Yep, that's why I said that there's no a *huge* power gave between the two anymore: last year it was massive with the Mini being 2gen behind the flagship iPad, now it's just a slight difference in how the CPU is clocked

I picked up an air and I love it. The screen is perfect and I am able to play on the bigger screen while holding my sleeping newborn no problem. It is light and a nice form factor!

Cool! Welcome aboard, enjoy! :)

Bought a retina mini instead of a console. Don't think I'll regret it.

This is my first iPad though, any must buy games? Into pretty/thinking type games, not really tilt to move or action type stuff. Also I really like boardgames.

I'm sure this post is made like every page, I'm sorry D:

The Room, and there's a board game thread in Community.

So I just upgraded my mini to a mini with retina. Going to give my mini to my daughter. Is iCloud backup a good way to transfer everything to the new one? I really hate iTunes lol

- Breach & Clear is tactical stategy
- Superbrothers has a wonderful pixel style
- Incoboto is a great puzzle platformer with an atmospheric style and challenging puzzles
- Strata is a minimalist artsy puzzle game

Yes. That's the whole reason iCloud exists.

Awesome. Never used it but was hoping it was that easy.

edit* still downloading all the apps, but that was surprisingly easy lol

edit2* looks like certain games backup fine others I lost all progress on. Kind of sucks but I half expected it.

Has anyone played Oceanhorn yet? It's pretty damn sweet for a tablet game. It also has a soundtrack composed by Nobuo Uematsu and Kenji Ito. These games are becoming more and more like console stuff.

Does the appstore wish list work like App Shopper? As in, will I get a notification when something Ive put in my wish list goes on sale?

If you haven't played it yet on other platforms, X-Com.

If you like boardgames, you bought the definitive device :)

There are plenty, and many are really really good; plus you can enjoy the sweetness of async play with those.
Obviously different than playing with a bunch of friend around a table, but still great (especially if playing with people you know) and very convenient you have a 'life'.

I do not know your tastes so this is by NO means a comprehensive list...just some different boardgames I like on the platform.

Carcassonne
Elder Signs: Omens
Battle of the Bulge
Warhammer Quest

I suggest you look the monthly OP first post...go back 4-5 months...to see the best recent releases.

Enjoy!

You may want to check out next week realeases:

Drive on Moscow (from Battle of the Bulge creators)
Lords of Waterdeep (Playdek devs with their huge Dungeon&Dragons franchise)

Device 6 and Year Walk. Both amazing, trust me.

Boardgame-wise coming next week is Lords Of Waterdeep which should be good (also look for Agricola and Ticket To Ride).
I'd recommend Ascension with the caveat that the licence is up sometime in 2014 so multiplayer support will disappear then.

And this thread iOS Online Boardgaming Megathread is worth a look too.

Does anyone in Tiny Death Star have issues finding bitizens with 9 points in Retail? I must have cycled through a few hundred bitizens by now and I haven't seen a single one. Wondering if there's a bug or whether I'm just fiercely unlucky.

And yeah, Nimblebit properly stingy with Bux this time round, but never mind, they'll come eventually I guess, I just may never get that ultimate elevator!

So Baldur's Gate 2 should come out on iPad soon enough, I can't wait to finally have something meaty to get into, iOS has been a bit lacklustre this past few months, I don't think I've played a proper game since XCOM maybe, with the exception of Device 6 which I still need to finish.

Come on devs, give me something other than a platformer or a F2P grind game.

YES! iOS GAF, check Oceanhorn out:

It's really, really good, controls are great, gameplay is fun, very Zelda-y. Definitely worth checking out.

The MP version of Talisman is on Steam now, iOS version can't be far behind.

The board games on the iPad are so nice when you can not play with people irl. I have a closet full of games (50+) but my time is limited with a newborn for now. The iPad has been my saving grace!

When is it coming? Do you know? I agree though, need more meaty games!

Seriously, Oceanhorn is that good. It's not GameLoft quality. It's full fledged.

Soon, I gather. PC release is today. I can't wait.

Yeah, I'm very tempted by it but I lost the Zelda-love during the first DS game. It was so boring, and I started to realise that playing a game where I knew exactly what was going to happen next wasn't my kind of fun.

Does Oceanhorn have any kind of unique spin to make it not just Zelda? How deep is it, what are the puzzles like? It has been a good while since I played one, I could maybe see myself giving it a go.

