Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I like most of the Smash IPs now but it was a gradual process of me picking them up. It was largely due to the Smash exposure that got me into them to begin with. Some of them like Earthbound I just got into months ago when they finally re-released the game over here.

When the first SSB64 came out I think the only represented franchises I either wasn't aware of or had never played were Metroid and Earthbound. Everything else I was really into (besides F-Zero which I found too difficult back when I was 8, but I'd still played both games a fair bit), which I think is fairly impressive since I hadn't gotten into gaming before late '96.

When Melee came out I was more aware of Metroid but still hadn't really played any of them for a decent amount of time, I still barely knew what Metroid was and had absolutely no clue what Fire Emblem or Ice Climber were. I'd played a ton of Game & Watch Gallery and even had an original one lying around somewhere, so I knew exactly what Mr. G&W was about.

By Brawl I was well-aware of everything that was rep'd and was a big fan of all the featured franchises besides ROB, Pokemon (had kinda outgrown it, though I've just gotten into the new 3DS one after a 10 year hiatus) and Fire Emblem, since they were the only franchises whose games I hadn't played at that point.

By now the only pre-repped series I'm not a fan of or haven't played is still ROB (thanks Awakening!). Gyromite looks kind of boring and gimmicky so I doubt I'm missing much.

Reject the Ike storyline?

When you dismiss canonical entries, events or interpretations set forth in official material for whatever reason and formulate your own canon. This is redundant in FE for the most part considering the alternate continuities between most of them, but for individual continuities sometimes the pooch gets screwed so badly you'll wish the perpetrator never happened. (I feel this way about Other M and Halo 4 for instance.)

You don't necessarily have to accept what the story gives to you. You as the listener/viewer/player are the one that has to derive meaning from the work in the end.

So everytime I ask this question elsewhere, it gets results that are distributed fairly evenly. So I ask you GAF, which one for Smash?

Phoenix Wright v Professor Layton v Travis Touchdown v Viewtiful Joe

This is just for fun

Is there even a Smash fan who is pretty much a fan of every game being featured in it and is knowledgeable about each? I mean, I don't even like most of the featured stuff in Smash - only thing I am a diehard fan of is Pokemon and is a fan of Star Fox and Mario.

With that said it's pretty interesting to see how opinions are formed with regards to that. Stuff like how people have no idea how Pokemon works, how Star Fox works, etc. by others in the Smash fandom is hilarious.

Saying that I haven't play ALL of Nintendo's games but I'm pretty sure that I played more than 60-70% of their games, I hope. I can't think of any Nintendo game that I hate but there are some games that I'm not super fan of but I can still enjoying the game anyway. Instead of listing all of the games that I have played, I will list all franchise that I haven't play that appeared on Super Smash Bros. (Playable characters and assist trophies)

Band Brother
Devil World
Kuru Kuru Kururin
Stafy
Custom Robo
Gyromite (ROB)

I literally had a dream last night that Ridley got confirmed as a character for the game on the Dojo site and this thread freaked out >_>

how does one "reject" a storyline

You don't read comic books do you.

Sometimes... its just god awful, and then sometimes when you really like it the company rejects the story lines themselves. Because a different writer is in charge, and they went into full fan fiction mode.

I have a question for 3DS only buyers and Wii U only buyers,

Hypothetically, if there are few characters that you only able to unlock the characters by Wii U connectivity, and it would apply same thing whoever buy Wii U only because you would have to unlock few characters by 3DS connectivity. Situationally, both systems would have different modes to unlock the system exclusive characters but you can unlock it on other system with connectivity.

Situationally, problem with you are that you don't have friends that are interested in Smash series OR you have friends but they don't want to share their secret characters with you because you only can transfer the characters over the connectivity ONCE so they don't want to lose their opportunity with their characters by giving it to you.

Before you said lol, we can erase the game and do it again. I would applying Pokemon Ranger situation to SSB3DS. What about Pokemon Ranger? You can earn a legendary pokemon in Pokemon Ranger but problem is that you can't erase the game and get Manaphy egg again because it only give one egg PER game itself.

There are some answers that I don't want to see so you are not allowed to use shortcut answers to get out of it such as LOL, IT WOULDN'T HAPPENS, etc etc.

Phoenix Wright easily.

Phoenix Wright easily.

I'd probably buy both if that were the case. I think my brother might get the 3DS one though so I wouldn't run into any problems.

I haven't finished Ice Climbers (although I've played it), but otherwise I've played and finished at least one title of every game series represented with a playable character in Smash Bros.

Layton easily. Second would be Phoenix Wright. Sure, Joe and Travis would be great, but every mainline Layton game was exclusive to a Nintendo console. Just so I know, how does that work out? Is Layton a Nintendo IP and Level-5 develops, or does Nintendo simply publish?

Professor Layton by a mile. Phoenix would be neat, too, but Capcom already has their rep and he was already playable in UMvC3.

Give me the brawl roster plus megaman, waluigi and Lucina and I'm happy. Add Mewtwo too. For the 3DS version

I am so pumped for the final roster. It's
going to be so good!

Man, as said above, I really would love an early demo. I'm intrigued by the idea of Super Smash on 3DS. It'll be great fun to whip it out, have a game or two whilst on the bus, then a quick online fight with some friends.

Sooooo good.

When Smash 64 came out, I had NO idea who Samus or Metroid was. None. I grew up with a Genesis, then got N64 at launch, so no Super Nintendo for me. Also didn't know who Ness or Captain Falcon was. That's what I get for missing out on SNES I guess :p
