Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Ridley will be stage hazard. That's exactly why there's holes in the walls. He'll be teasing his arrival by looking through walls and and flying behind them, and then BAM surprise entrance, messing with the players.

I don't think I've seen multiple air dodging confirmed, but I'm not sure. Meteor smash is always a huge move for any character though, with or without multiple air dodging. Could be what adult Link needs to be considered as a serious character.

I wonder if Toon Link will have a meteor smash as well? That would make him quite OP in my mind, especially since he's already floaty with his f-air.

If you gave Brawl Link a meteor smash he would still be super ass.

He needs a viable recovery.

Although you need to have glitchy/broken shit and/or psycho disjointed hitboxes to be viable in that awful game.

Also I highly doubt they take out multiple air dodge. Someone go watch the Mario/Mega Man match again. Surely someone airdodges in it.

Toon Link already have meteor smash in Brawl (and Melee (Young Link)) It work very similar where you have to hit specific sweet spot to able to cause meteor smash.

I actually want Ridley playable, despite joking about his size sometimes...

I've said this 5 other times in the other threads but he needs to be voiced by Slowbeef/Diabetus!!!!!!!

It's kind of hard to consider it much of a buff when going offstage with Dair and taking that risk far outweighs the benefits. As it is, in both Melee and Brawl, Link (if he misses the Dair) couldn't make it back to the stage because of the huge amount of endlag the move has. And its onstage uses would still be the same, anyway, unless the meteor pops grounded opponents up for Link to follow-up on for combos.

It doesn't target what makes Link bad, it's just giving him something and not understanding where his problems actually lie. It doesn't target his strengths, either. Dair was already a good move to use for KOs, it didn't need another option to KO with (especially one as risky as a meteor). Yeah, it kind of rewards you for going offstage with it, at least, but it's not helping him much.

But hey he could find it to be "OP" (under the context of what he balances under, which is likely with items on and for mid level players in mind) and take it out anyway so I guess I shouldn't think about it too much. However, it'd also be a bad sign if he took it out because it was considered OP, because tbh I'm finding it hard to believe it would have anything more than very, very situational usage.

As long as you dair while ascending you can safely do it with Link offstage and still recover as it won't send Link plummeting to his death (he will mostly "hover" through it). But otherwise, I completely agree with your post.

I main Link in every installment and while there's no harm in giving him this meteor, it definitely isn't what he needs. I can't imagine how Sakurai would think this would make him overpowered. All it tells me is that he doesn't understand what Link's flaws are, as you stated.

He honestly should be. I don't know why they had him as a boss in SSBB. Also where did your avatar go?

Unless he got other buffs too. If he did this could just be what tipped the scale to "unbalanced".

Ah, yeah it's for specific sweet spot. After re-reading today's pic Link is getting the same thing. Nevermind, I thought it was a always-on meteor smash, which would be insane.

I wouldnt mind if he was playable either, I wont cry a river if he isnt though.

The Best solution: Ridley is a stage hazard AND a playable character.

Toon Link proves it non? Both a character on ze Spirit track stage and is playable to form.

Correction: That's how you play Toon Link if you and everyone else around you is a PRO. In any other environment tiers are meaningless. "Nothing is true, everything is permitted."
Wouldn't that last statement also mean that TL wouldn't be useless anyways?

No, the Toon Link you play isn't the Toon Link from Spirit Tracks, it is the one from Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass.

Still possible though, Ridley has roughly a gazillion forms to choose from...

I wasn't aware casuals had their own tiers.

Original statement was Toon Link's dair isn't a big part of his game, which seemingly implies it isn't necessary to him being a particularly good character. It isn't, really.

Also I feel like casuals would use it less because half the time they kill themselves trying to land a spike with that incredibly risky dair of his.

Exactly.

Which is why I'm dying at the fact that sakurai is all like "don't worry everyone if it's too op I'll take it out"

Dude it's LINK

you put meta knight in brawl

So I've played all 4 Smash Brothers games and still have no clue what a Meteor Smash is. Is it like that stuff where you hold a direction and A to charge an attack?

That's true. Though it would surprise me if they alter him that much. Has any character been seriously buffed/nerfed from one installment to another? I can only think of random changes that they probably didn't realize would affect the character that much, such as taking away Falcon's lunge jump from melee to brawl. That seriously hurt his game but the change itself was "minor."

It's where you do some certain attack on the edge of a stage which sends the opponent rocketing downwards in a Smash like attack.

I'm not 100% sure, but I gathered this much from these guys here.

Here's a video showing some.

You mean 3 right?

Anywhoo a meteor smash is an attack that sends an opponent downward like a meteor lol.

True. I was mostly just postulating and didn't actually believe it either. But in terms of nerfs jigglypuff got hit hard and so did sheik to a lesser extent.

That's a smash attack. Meteor is an attack that has a small "glint" on it and sends people straight downwards, usually used to kill them when they're recovering from off the stage.

Pic of the day. Link's downward strike was designed to change to a Meteor Smash when the tip of the sword is aligned just right at the start. However, it will be removed if it's deemed too powerful overall after some multiplayer play tests.
Attention Mr. Sakurai, I have a great deal for you. I'd like to offer you my services as a multiplayer play tester full time for free. Together, I know we can work together to make the best Smash Bros. game of all time. Thanks.
