Polygon PS4 12 hour discussion stream

I get the impression from one or two of the guys that they are not very excited about gaming. Are they bored?

Not a good impression for this first time viewer.
 
Absolutely shocking that Polygon seems to be about the only people who say Vita doesn't work too well. And it's not just one of them, SOMEHOW, REMARKABLY, ALL OF THEM have had bad experiences with it!
 
I find it fascinating that Gies talks about playing Killzone on a 60" TV. And still can't see the difference between 1080p and 720p.

Polygon's rating of the PS4 is in part a function of the exclusive launch software available for it.

I think the system review would be better served separating the launch software from the hardware itself in terms of scoring. After all, the hardware will be here for a decade. Software selection will improve over time and its score shouldn't be beholden to it.

Then again, mobile phone reviews like those for the Nokia Lumia tend to mention the lack of software as a negative if I recall correctly. But...mobile phones get turned over annually where consoles do not. IDK.

Thought id check if the talk about them being all negative was true. So i entered the stream and i didn't even have to wait for it... every one of them were being negative about something ranging from Killzone to the vita.

Left after 30 seconds.

Well, they just lost a follower.

I always kinda liked some of the Polygon guys, and, I dug some of the long form stuff they did, but, this shit is embarrassing. Constant mocking and cynicism is neither fun or informative to listen to or watch. Its just depressing.
 
It just feels like they've aged out of gaming, but this is their profession, so they keep at it. I don't feel any real enthusiasm here. It's kind of sad.

There is a big difference between having an ad deal, which honestly does cause issues at times (see gamespot) and having a company basically finance the founding of the site. It would cause all kinds of issues.

There's an easy way to see if a given site is biased. Compare the scores each title was given to the metacritic average. Do this for all platforms. If the difference is the same for both platforms, then there isn't a bias there.

You could go much further if you wanted to and also quantify content of previews; are more previews talking about Xbox or ps4? Classify them as positive or negative. Is it even or not? Compare to other sites.

Frankly that should be done for all sites and posted publicly. There are valid situation where a site should be posting more news or more positive news for one console or another, but not over a long time period.

This has been done already for PS3 and 360 exclusives and 360 games actually scored lower than metacritic on average. Taking out the shitty Kinect games the difference was still negligible.
 
Gies thinks letting u do remote play via an app on a phone or tablet would be better than on a system that has two sticks and face buttons.

How did this man get in the position he is today?

These guys are ridiculous... I mean criticism is ok but come the fuck on..I have been disregarding the hate towards Polygon, now I see it. Wow. These guys are so negative about everything.

No way we see ps4 get a price drop in the first year. They have no price pressure at all.
 
Came in from the Killzone thread. I am in fucking awe of what I am watching. It's like a MS PR website, operated by bored spokesmen sitting at their little gray table, in front of their video screen, just pouring out cynical bullshit in a slow, lifeless drawl. How oddly fascinating.
 
Tuned in and immediately I hear them shitting on it and talking about how "a bunch of people cancelled their pre-orders" after seeing the launch lineup. What a joke.

In 2025 there is still just as many active PS4's than there are Xbox Series consoles in homes. PS4 will be 12 years old in November.
