Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

So Link's Dair is finally like Young Link's was (well without the sweet spot being in the handle for some weird reason)?

What's this? What's this? It's Link up in the air?
What's this? A buff; oh, do I dare?
What's this? He takes it away if it's not fair?
WHAT IS THIS?

Nice to see regular Link get some much needed upgrades considering how useless he's been in every single entry whenever I play with others. Toon Link still takes preference tho.

Honestly sakurai, you're gonna talk about Link being overpowered if he has a meteor smash? REALLY?!?!? Slap this man with a large trout and tell him to actually give him a recovery.

We need a overpowered character.

I had a dream last night that they revealed Little Mac and announced they changed the graphics into pixelart.

SmashGAF raged.

It's kind of hard to consider it much of a buff when going offstage with Dair and taking that risk far outweighs the benefits. As it is, in both Melee and Brawl, Link (if he misses the Dair) couldn't make it back to the stage because of the huge amount of endlag the move has. And its onstage uses would still be the same, anyway, unless the meteor pops grounded opponents up for Link to follow-up on for combos.

It doesn't target what makes Link bad, it's just giving him something and not understanding where his problems actually lie. It doesn't target his strengths, either. Dair was already a good move to use for KOs, it didn't need another option to KO with (especially one as risky as a meteor). Yeah, it kind of rewards you for going offstage with it, at least, but it's not helping him much.

But hey he could find it to be "OP" (under the context of what he balances under, which is likely with items on and for mid level players in mind) and take it out anyway so I guess I shouldn't think about it too much. However, it'd also be a bad sign if he took it out because it was considered OP, because tbh I'm finding it hard to believe it would have anything more than very, very situational usage.

Pic of the day. Link's downward strike was designed to change to a Meteor Smash when the tip of the sword is aligned just right at the start. However, it will be removed if it's deemed too powerful overall after some multiplayer play tests.

That's really cool that he is showing something they changed, even if it may be removed. Would be really nice if he shows us stuff like this.

EDIT: I don't get why people are fixated on the fact they are showing this in the Phrosphere stage. It's clearly not the main focus.

Pyrosphere's the bomb, Bankslammer. It's that true shit. Pyrosphere is TRUE shit.

yeah well YOU COULD SAY A LOT OF THINGS ABOUT OTHER M ARE "THE BOMB" AMIRITE

ha
heh

It's probably just one of the only stages that's pretty far along in development that he can easily use to show off mechanics.

that would certainly make enough sense, but it doesn't have enough of an ulterior motive to fit the internet's vision of sakurai at large

he's clearly trying to tell us something

Nicely written. They can give link all the situational moves in the world, but it would do any good if they don't give him a recovery.

Where's Mewtwo? Or Ridley?

They're in the background but are veryyyyyy, veryyyyy tiny pixels that you have to zoom in on in order to see. Sakurai felt it was a good idea to make them hidden in a stage instead of playable so players have something to find years from now.

Just like the legendary double DDD on Dreamland 64 in Melee.

Somehow I read that as sarcastic as I looked at your av Gary's face. lol

I hope Link ends up unfairly good in this game. He's always so bad in Smash, but so many people play him because he's Link.

Sakurai's emphasis on game balancing on some of these Miiverse posts is... interesting. It certainly paints a good picture for the state of SSB4, though it's hard, if not impossible, to say if that picture is just a placebo to try and get the hardcore Melee players to care or something that they're actually working on.

Either way, it makes me hopeful that SSB4 will lean more towards Melee than Brawl. Sakurai just needs to get out some kind of public demo of this thing to iron out a lot of the balance kinks - you can't truly balance a fighter until it's out in the wild, after all.

I have to wonder if this stage is as plain as it looks. If there's not, like, rising lava a la Brinstar, etc.

I hope so. More neutral stages please and thank you.

To balance that, they should make sure the noncompetitive stages go all out into crazy shenanigans territory. Poke Floats and Temple in Melee are great examples.

Do we still have multiple air dodge in this game right?

I don't think I've seen multiple air dodging confirmed, but I'm not sure. Meteor smash is always a huge move for any character though, with or without multiple air dodging. Could be what adult Link needs to be considered as a serious character.

I wonder if Toon Link will have a meteor smash as well? That would make him quite OP in my mind, especially since he's already floaty with his f-air.