In short, it's Wind Waker on iOS. The controls are about 95% perfect. The music is phenomenal. The depth is about where the GBA Zelda's were at. The world is broken up into islands, some small, some larger. Even the biggest I've gotten to is fairly small, but dense with content.

Basically, the question of whether or not to get Oceanhorn should really only depend on one question. Can you enjoy a game that is a flawless rendition of the most famous game series of all times? If you can, get it.

If you're going to be punching your iPhone/iPad when you discover that you have to go find the 3 pieces of the magic amulet that broke apart (and of which you're the owner of one of those pieces) while searching for heart containers and throwing clay pots at Chu-Chus, then don't.

Where GameLoft pushes out hastily made copies that are akin to Game Informer envelope art, whoever made Oceanhorn (some sort of wolf logo, who gives a shit) is more like the dude who spends hours copying the masters to get his technique just right.

It's a great game and if they had decided to break away from the Zelda thievery, it would easily be the best game on iOS. Like, ever. That adherence to taking everything Zelda has done holds it back, because goddamn is it ever fucking blatant.

But everything else about it is straight 10/10.

Okay, QuizUp is the shit.

They nailed exactly what a trivia game on mobile should be. Matches are almost instantaneous and run at the perfect length, you can complete a match before the line/poop/whatever ends, so it's great for multitasking and on-the-go gaming. The categories and general quality of the questions are great as well, but I did start to see some repeats throughout the night. That will be less of a problem as more content is added, though. It's a contender for my mobile game of the year.

On a different note, I've finally disabled notifications for Tiny Death Star. It was fun while it lasted, but I've reached the point where I can't do anything but gradually add new floors without purchasing bux. Expected, but disappointing none the less.

What do you mean with 95% perfect controls? I don't even know how it controls, is it with a virtual stick?

Other question, are there any top down games (rpg/strategy/action) that have tap-to-move controls?

Hey iOS GAF, new here.

So i got myself a new phone, the old one was with a broken glass, so i was out of iOS games for a few months.

What should i check out? All first posts from June - check. Anything? :)

Aaaaand, how's Slayin? Rogue Legacy like or not?

As in, the controls are pretty much console pad feel, with a few minor quirks. Not perfect like Street Fighter IV Volt, but close. There is either an invisible virtual stick or tap to move.

Anyone else tried Tank Nations yet? Its a freemium, but its rather fun. Reminds me of the good ol' days of playing Gunbound, just without the cutesy music.

Leaving in an hour on a long trip, need some good games that run well on a 4G iPod Touch. Any recommendations? Have played the hell out of the Half Brick games.

Oooh, Oceanhorn looks above and beyond impressive. Quite transparent that it draws immediate inspiration from the Zelda series, specifically Wind Waker. And thats just fine, because WW is my favorite 3D Zelda. :) Impulse buy incoming.

Juggling all of these iOS games is overwhelming, so many quality/fun titles to play on the go.

The game is simple; Jump from the tallest cliff on Mount Never Rest and dodge incoming objects to avoid taking damage. Fly through the rugged landscapes of Mount Never Rest and feel the adrenalin pumping through your veins. The more danger your expose yourself to the more points you get.

This is really good. It's like a minimalist mix of that classic Helicopter game and Solipskier. You base jump off the summit and must survive as long as possible, while collecting stars and smashing through gates to keep your velocity. Obstacles range from craggy terrain and narrow passes, to birds, hot air balloons, ans helicopters, to rock slides. It has the great "one-more-go" level of addictiveness, with responsive controls and a nice visual style.

This image explains the game nicely

I'm actually stupid, but I bought Oceanhorn. It reminds me too much of Wind Waker and it is one of my favourite games ever.

So far stuck on second island, but more impressions coming tomorrow. I am afraid that due to the game size it mainly plays by the strength of the opening chapter and gets very disappointing overall, but we'll see. It looks fantastic and at times seems to run at 60 frames per second. What negatively stands out at the moment is the movement. I don't think floating joystick works here. Very tiring.

Is 72,500 players on its leaderboards the actual number of people who bought it?

Yup we did! Glad you like it, we're adding more content soon.

Do you want a promo code for Chicken Boy?
I've been playing Chicken Boy the last few days after being generously passed a promo code. I've got to say that I'm very impressed. I really enjoyed the previous Help Me Fly from the developers and was initially disappointed with Chicken Boy as it was completely different style. I found it very difficult at the beginning and thought I wouldn't bother giving it another go, but glad I did. I'm now on the third world (of four) and finding it a really good fast-paced action game.

If anyone wants a new short-burst game I'd recommend it.
