Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | November 2013 | Tearaway into a new world

You can't stand the most beautiful 2d platformer artstyle ever? Granted, Rayman & friends themselves are goofy-looking, but the environmental art is pretty much the best ever.

I think that's what he meant, as with Tearaway, I do not like the designs of Atoi/Iota but think the rest of the game looks gorgeous.

Rayman for me is what Atoi is to corrosivefrost. I'd like to get into it but just can't stand the aesthetic.

You can change your player character pretty quickly -- most of my Rayman time was actually played as Blue Globox. If you end up hating all the designs, well... fuck. :(

Bought Flower yesterday. Game looks and runs beautifully on the Vita (despite being subnative). I was never sure if it would be a game I'd like, because the premise always sounded a little boring, but it's quite fun. Worth the $7.

Also been playing Jak II. It's not as bad as some people said it was- I've found it to be perfectly playable, and I managed to get past areas I had trouble with in the PS2/PS3 releases on my first try (I'm farther in the Vita version than PS3- just enjoy playing it portably better). My only complaint is that the sound quality could be a tiny bit better. It's not terrible- nowhere near as bad as Assassin's Creed or Resistance, but still. There's too much treble. My biggest complaint is with the rear touchpad controls. They work fine, but the game doesn't tell you which region of the touchpad to touch for each action (Dark Jak, stats, hoverboard, and first person view are all mapped to it). It's a big annoyance- the manual doesn't even say. I had to look it up online.

Where do you find all this SSD stuff?

I learned that Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds is coming to Vita in Feburary, I suggest everyone check it out. It's actually a really fun 2D brawler that happens to be filled with undefined moe blobs.

There's also apparently a retail version ~5000 yen? Weird.
Best character:

I hope they give us the avatars (and Steins;Gate extra avatars) as well.

You don't have to save the picture by rightclicking. "save url" is differnt from "save picture", it just copy the url, so you don't even have to open a new tab.

You're right. Sorry I read it as "save image" for some reason.

You know - I could be very wrong here... but I *think* that bluemaxima likes Flower maybe just a little bit.

Just a hunch...

Guess I'll have to go buy it now.. thanks for the review Bluemaxima.

Well it is a beautiful game. The way the grass blows in the wind and glimmers in the light, its something to marvel at.

Some capture card gameplay of Injustice-

Watching it on my Vita, it looks pretty good. I'd say it looks better than DoA5+ (out of fighting games), but in general it also looks better than Assassin's Creed: Liberation. My biggest issue with the graphics is that they look washed out.

Another Vita game I want to buy. Too many games :(

I heard you can increase the contrast for the game in the settings!

Parappa the Rapper on Vita? Could be good if it turns out true.

I think it uses the same strategy that the PS3 uses, meaning its native res around the outsides, and then it gets lower as it gets to the center.

Phew! So glad to be back to Vita GAF. I had some really stressing days helping my younger brother with some health issues (everything stable now btw) and reading the thread always brought a smile to my face. Vita GAF is by far the best and most friendly community in these forums.

Now I have to find a way to support all those neat games coming. Tearaway and Ys will already eat my budget, but I also want Flower (never got it before), Catherine and others!

Inderasting times for Vita lies ahead.

GE2 & VitaTV.

GE2 will do well no doubt, but the VitaTV is truly the wild card here.

Definitely. I don't think there is a precedent for it. I'm very curious about how Japan will react to it.

now i finally know where your avatar came from!
Didn't realize they made a Suzuha one! Hope nobody's using it. /swipe

As far as I recall, the Makise Kurisu DLC was actually cut from the game prior to release as a means of cutting the cost of the game from the intended $15 to a more palatable $10 (with DLC).
I'm not sure if they fixed it in the original, but if not I hope they fix it in the Vita version, dealbreaker: You couldn't play as Makise online with anybody that didn't also own the DLC :x I imagine most people who'd pay $5 for her would want to play her, really annoying.
Odd Retail version. 4500 yen, so you're paying ~$30 for apparently exclusive costume(s), soundtrack and book.

I fear if VitaTV does badly, Sony will not bring it across the pond.

Especially when they have the xbox 1 and Wii U
lol
to deal with.

AND especially with SCEA current attitude towards the Vita

I think they will bring it over regardless how it does in Japan if only because it offers great value to PS4 owners.

It is a great "accessory" to the PS4, but why add a extra burden to SCEA when the regular Vita can be that "accessory"?

If it does get a western release, I can see the yuros getting it because SCEE actually seems to like the Vita.

But of course, I'd like to be proven wrong.

We Vitachums need to stick together! It's a hostile world market out there for us after all...

Best wishes to you, your brother, and your family. Medical problems are no joke.

My brother and roommate hopped on the RaidoShack $160 Vita dealie. They should be here Friday. It's gonna be interesting being the "Vita guy" that day. ;)

In fact, I'll probably be using Skype Vita for the first time in ever that day too! O_O

The environments look great, just don't like the wacky Saturday morning cartoon style of the characters. Although I'm not a big platforming guy in the first place and the completionist in me got bored of running the same stages multiple times to get all the collectibles/achievements.

