Kotaku introduces the Amazon Playstation Network Store

Won't be getting a PS4 at launch - not buying any console at launch - but this has basically guaranteed that I will get one a year or so in. Sony is doing a great job earning mindshare and respect.

Wow Sony opening their marketplace for digital competition is big. I know they dabbled with codes before, but if they go full steam like openness this is a game changer.

It is a huge game changer. Now the PSN has a competitor, competition drives down prices, and we all win.

That was one of the big reasons we should all want all consoles to at least be semi successful, it opens competition, drives creativity and innovation, and lowers prices.

Why, why, why doesn't Amazon purchases link to Sony rewards? Getting points for Amazon purchases seems like a smart move, especially with the announcement of the Amazon Playstation network store.

So, with Amazon.com - you can live in Canada and purchase digital goods (I've done this for steam-based digital games and Kindle books) so long as your "billing" address is set to America.

This should work for the PSN digital store, no? However, will the PSN codes from Amazon work with a Canadian PSN account. That's the real question, I think.

This is a huge step on Sony's part toward that looming all digital future. Without direct digital marketplace competitors, the consumer is forced to pay the highest price. The reason PC digital has succeeded so much is due to the numerous storefronts available.

This is something I certainly didn't expect, and it's quite welcome. The question is will Microsoft follow suit, and will we see even more alternatives presenting themselves as well?

MS has to follow.... if not you are gonna hit a situation where you can buy superior digital ports of PS4 games for a fraction of the price of the XB1 equivalent.

What does this mean for content management though ? Will all of my purchases still be listed in the same place, or will PSN and Amazon purchases have their own download lists ?

It'll work like Steam.

Your game library will be on PSN. Your order history + code (if you ever need it again) will be on Amazon.

For all of my purchases ?

No, your digital purchases on Amazon.

You buy a PSN game code on Amazon. Amazon keeps that order history. You input that game code on the PSN store, it's in your PSN library.

Essentially think of it like this: After you buy the game code of Amazon and input that code into PSN, you are basically done with Amazon at that point. There will be a history of your purchases there but you never need to go back to Amazon if you don't want.

At first I thought this was kind of cool, then I started thinking about all the GMG deals I use to get Steam games for so cheap, and realized this opens up the possibility for those kinds of deals on PS4. This is megaton indeed.

They also do this for the US-psncards, i can't buy them with my Swedish visa because billing address isn't in the US. However, what I can do is buy a giftcard for the same amount of cash and mail that to myself. With the gift-card I have no problem buying US psn-cards or other digital products, the only thing is that I changed my address to a hotel somewhere when i use the giftcard. But it works just fine, been doing it since the US-psn stopped accepting my Visa and i refuse to pay 55 USD or more for a 50 dollar PSNcard.

I can buy US PSN codes with my non US credit card. I just used the address of a freight company I use to ship physical stuff to my country and it works like a charm (the same thing does NOT work on the PSN store, since that actually detects where the card is from). So hopefully this will also work.

it works that way. you put a fake us shipping address (i use a restaurant in miami) and you can use your non us credit card to buy from amazon.

The article is confusing.

The B2G1 sale today is for launch day discs only, right? But, if you participate, they'll give you $5 PSN credit?

And when does the store expand? It's very limited at the moment. When can I apply that credit to Tiny Brains, for example?

Another US-only thing from Amazon. Huge disappointment.

Really though this needs to go global eventually right?

Potentially could be pretty cool, but it seems pretty limited right now. Only 60 PS3 games up, mainly PSN titles it seems like.

It also seems like you still have to input the code manually in order to add the game to your library.
