Honestly, if consoles have become this finicky and require this much troubleshooting, you might as well build a PC.

This. He needs to leave the cable alone and switch the tv to HDMI 2 to prove it. He has refused to go from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 this whole time.

1.) Turn everything on
2.) Do not touch the HDMI cable
3.) If it is on HDMI 1 then switch the tv to HDMI 2 *NOT SWITCHING THE CABLE*
or If it is on HDMI 2 then switch the tv to HDMI 1 *NOT SWITCHING THE CABLE*

I don't think he has done the bolded.

Turn off the PlayStation 4 by pressing the power button on the front panel. The power indicator will blink for a few moments before turning off.

Once the PlayStation 4 is off, press and hold the power button. Release it after you've heard two beeps: one when you initially press, and another 7 seconds later.

Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the provided USB cable and press the PS button on the controller.
