera sticking out. It's going to scratched up in no time.

Virtually all available cases have little nubs that'll let the phone sit flat on either side and also keep the camera from scratchin'.

The plan is down towards the bottom on the left. They purposely make it difficult to find. You can buy a Tmobile sim and activate online (in store reps won't activate for you - I've tried).

I don't think this is true...

I take it back. Just finished chatting with them. Their website is poorly worded and organized. The $30 prepaid option is indeed alive. You just have to dig for it, contact customer service directly. So now I'm interested in this Nexus 5.

So will I be able to walk into an approved carrier today/tomorrow and buy it, or can I only order online and hope to get it by next week? Seems stupid to release a product like this on the weekend.

Nobody knows if carriers are selling it. Only the Play Store.
