Why does that bother you so much? I mean do you need other people to see how awesome PS4 is before you can enjoy it? That seems to be the mindset on here lately...

No we need people to stop being so disingenuous. Which is a lost cause. Transparency has been the reason that people have liked Sony over the past year, and even with the shit they pulled with mp3s at launch, they were transparent about it.

You want an Xbone for exclusive games? Fine. You want it because 720p is more 'natural'? Not fine. It's the difference between wanting one for a subjective reason and an insanely wrong objective one.
 
Will Digital Foundry set the Playstation 4 down to 720p or 900p output the way they did to PC this whole generation for comparison screenshots in their head to heads?

Like I said before. MS has the best devs in the world. They will unlock the dGPU with day 1 patch and the truth will finally come out. Devs are locked out of the dGPU right now. Its all a big show. MS knows what they are doing. We will see 4k patches within days of launch. 720 to 1080 is negligible, at best. 1080 to 4k is night/day. Hell, even 1080 to 1100 is night/day. You'll see.

Unfortunately you have the large sites such as IGN out there informing people that it doesn't matter because the Xbox One scales everything to 1080p anyway, so there will be little to no difference. The uninformed believe in scaling because there are other uninformed people writing stories that are informing them. It is absolutely disgusting how much complete crap these "journalists" are putting out there, and how much they belittle people talking about the topic. These people are counting on their readers being ever more ignorant than they are, and most of the time, sadly, they are right.

Resolution increases what people call the IQ but not the look of the "content". Higher IQ can make polygon edges look more smooth but it can't hide missing polygonal detail or effects/shaders/lighting. Especially faces still look far from realistic if you put them side by side with a photo. Higher resoultions just make these difference more obvious.

These games were designed for HD displays, 720p never makes IQ look better than 1080p. It will always look like a blurrier image at the same distance, effects missing on the 1080p image are also missing on the 720p image.
 
Nice that they didn't try and claim the difference isn't noticeable. Honestly, I don't know how anyone can claim that. It's fine if you aren't bothered by it, but don't tell me I'm making shit up.

Yup. Had a Bone fanboy tell me in complete seriousness that the Xbone version of BF4 has features, lighting, and particles that's missing from the PS4 and PC version.

Or has Sony has confirmed you can switch to a web browser without suspending/stopping/pausing the game (as in the game is still running, the fighters still fighting, the racecars still racing, the shooters still shooting live on my screen while I use other apps)?

Because if the PS4 can do it then I'm sold. But if it can't, then I'm more than happy to sacrifice some resolution to have my system run two apps simultaneously without needing to suspend/stop/pause either of them.

Edit: misread what you meant. I'm pretty sure the game freezes when multitasking. Otherwise why would you want the game to run while your using a webbrowser?

LOL I'm just imagining someone racing their car around corners in Forza and trying to browse GAF at the same time. I mean great, that sounds cool I guess.

Honestly without television input through HDMI, there is less need for PS4 to provide that type of functionality because you need something active on one side of the screen and something passive on the other. Gaming and web browsing are 2 active things, while gaming and TV watching are active and passive, so it's a more realistic usage for snap by including the HDMI input.

I guess Sony could try to get Netflix watching while gaming? Just seems silly to me personally to have that level of multitasking. I can do it now on my PC which is my entire entertainment center in my bedroom with large TV and laptop hooked up with remote desk/keyboard/mouse, and I simply don't do it because I can't devote any kind of attention to 2 things at once.

I'm sure Sony will eventually work out that level of functionality because outside of HDMI input, there's nothing really that the XBO has that the PS4 is completely incapable of pulling off from a multitasking standpoint.

In my 20+ years of PC gaming that number of times I ALT-TAB'd or went to windowed mode to do something else is about twice. A more awkward implementation on a game console is completely useless to me, especially considering I have a laptop, tablet, and smartphone at arms reach at almost all times.

This is something that bugged me in the X1 snap thread, YouTube and Skype like apps I'd semi understand but how the heck are you going to web browse and play a game at the same time!?

When in-game XMB first came out for PS3, a lot of games would not suspend or pause when you opened it (whereas games would pause if you opened the 360's menu). Turns out people didn't like that much at all, since you can't control the game and the XMB at the same time, and now more games implement a pause when the XMB is open.

As for "magic" upscaling, of course people think it's magic. Tons of people still use that MontionPlus bullshit on their TVs, thinking it makes things look better. Of course they'd treat upscaling the same way.

I think they are downplaying it, because it's an reaction to the GAF Threads and the reddit rage. We had some interesting weeks here. Threads went up to 70+ pages in a single day.

Those writers are jealous, because it's their job or their privilege to report news and now message boards get the million clicks. And those posts are not written by "professional" journalists, they are full of hyperbole and rage. There are valid arguments in their as well, but this depends on the point of view. As journalist you see the bad side of it.

This creates a urge to not concur with those unwashed raging masses.
Writers don't want to publish just the popular opinion, they want point out new and not so obvious points and also discuss both sides of a story. So as everyboy is talking about the huge res gap, they feel that it is their job to emphasize that average joe can't see the difference in order to paint a more balanced picture.

If nobody would have cared about resolution, it probably would have been the media, that would have made a big deal about it.
