Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | November 2013 | Tearaway into a new world

This made me laugh way to hard. It was a purely hypothetical question. Maybe

Same and too bad the sequel got cancelled. I wanted to see those PS1 levels.

yeah I waltz into the game thinking it was gonna be that typical indie trash game where they would try to bank on the "wow so retro, we hip mang" deal.

But it worked out in their favor surprisingly.

Beneath all the trash on PSM, there are some gems.

Tbh I am tired of her from overexposure, but she is magnificent as Kaine, Lucina, and Helena. Don't like her Rise voice because that's the one that she uses the most.

I figured that last part would put me on a lot of people's shit lists lol. She's Lulu's VA from FFX so it eventually grew on me.
That wasn't a no. Good enough. Wait seriously? No wonder she's dead of emotions.

Stick it to the man is releasing on Vita next month, here are reviews of the PS3 ver. which would reflect on the Vita ver. as well.
Woah seriously? I've only recently gotten Hyped for this. The $13 price is extremely welcome. Hopefully it's the new standard over $15. We need to make room for the $20-$30 priced games. And it would be even better if it had a little PS+ discount for week one.

The whole twisted Adventure Time humour got me interested and the art style grew on me recently.

Still need to play through the guacamelee dlc stuff, got too distracted chasing the chickens in the town with the chicken outfit on, awesome that you can float around with that.
Lumines is still okay for me here in EU. Sucks when that happens though, brain was melting while trying to figure out why I thought I had bought PvZ hah.

Yeah, I had to search my email to find the purchase date and then scroll through years of PS+ content, since those "purchases" move up to the date you last renewed/extended your membership.

Luckily, getting my 5 mask pieces wasn't terrible and I now have the power to fly as a chicken again... I'm a good way through the DLC now. Another game to finish up and clear off my card (again).

I should start posting more often. ughhhh

Yeah, you should.

I like Laura Bailey, if that's who we're talking about.

I'm interested in this too, but depends on a lot of factors... I might be "adventure" game'd out at the moment after platinuming TWD and VLR back to back. The good news out of that is that after VLR, maybe buying the 2nd Corpse Party game wasn't such a mistake (I'm leery/not a fan of first-person views in games other than FPS...)

Why do you guys talk about Persona in my sleeping time? D:

Woah what? Maybe in the lyrics for the music department. It's quite a bit more edgy but P4 oozs with style that P3 and almost any other game under the sun wishes it had. Then again, my definition for style is different than yours but, P4 had more of it imo.

I don't know what you mean with style, but I mostly find that P4 and P3 (I've just finished
Nanako's dungeon
) are like the opposite in almost everything. In P3 you are saving the world, in P4 you're investigating some murders.

In P3 characters are more like a bunch of coworkers. You have common objectives, but it takes quite some times until they feel like a bunch of friends (and some characters doesn't fit in that scheme *cough* Ken *cough*). In P4 they are friends, they act like real friends and you can't help but feel they all are necesary (Naoto still needs some time, but he's
Kanji's waifu
, so we must be friendly with him. And I loved how that
Kanji / Naoto relationship
works. How
he wants her to enter in the Beauty Contest to find if he is gay or not was awesome xD

I'm inclined to agree with the song choices, but MC is just some depressive little sack of uninteresting. He's boring. His speech options suck. His attitude sucks. He's just some generic self-insertion filler character.

I at least liked Persona 4 more than Persona 3 in OST. The opening song is awesome. There are some really good battle songs (both Reach Out to the Truth and Time to Make History), Heaven sountrack is awesome too. But I quite like how different they feel compared to every other JRPG out there. Those vocals + the mix of rythms (hip hop, pop and sometimes I even feel there is a little of jazz out there) is awesome. I don't know a lot about music, but I love it. Of course, P3 has some awesome tracks too.

FeMC > MC
At the very least, at least she has a personality.

How can a main character that only speaks through your decisions been "boring and uninteresting". Honest question. Sometimes you may find that there isn't a decision suited for you (I recognize it happens to me a little more in P3 than P4) but overall I find it like saying you lack personality XD.

