XBL: Games with Gold

Well, the good news is that I know nothing about those games. I suppose the bad news is that there's a reason why I've never heard of them. :P

Keflings is an excellent game, Iron Brigade is not bad. These aren't bad games. People are frustrated because they're relatively old low-value games that we've all either already bought if we were interested in or don't want if we're not. And XBLA games are a worse value since if an old retail game is free, at least that means we can replace our physical copies. Here if you own the game, it's plum nothing.

"Games with Gold" redeemed then, if they can make me discover good games. :)
Will try at least Keflings. The cover makes it look like an Avatar game, though, I'm not surprised I may have overlooked it if I ever saw it on the XBLA marketplace.

It's baby's first god game, but it's a good title.

Everything is old and discounted aside from things that are releasing inside of the last six months.

Right, and their competition IS giving out stuff released in the past 6 months.

I like "Iron Brigade" enough, but I already own it. Hopefully other people enjoy it.
As for "World of Keflings," at first I was upset at this.
Then I realized, it's Xbox's way of letting us say goodbye to our Avatars. You know... because 3 weeks out to launch and all we know is a delayed Kinect game makes you look like an Avatar.
I know I didn't see any characters on the friends list.
Goodbye Avatars, I loved your stupidly long arms. -Adam

So, what's stopping MS from dipping into the the more recent release schedule later on? If you want to make it sound as if MS' free games initiative is doomed for the month, I guess you're right. As far as I can tell, there is a big difference that will likely need to be erased in order to pursue parity with the competition's digital lending library. That will probably be the change of ownership rights to the games offered, requiring Gold members to stay subbed in order to access them rather than keeping them forever as it is now. I'm sure that's no small part of the reason why we're being offered what we are while Sony only really has one central reason to subscribe to the PS3/Vita version of PS+ seeing that it's not required for online play there. That obviously changes with next-gen where MS has not stated its GwG feature will figure in just yet, but I'm sure they'll have to answer Sony's continuation of IGC there.

more and more people seem to be criticizing on Hyrb's blog. maybe if they get enough complaints they'll axe it due to "lack of interest in the program"

I don't understand that constant whining and complaining on the internet. If you don't like it, don't download/play it, they'll know anyway.

You know, you can bag Microsoft for giving us free old games, or free games no one has heard of, but you'd struggle to argue that the free games thus far haven't been good.

I hadn't heard of MM Clash of Heroes before but its a fantastic game.

Iron Brigade is fucking great and its a game I held off on buying because I didn't want to add to my backlog.

More people may know of Iron Brigade by its original name, Trenched.

It's a Double Fine game, people. A pretty good one at that.

Ohhhhh. I have heard of this one then. I remember it looking pretty cool. It's basically the equivalent of Orcs Must Die, except with aliens and steampunk. Is that an accurate assessment?

i hate to bitch about free stuff, but seriously...keflings?? out of the innumerable other potential options, why in the fucking fuck did they settle on that?

major nelson, i know you have an account on gaf now. explain to us how this came to be.

I can see why people might be disappointed, but I'm excited. I've heard good things about both but not enough to push me into purchasing them. Free though? Hell yeah.

Remembered that Halo 3 was free this month so started downloading it when I got in from work. 5.72gb in size, 6hrs later I'm only 60% complete, and I'm on a 30Mbs Fibre connection. :-$

Dunno if it's MS servers or my xbox, but something is derped somewhere.

Jesus, expected crap games but this is another level. Actually Keflings is a great game but already bought it. If they're going to give these types of games away then they should give at least 4 of them a month. Microsoft has no clue to reward consumer loyalty.

I'm very happy with these choices. These are two games that my friend and I intended to play through in co-op, but we couldn't justify buying two copies of each game to do it.

Sums up my opinion perfectly.

Who gives a shit? For the most part when I'm done playing games from PS+ I'm done forever. Its kinda like gamefly, but I can download them and not return them.
I'm filling up my harddrive for games I think my kid will enjoy in a few years. I'm also doing this on steam. but we really shouldn't be doing this in this thread, theirs 2 other active threads for the warz.

I started playing Kefling yesterday (well, to be honest until 3 AM today), and it's good indeed. Feels like playing Warcraft, only without the annoying fighting part. :P (There's no fighting, right ? I noticed you could build walls and towers, but everything has been about collecting resources and building things, at the moment).
I seem to be stuck in the second world, though. I have everything in place to build the keep, but it won't appear. :/

I was gonna bump the thread to say the contrary: I finished it yesterday and I really think that's a shame that MS gives out a "game" like this.

Anyway, do you have the blueprint for the keep? Have you checked if you have completed all blueprints before the one for the keep? Press RB to access your blueprints. Sometimes you have to build intermediary buildings to access new materials or rooms.

If you're stuck at one point, either press LT to get a hint or check to see if a kefling special character has an exclamation point above him to initiate a small side quest to get new stuff, needed for some buildings.

And nope, there's no fighting.

Just downloaded that. Finally get to try it out myself.

I need more harddrive space though. Runnin' real low.
