Twitch streaming from PS4 is now live

People already streaming. Good. Now people can see and judge the games for themselves before they buy it. Further reducing the gap between direct consumer feedback.

Considering how I've felt a lot of the gaming press has handled lead up to the launch of both systems, I'm glad that is the case.

Wants a GAF membership? Gotta apply and then wait an indeterminable amount of time before he's approved.

No. His stream is awful. A blurry, muffled mess. If your barber only had a rusty breadknife to cut hair with would you give him a break? Etc. Etc.

I think that might be on your end. It's clear for me. Or maybe it's the size of my iPhone 5 screen.

He ended the stream but the PSeye is still capturing his voice.....

Unprecedent partnership with NSA?? Lol. I see some interesting moments in the future

You pay your barber. You're not paying him. You can complain all you want but it'll just make you look silly.

I guess I'll just have to look silly, then!

To continue the tedious barber analogy (which I indicated was tongue-in-cheek in my OP by the use of "Etc. Etc."), I am paying him. I'm paying him with my time. I watched an ad before I got to the stream. And if my barber starts hacking my hair with a rusty breadknife, I leave without paying and I complain about it to my friends. Same deal here!

I wasn't being flippant or trying start an argument. I was simply pointing out that the stream is garbage and that I'll just wait for someone to do it properly rather than waste my time with a sub-standard experience.

I'm continually nonplussed at the internet's attitude towards stuff that is "free". It's not free. Value your time. But that's a totally different argument and far from on topic. I'll say no more - I was just doing a bit of complaining about a poor quality stream.

Twitch integration looks awesome, one of the things I'm most excited for this gen. Knack looks horrible though.

I'm starting to warm to the PS4 UI too, although it really doesn't look practical for when you have loads of games installed.

It's going to be awesome when you can just hop onto twitch and watch people play console titles, but I do wonder if devs will impose restrictions on twitch streaming for perhaps the first week after launch to protect story elements.

That's on you, not on him. And no you are still not paying him.

He's still doing you a service you requested, this guy is not.

Little more then a "bit" I'd say. And it doesn't matter if it's free or not, no one made you watch it, no one even asked you to watch it.

At risk of dragging this wildly off topic, this is exactly the response people always come up with! Does the fact that I have a choice prohibit me having an opinion? Why are positive opinions acceptable, but negative opinions always met with "well, you don't have to do it!". Absolute nonsense.

I promise, I'm saying no more. This attitude just gets on my tits.

You got it all wrong, no one is prohibiting you from having an opinion. You are not giving opinions, you are complaining about him wasting your time. That is not an opinion.

Now you're just arguing semantics. Opinion, positive or negative, praise or complaint, it's all perfectly relevant and acceptable, whether the thing you're talking about is "free" or not.

But let's agree to disagree. In my opinion, "you don't have to watch it, so you are prohibited from complaining" is complete and utter rubbish. A ridiculous stance to take. This is a discussion forum.

He says he has an upload cap of 0.90mb, but considering that, the stream actually looks half decent. I wonder if the PS4 has some kind of smart/adaptable bandwidth usage when streaming?

If you don't have the camera can you do audio only voice streaming, essentially talking over what's being played?

yes, optionally

with camera = video (or voice only) optional
without camera but headset = voice optional
no camera/mic = just the game feed

Seriously? Mine is 2mb and it always looks so shyte! I've been thinking about upping it to 6mb.

pretty sure I've seen over the last few days Sony mention that you will need over 2Mb for a "high quality" stream. 2Mb or less and your quality is going to be totally YMMV.

FWIW, between going all digital this gen and twitch streaming I just upped my time warner to 30x5 for $55. Yeah it's $240 more per year... but in the long run it's going to pay off. We've already had more than a few times were there were two or even three streams going in the house at a time.

Knack actually looks a lot better than the reviews make out, actually looks like a lot of fun to me.

Also really impressed with how decent the Twitch PS4 integration is (get to it Valve, get this universal on Steam).

Yeah Knack looks better than I expected. It looks like a decently fun little brawler with some interesting mechanics.

The stream is nice and pretty seamless. I didn't know if I would use this, but ties pretty rad. Also, Knack looks better than reviews.

I think live streaming will change the way people discover and form an opinion about games. Seeing real, everyday people playing them live will do a good job of showing them what the title is and how it plays, instead of having to rely on heavily edited, and possibly biased, reviews from the usual outlets.

I already feel like this with PC gaming, now consoles will benefit from the same. It's great.

So are you guys saying that if I buy the PS camera, when I stream gameplay to twitch, it will also show myself playing the game if I want?

I'm just picturing a new rock band and not telling my friends the camera is streaming them playing.

Instant you tube sensation.

Very suspicious.

Bearing in mind the reports of dropping framerates on PS4, how is going to 1080p going to help?