He is a little cold, that's true. But the game isn't as friendly as P4.

You mean the best one should be included? Yes. And your right, there's no definitive P3 and it's infuriating.

The major reason I don't want to play FES is because i'm scared about not having full control of my party. The "Marin Karin" jokes scares me :S

FES + FeMC + P4 battle system = Awesome.

Maybe corrosivefrost is like the Old Sensei or Guru in mangas/animes/movies, relenting his position honorably to the eager student of his.

I need to fight if I want to keep my position in the top 5 lol.

I think killatopak is like Anakin Skywalker. He will balance the force
killing everyone
. 0 on both sides equal balance, right? XD

Most probably playing Dragon's Dogma or Shadow of the Colossus or Persona 3 FES in my PS3.

Honestly, I've been kind of abandoning my Vita lately... I feel kind of bad about it... but then I remember EDF and Growlanser and I get mad again.

I need to buy 3 months of PS+. My subscription finished yesterday and I want to play more Dragon's Dogma. I've picked your character yesterday, but I had to run away because she didn't have any healing spell!

This character ruined her Rise voice for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p4uoeimMEM *NLS*

Scores of tsunderes ruined JP Rise's VA as well

I found Rise's voice cool. My major complain with VA is Chie, but she is too awesome to be ruined. Naoto's voice is quite weird because he
sometimes talks like a guy and sometimes like a girl, but i think it's on purpose
.

Still, most games I played (outside of JRPGs and other niche stuff) are dubbed in Spanish. So I don't hear voice actors like Troy Baker (or whatever is his surname) in half the games I play xD

Correct me if I am wrong but! Isn't P3's MC is the only MC in the history of Persona to be awarded with Universe Card? P4's MC can throw his glasses as much as he wants but Universe card man! Universe!

Anyways, P3FES on Vita in any shape of form would be the biggest reward that I could hope for. I'll buy it with the force of a thousand Nyx.

Well, she's a Sorcerer, not a Mage! :O

Well, she's a Sorcerer, not a Mage! :O

I discovered that difference too late haha

I don't know how exactly the class system works. I'm keeping my pawn as a Soldier (basic melee class) because she can use a shield, so I can let her tank while I'm shooting arrow from behind. I want to become an Assassin and I'll change vocations soon, but I don't know how everything works exactly.

A recent potential boyfriend of mine just picked up a Vita. We played 20 hours of Dragon's Crown yesterday and we're playing Soul Sacrifice together when it's up on PSN. <3 <3 <3

Dang, 20 hours of DC in one day

That's deeper than a date right (　・´ｰ・｀)

It was over two days ;) I guess there was a bit of sleep in the middle.

Does anyone else have issue with the Vita notification light lighting up for no reason? I don't have any notifications when I take it out of sleep to check...

Much quotes to respond to. Need many sleep. Will have to quote back an entire page length when waking up tomorrow. Later.

A bit off topic here, sorry for everyone else!

So basically, in terms of leveling up, everything about Dragon's Dogma's is based on stat growth on the class that your characters have when you level up. If you level up as Fighter, then you get more defense, HP, physical attack, etc etc etc than if you level up as a Mage... the usual stuff.

In Dragon's Dogma there are two different levels up: character levels up and vocation rank level up, both are independent from one another. You accumulate vocation rank points (this is invisible) by killing stuff. So let's just say you accumulate enough kills to upgrade 2 vocation ranks as a Fighter, but if when you do level up your character is a Sorcerer, then you level up and more powerful as a Sorcerer, not as a Fighter, regardless to the fact that you upgraded 2 vocation ranks as it.

This play an important part due to two things: augments from one class that can be carried over to another class and your eventual plan on what your characters will be proficient in.

Take Sinew, for example, an augment from rank 5 Fighter that anyone should have, regardless of class. But it is from Fighter, right? It would be alright if you are planning to get a character proficient in physical but what about if you want a Mage type character? The solution is to just kill stuff using Fighter to raise vocation rank, switch up to Mage/Sorcerer when you level up, then switch back afterwards to kill more stuff.

