The plot is really far fetched at times. Sunrise uses every mecha anime trope and cliche ever. The show is like... imagine taking a bunch of rotten fruit and throwing it in a blender. But instead of something bad you somehow get a delicious smoothie. The show is just enjoyable. Everything works because whoever is working on this is having an incredible amount of fun. The show is fun. It makes you care about the characters somehow. I don't know how. It is magical.

edit: And then there are episodes that are just plain good. Not ironically so. The latest episode being a perfect example.

No episode of Valvrave is ironically good.

Is this show worth watching?

I think its probably one of the best shows in the genre with a really focused and intense storyline, good visuals, excellent music and a really interesting duo with their friends/schoolmates. Plot is a wild rollercoaster ride that promises to never let up for nary an instance. Definitely check it out.

The first episode is just mediocre and dull until the post-credits scene.

It's basically an episode designed to make you believe this is going to be a relatively straightforward clone of Gundam SEED, which had a similar first episode.

But then the stinger tells you that nope, they're doing something a little different and a little more crazy.

Which nobody expected since that part was conspicuously kept out of the promotional materials.

Exactly...

Also let us not forget episode 7... I think it was 7 anyway. With the Shoko/Saki scene.

Being mediocre and dull doesn't make it "ironically good", it just makes it bad. Besides the first episode, I wouldn't call any episode of Valvrave bad, though some are better than others of course.

I know why they did it, and it works, but that doesn't make it more entertaining to watch.

I'm sorry but Q-Vier made ep1 totally entertaining. He makes the best faces and has the most psychotic lines. Lol.

The best:

So I just finished watching Season 1. Can we talk about Episode 10? Why was that a thing? That was just shock value for shock value's sake. It's not an unapproachable subject but I'd expect it to be done with either more tact or to occur in a narrative or setting to provide additional context to the "shittiness" of whatever world/situation we are in. Here it's just obviously "hurr durr look how edgy we are durr" :/

Eps 1 is awesome the whole way, the hell you guys talking about..

Well because after that no one act too edgy so its fine, just a good shagging, homey.

Depends on how you try to look at it. I agree that having such a scene was tasteless enough and did serve as a way to add shock value, but in-universe it also confirmed that the "curse" can be a terrible thing which they weren't really being careful about. Plus, for better or for worse, I'm still thinking they might come back to address the specific cause and its consequences in the future since this show loves twists, although they've already provided the general explanation for Haruto's seizures in early season two.

Having said that, it's still not the worst or even the "edgiest" use of such a plot device in anime or fiction that I've seen so far.

Episode 17

That was okay. A pretty decent set up episode for Valvrave, with some nice developments on where the plot is headed, but it didn't scratch that ITCH I have each week! Hopefully something crazy and super silly happens soon. Things sure are set up for it. Lol. Also, no BLITZENDEGEN this week. Boooooo!

Yeah, what kind of a show do they think they're running here?
Though I guess there weren't any really suitable moments for a good old BLITZENDEGEN considering all the internal Dorssian shit that went down was really antagonistic.

Not as good as last week's episode?

For me I'm just in awe how the story still make sense with how many shit they already throwing.. the twist just getting engaging and even have room for decent characterization for this eps. What kind of black magic they using.

We really need more #Blitzendegen in season 2. I think in 5 episodes so far, we've heard it maybe... twice? C'mon, what's the Dorssian army doing? SHOW MORE PRIDE! :P

poor h-neun. i saw his change back in season 1 and was glad someone was starting to ask questions. now, i am leaning towards the kid shown in the flash forwards as being an a-drei/saki kid. didnt she call him 'prince'? and isnt is known that a-drei is former royalty?

Episode 17

I'm stupid, for some reason it hadn't landed on me yet that
Cain, the Fuhrer, etc... were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE. I had went under the assumption that they had been "changed" somehow by the Magius people to become their drones.

Maybe Koyasu-fuhrer is still alive in that other body?

Not the best episode ever, but really interesting, it gave the story the push it needed.

So... from what we know
Cain isn't Cain....
, right?

That's right.
Not just Cain, everyone whose part of the magius.. The magius are body jackers like Haruto, etc. They seem to be achieving immortality by swapping bodies.

17

Guess they had to start somewhere :(
I'll miss H-neun, he was my second favorite of the bunch and had a great voice and had really come to get a special place in my heart. He was always the seemingly most perceptive one and apart from that tragic mistake could have really moved mountains and such. Cain's host is one tough cookie though I dont know how Haruto and L-elf could expose the truth of the world through him. Anyway. I hope Im wrong that its trying to set up some bad fateful ending in which he and Haruto, would have to sacrifice their life or something to end the war. Low Rune levels in both and continued usage of each other is making this start to become really emotional and saddening if its going that path. Hopefully there is some as of yet identified potential solution.

Episode 18

Episode felt like it went by too fast even if nothing really happened. Some more background on what is going on and stuff which is interesting by itself.

Episode 18

#Blitzendegen

This episode felt kinda weird. I can't really put my finger on it, but there were some nice scenes in isolation but somehow on a whole it didn't feel as complete an episode as VVV usually does. Haruto's dad was hilarious, and L-Elf's stuff was fantastic, but everything else felt a bit ho-hum. But now that L-Elf is really making major moves on his personal ambition, I think the series is about to go into overdrive. Lol.

I think the first half was a bit disjointed. They start up with the flashback and switch places too much, and the layouts when they were talking on the ship and such were rather iffy as well as the character art.
Once they get on the city and the 'plan' starts to get in motion I was completely into the episode. I liked how they made sure to fill the screen with meaningful information about geography and the positions of the characters while the exposition was happening so as to optimize the running time. It started to look much tighter too, Haruto's acting when he was talking to his father was above average for the show (which is not saying much, but in the context of the episode it's effective).

And yeah, they'll probably start going all out next episode. At least I hope so, all this buld-up needs a grandiose pay-off.
