Bravely Default Demo Out Now on European E-Shop

Using an S rank Rod on my Black Mage but I've yet to find anything else without just neutral rank on her yet. Might have been that shield slowing her down, I'll remove it and see.

Sure thing! :)

Edit: Without the shield I'll sometimes go first, but not always. Just had 4 of them run away before I got a chance to strike, for example. When the battle before I got in my attack before they could make a move. Weird.

I guess you can use other classes and then put black magic as a job command, if you are trying to prioritise speed.

They must have something else going for them, since in this job system you can master White Mage, then change to Black Mage and still use Level 3 White Magic spells (Or vice versa).

They havedecent melee also, not great though, as someone else said jack of all trades, just like every other Red Mage class in Final Fantasy.

In the demo their support abilities seemed pretty crap tbh.

Isn't one of them "dodge an attack to get BP"?
If you want to know the demo breaker combo it's
everyone with the black mage job + Ninja at max level with Ninja abilities (evade an attack to get +25% Atk/M.Atk and the Red Mage's evade to get BP one, use that Ninja spell to dodge the next attack with everyone.
You won't ever need to heal as you'll dodge everything AND you'll get damage buff as well as BP with that Red Mage ability.

In the western dungeon/cave, there's an Adventurer that says 'It'll only gets worse from here in'. Is there a secret passage or hidden floor, because I can't seem to go further than there.

Oh yes, that reminds me, secret passages DO exist in this game! Most of them can be found by trying to walk off the left/right/bottom sides of the screen, with one exception that requires you to walk northwards. Fortunately, it's not THAT big a pain in the ass to find them, because
the Supine job has a skill that shows you a count of how many treasure chests remain unopened within a screen.

Is there a way to 'control' time in this game? I hate having to wait for Night time to fall, in Dragon Quest 8, you could even rest in Inns until night fall but this isn't the case with the demo at least.
Waiting for night and to go against the imps is a bore tbh.

Hah I was trying to think of a subtitle just like that.

Oh and glad to see Jobs have higher levels in the full game it did feel a little odd that they capped at 4, especially with my Red Mage only being able to use Rank 1 B&W spells.

So hype and looking forward to the full game X3.

Played the demo a bit last night. The art syle is fantastic for everything, especially the environments. It's obvious the production values for this thing are threw the roof, but ehhhh, that combat system and structure. I can safely say I hate it.

What is bad about the combat system ?

Is it boring because it is just the start of the game and a demo or generally it sucks so bad that would be bad for the actual whole game ?

I wish i could play the demo, the region locking is such a terrible decision

You can give them the Job Command but you can't give them the specialty that is tied to the Job. Red Mages have a 25% chance to get +1BP when they take damage.

Stats wise they are different to the other mages as well. (When changing jobs there is a Stat Changes tab in the lower screen for comparisons).
Red Mages have an A rank in Swords (Black has S in Rod, White has S in Staff).
They have B in a lot of weapons while the other two are mostly in the E's.
Red Mages have C in Shields, Helms and Armor.
Red Mages have lower Int score but slightly higher in a lot of other areas such as dex, agil, str, etc.

I suspect they will unlock some useful passive abilities later, even if the class itself is not that great.

Battle mages eh? I'm all in!

I like the 3D on the 3DS. Great use of it here, the demo has sold me on the title big time.

The 3D in this game is the best I've ever seen. I'm loving this demo, just beat the turtle boss now.

I'm not sure whether or not I should play the demo. On the one hand it'll let me know why I've been hyping something I know litttle about but on the other hand I like playing a game after buying it and going in blind.

If you're already committed to buying it, then just wait.

Well if it helps, the demo quests are different from the final build.

How many extra villagers can you get from the main town? Because I just talked to some guy and he gave me an extra villager; I had no idea that was possible.

Lv14 is "MASTER". You can get a
Job Point Up
(really minor gameplay spoiler) support ability (pretty self-explanatory) by raising the Freelancer Job to Lv10. It's not that great, but I set it almost all the time. I only removed it temporarily after losing to the same boss over a dozen times.

What? My Freelancer became MASTER at level 4. How do I get it to 10 for that ability?

Got all of my heroes to master level in four jobs each. Grinding the western cave with at least one Valkyrie and the attack that hits all enemies makes it so easy.
Fun game but I'll skip this one in Cavour of completing FF9, P4G and Grandia first.

Is there no downside to assigning a command ability that is outside your job? Like I give a Red Mage jump, for instance? I couldn't find anything about that in the in game description. Also, giving White Mages Black Mage spells or something.

You only get 2 in the demo, one for the start, another after beating the demo.

Job levels are capped at 4 in this demo.

Not really it encourages mix and matching abilities tbf.

It feels really bland. The combat animations are really basic, as are the character models. The system for Brave and Default is pretty complicated as well but not really fun. I dunno it might just be my personal tastes, but everything else about the game is solid.

It's not really complicated at all if you spend a little bit of time adjusting to it and trying to understand it. In fact a lot of different play styles open up because of it, it definitely didn't seem bland to me at all.

What's the max character level in the demo? I already feel way overpowered (in that I can have the game set to Auto, enter a new area I've never been and watch as my guys just hit the enemies to death before they do anything)

20, if you go to the beach near the south tower, you'll reach it pretty quickly.

So I died for the first time last night. I took on the 3rd boss and he was strong... T T My party is Knight, White Mage, Valkyrie and Sword Master. I could always get him down to around half life, but when he started going all out he'd one shot people and it was the beginning of the end. In the end I finally started using my knight as he's meant to be, skipping his damage and making him tank every hit, but for the first couple of tries it was a pretty challenging fight. :) I really do enjoy the battle system in this game, makes victory feel so rewarding. :)

Just beat the turtle. Defaulting for 5 rounds to wait until Reflek vanishes and then going all out with Icera killed it in one go. The first boss was much harder.

As far as animations go, I think they are a throwback to oldschool FFs, so they can seem a little odd-but character models seem really great to me, in fact they are the best I've seen in a Jrpg on 3DS.

Is a high or max level required for the last boss?

I killed the 4th boss on level 11, but I have a feeling the last one will require a much higher level :p

Are there anything else to do after defeating the turtle boss? I Don't see any quests pop up.

Eidt: I guess I'll take the fairy's line about strolling around town at night as a hint.

Tedious maybe, but I wouldn't say bland.

If its too easy crank that difficultly up in the settings.

Agree, the costumes look amazingly detailed.

The demo has left me feeling very confident that this will be a great buy. Love the visuals, art direction and 3D implementation, love the job system (very FFV), love the brave/default mechanic and the flow of battles, and how status effects actually matter and also auto battles/battle speed adjustments = god send. Yeah, I'm in love :P

i really love this game but i have one question:
how can you use magic?
i already bought the thandara(?) and wind spell from the shop and have a black mage on level 3.
when i choose magic, black magic is not clickable...

That's odd, once you buy the spells they are automatically learned and can be used, provided your job level is up to snuff. Do you have 'Black Magic Lv3' on your ability list?