If you are planning to have a physical-proficient characters, then it is a good idea to stick your characters on physical based class during level ups. Fighters are the best in defense but kind of sucky in stamina. Warriors trade off 1 point of defense for the highest HP in the game, but really sucks in stamina. Ranger gives off the best stamina growth but underwhelming defense and an increase in magic which the class mostly just don't use. Assassin boasts the highest attack growth and decent stamina but really suck defense and magic defense both, making it a glass cannon character of sort.

For magic-based it is generally agreed that Mage sucks overall in terms of growth when compared to Sorcerer, who boasts the highest magic attack and defense (with really sucky defense and stamina)

Jack of all trades aren't proficient in anything but they can cover a variety of situation. Magick Archer and Mystic Knight is this. Strider can also be classified as this, since they boast really balanced stat growth that does not excel or suck in anything, so it is a great beginning class if you can't decide at first whether you want to be magical/physical in the end.

Bamco stuff rarely go on sale, so I would suggested grabbing it at that price. You could hold off though, but I don't recall GE Burst going on sale at all this entire year up til now.

Thank Tizoc! Bought =D

Also Happy (belated?) birthday, killatopak!
(Not sure what timezone you're in :P)

It does that occasionally.

Also, for some reason I want VitaGAF to hold some sort of end-year contest or something with the winner getting perhaps a voucher reward? Just a special celebration of the beginning of 2014 for all or us here, heh.

If he has a Vita, he shouldn't be potential but actual boyfriend hahaha.

Jokes aside, having common interests is good. Relationships are all about balance. You can show him VitaGAF too, we don't bite :)

@Laughing Banana : Thanks for the lesson, man. So I guess the important point is leveling up the Vocations up to level 3-5 (they use orbs and there are 10 i think) then change so you can boost stats properly. I was a bit lost and I didn't find a good guide in Google.

I'll change to Assassin then, in every single game RPG I played (World of Warcraft aside) I've been using Archer/Assassin classes. I like to mix ranged and melee and the heavy focus in evading stuff.

BTW, for healing what is the best class?

Well, Mage, since the highest level of healing spells are reserved exclusively for Mage. But Mage's growth is really inferior when compared to Sorcerer, pound per pound. That's why most players who are planning to make their Main Pawn a healer levels up their pawn as Sorcerer most of the time before turning them into a Mage to greatly boost up their Magic Attack first.

Kind of important to note that, however, a spell that can cure Lowered Stat and Petrification, perhaps the deadliest affliction in the game since it is a guaranteed death if you don't carry/have cures for it, is an exclusive to Sorcerer (High Voidspell.)

Generally the ideal party is one Range, one Tank, one Healer, and the final one is actually whatever (I usually carry Sorcerer since their attack magic is off the roof and spells like High Bolide, High Seism, and High Maelstrom are not just the most impressive visual spectacles in the game but they also wreck stuff) and you need someone to kill magic-weak enemies anyways.

Since you want to go Assassin, I recommend you go through Fighter first to get Sinew, Vehemence, then go Warrior for Clout, Proficiency, Bastion, and Ferocity. Pick also Awareness from Sorcerer. Assassin's augments are really sucky, for the most part (they were neutered greatly from the original Dragon's Dogma), and you can really use the extra defense/HP.

So it was OP in the original Dragons Dogma but now is nerfed to hell. Yes, it sound like my love for doomed things is working again haha.

I'll see if I can buy a PS+ card today or tomorrow and continue my gameplay. The game is (gameplay wise) almost perfect for me. I hate how some games (Remember me is the most recent example) try to make everything so auto(cine)matic that it hurts the flow of the battles.

For me this game is how Monster Hunter should have been. It ressembles his handheld brother, but it has an actual story, a proper class system and the combat doesn't feel clunky. The health system is cool, too.

I'm looking for something to satisfy my SRPG itch and I'm on a budget.

Do I go for Disgaea 2 or FFT: War of the Lions?

I'm swaying towards Disgaea 2...I loved the first on the PS2.

