XBL: 48m users. Halo contunues in 2014...

So this just popped up in my inbox....

48m users is impressive, but no doubt they've lumped both sliver and gold into one group...would love to know just how many gold members they currently have...

So Steam has more members... I honestly thought Xbox Live was ahead.

You don't pay to access steam. Also I got that email and thought about how I'm so on fence between both systems. I might just wait 6 months and figure out which more of my friends buy.

Halo multiplayer continues
to die
in 2014.

You don't pay for silver either, as the OP says they could both be lumped together

These are XBL members, not XBL Gold members. In essence, a pretty meaningless number.

They definitely don't have 48 mil Gold subs. That count includes free users.

And the count would also include some Android, iOS and Windows 8 users... since certain games on those platforms require an Xbox account.

Halo is fun, I get that.

But the raging hardons people have for that helmet, I don't get that.

Wasn't Halo 4 a bit of a step back from 3? I thought it was. It's getting to the point where I'm not sure what they could do different that shouldn't be DLC.

Imagine that 48 million people see Xbox One ads every time they see the dashboard. Makes you wonder how that visibility is going to play come November.

Have you seen halo 3's?

The pop in halo 4 has certainly declined...consider halo 4 a test run. Halo will be alive and well come this time next year.

Halo 3 is like 6 years old and has bad netcode, what's your point? Halo will only be alive and well next year if they bring back the classic Halo gameplay people actually like.

Last time they said it explicitly, it was something like 17 millions of Gold subscribers few months ago.
I'm not sure if we should expect to see that number bigger or smaller today.

You know Bungie left Halo, right? I'm sad about it too. I know some of the guys stuck around at 343 but as a whole it's a different group of people making that game. That classic experience is gone.

While i do still enjoy Halo, i've not really got much hope for the next game. 343 changed pretty much everything about the series with Halo 4 - and none of it was in a good way. The Story, characters, designs, music, weapons etc were all much worse in Halo 4 than what was in the previous games.

It more than just licensing reasons why Microsoft hasn't shown their final dash. However, licensing and those reasons go hand in hand.

Steam is free to access the full suite of features.

Xbox Live requires a sub to be remotely useful.

Not really Apples to Apples.

Xbox Live isn't just on the 360 though. There's games on Android and iOS now that require an Xbox account.

Plus Windows 8 app store games.

That's why I thought it'd be bigger I guess.

The first sounds reasonable, though I believe that MS intends to release Halo 5 in 2014. We'll see how tools have come around by then, but I think they can make it.

I'd rather have Halo 2 HD next year and Halo 5? in 2015 or when 343 are able to get the most out of the X1 that they can.

Also happens to be Halo 2 tenth anniversary next year...