Hmm well I'm definitely getting Flower for sure.
Okay, self-control fails again, going to grab proteus too before I lose that £1 discount ;P
--no regrets on proteus, really do like it. - love the Sitting and postcards idea too. Needed something relaxing and like this
Saw your 3/5 rating for flower...not as excited as BM was? Is that because so used to it on PS3? I haven't played it yet.
Me? I didn't like the Star Wars Racer control scheme and the sub-native res, and lack of sensitivity options for tilt rubbed me the wrong way. Then I rated it 5* because I'm stupid and Flower is awesome, beautiful, and control just fine because I remembered how to read the instructions. Also, I can't wait for the PS4 version. 1080p goodness.
It seems SCEJ is doing a soft launch for VitaTV. They don't appear to be running any TV ads based on their Youtube channel.
SCE is being super careful with the Vita and the VTV. They need it to launch right.

good on them - make us proud and show them the way to vita enlightenment

I'm having an issue lately with my Vita. It will just stop using the internet properly out of nowhere. Like I'll be using the browser, click a link, and it won't load a page. I can close the app, reopen, ect. It will never again load a page until I turn it all the way off and turn it on again. The same thing happens with the Youtube app. I get an error and then nothing on the internet will load.

This just started recently too. Anyone else have this happen?

Injustice plays very well, but looks worse then I expected. Overall, it's a better port then Mortal Kombat (which was pretty good, visuals aside).

Psyched about the Rayman Legends stuff. I'm glad they didn't "forget about it". It will make that platinum much easier to acquire.

Shame about GR and UC:GA not being changed to something new. I suppose I have more than enough stuff to keep me entertained right now though.

Picked up the new Adventure Time game on PS3 today. It would have been really good on Vita, oh well :(

Am I silly for wanting to have a Vita over a PS4 for Tearaway?

Launch games arent spectacular. It will be worth it to wait, the library for upcoming games is looking good.

Edit: I've been noticing a long vertical scratch in the middle of my vita screen....It's very annoying especially in brightly colored games, any way I can fix it?

I have $30. And only $30. I can either buy Tearaway, another year of PS+ (Mine expire Black Friday) from Gamestop, or other Vita games... that I really think I want. Tearaway or PS+ or Indie Games?

I doubt you can do this, but does anyone know if it's possible to stream a Blu-Ray disc from your PS3 to your Vita? Maybe with remote play or something? I doubt it's possible but I'd like to know.

yes.

I usually close browser/youtube, goto settings, connection test, wait fot it to say all good then go back to whatever. It is really annoying though

Oh nice, good tip. That sounds faster than having to totally shut down and wait for it to read my game cart over and over again.

Did it also start happening to you recently or have you had the problem for a long time?

What's a good reliable case for a Vita w/ a silicon cover? My aforementioned roommate and brother bought the Amazon Basics case, which is REALLY good for protecting the system...just that it only fits the system sans silicon cover. So they're having thoughts of taking it back and getting a case like this, which is similar to one that I own.

I also showed them the Pull and Go Folio case, but it seems to be discontinued and costs $30 elsewhere.

So, good cases that fit silicon covers...any recommendations?

God Eater 2 came out today in Japan, and Namco Bandai have announced that they've shipped over 500,000 units. http://www.famitsu.com/matome/ge2/131114.html

It's a dual platform release, so it'll be interesting to see which has the bigger allotment of the total there. Hoping it does well regardless. The release of Burst here was a sleeper hit for me. Love the series dearly since!

I don't like that game, so I'll pass if it's ever released in the West. But I'm happy that Rebirth 1 met expectations, I guess...

in what terrible alternate reality are these characters not super dope

I don't specially like Rayman characters, but Rayman Origins looks beatiful either way. Controls work well, the learning curve is pretty good and there is quite a lot of things to do in the game.

GTA Vice City cheats:
Perfect Traction (D-pad Down is Car Hop) ... DOWN, LEFT, UP, L1, R1, TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, X
Slower Gameplay ... LEFT, LEFT, CIRCLE, CIRCLE, DOWN, UP, TRIANGLE, X

Aggressive Drivers ... UP, UP, RIGHT, LEFT, TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, CIRCLE, SQUARE
Peds Riot ... R1, L1, L1, DOWN, LEFT, CIRCLE, DOWN, L1

Never Wanted ... UP, RIGHT, TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE, DOWN, LEFT, X, X
Armor ... UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, SQUARE, SQUARE, L1, R1
Health ... UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, CIRCLE, CIRCLE, L1, R1

Makes for a very relaxing but nutty experience. I was playing normally and saw that a taxi I had jacked could hop. Don't think I got lucky and entered the cheat, just a weird taxi so looked it up and found the codes to do it all the time. Yep, died before getting it to garage, hopping everywhere in a car is dangerous :P

Also found the mushroom medicine shop in retro city rampage, having more fun with that :)

Star Wars Racer huh, loved that game :) I would like to try it out on a big tv and native etc but think I'll probably play it most on Vita. Had a long time to grab it on PS3 and didn't. Cross-buy seals it. Lame they don't include an option to tweak sensitivity though, that's just bad.