I'm trying to not be too eager beaver, but here I am posting about it on message boards! I'll make sure to let VitaGAF know if there's one true Vitabro in my life at any point.

how is proteus on vita? Already have it on steam but never played it. Think it might suit portable play with headphones.

The augments, not the Assassin itself mind you. Example of the augment nerf: one of the augments, Bloodlust, was hugely popular in the original DD because it increases your attack/defense by 70%! at night, so people usually sleep at inn, slap Bloodlust, and go and kill a boss or something. Now they neutered it to just 20%.

Nothing can compete with Assassin for the highest amount of physical attack! :) Coupled with Vehemence and Clout, Assassin's stabbity stabbity stab is the most powerful of them all, no questions asked.

War of the Lions are suffering from annoying slowdowns, if you don't know about that :\

We'll keep your secret...

It's not as if GAF was a public forum lol

I did not know that, thanks. Disgaea it is then it seems...unless someone has a better suggestion for about the same price.

EDIT - It looks like Disgaea 3 has been free on PS+ in the past. *sob sob sob*

I bought physical for this, for about 20 bucks. The price they ask in PSN is crazy!

Anyways, War of the Lions' slowdown does not make the game unplayable, and for the PSP version there is actually a patch going on to fix it... but of course you need a CFW PSP to enjoy it since Square is too stupid/lazy/annoying to fix it themselves.

In terms of gameplay War of the Lions >>> Disgaea 2 but, man, a slowdown for every time you launch special attacks? Crazy world.

How does a potential boyfriend works.

Just like a game in discount from PS+.

assuming you mean, discounted game while you have it on PS+ otherwise I don't get it and that might be me. What a headache atm (yesterday too argh. should probably go dentist lol).

Stick it to the man does look good and a nice price too. Will be grabbing it, most reviews so far seem good - hopefully they iron out the technical sound thing mentioned in the gamespot review for the vita version.

Seems I'm getting most handheld games by end of this month-
Tearaway, Ys and some 3DS games.
Hope my local shop gets Ys though >_<

Anyways, Stick it to the man is indeed cross-buy for US and EU PSN, even though you get the Vita ver. in December, in case anyone was wondering-
I asked the producer just to make sure and he said that it is indeed the case.

Gamespot review also confirms it:
http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/stick-it-to-the-man-review/1900-6415529/

So if you like Adventure games def. look into getting it ;)

have you played tactics ogre: let us cling together? beats the disgaea games in every way IMO and its port is far better than the FFT port as it has no slowdowns and the graphics don't wash out on the vita screen, in fact the colors look beautiful!

Ohh :( I've never played a Tactics Ogre game but I've just bitten the bullet on Disgaea 2. Next month!

I've promised the gf that I will tone down my video game expenditure and save more money, so I'm trying have some self control.

Oh wonderful Tactics Ogre, still have my physical copy, just waiting to double dip on a sale for the digital one.
Kinda offtopic I was playing blackguards this weeked(SRPG, turn based, very good) and I missed the big ass maps with height differences that FFT and TO had, is so much fun peppering enemies with an archer on the top of a building...

^Fixed it for ya :p

I kept the link so some people could understand and get less hype, i'm not that evil lol.

Anyway is sony localizes the game in chinese and korean maybe there's hope...
But i still hope for type 0 first of all :(

Hmmmm. I have a buttload of games I haven't finished in Vita... Rayman Origins, Soul Sacrifice, Malicious Rebirth, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed Liberation, Dragon's Crown (well, I have seen the credits but I haven't done any post-game activities yet....)... I still have so many unplayed PSN games too like Guacamelee, Machinarium, stuff like that.

The last time I invested a pretty good time in Vita is for Dragon's Crown.

Same, but I've been trying to hold off on buying new Vita games until I beat my older ones. It's been working out fairly well so far.

We are in the same boat friends. I have a decent sized backlog on Vita and this Pokemon binge isn't helping. Tearaway will help me break it and rejoin the brotherhood. One thing I will say though, since going handheld gaming only with Vita & 3DS , I have been immensely satisfied with what has been offered. What a luxury.
