Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

snake is fucking awesome and if he isn't in smash 4 i'll be sad

But he's in Brawl. Isn't Brawl shit? Doesn't that make Snake automatically shit too?

Yeah if being part of Nintendo's biggest crossover doesn't just justify his part in "Nintendo History" or whatever people want as a justification for character appearing the I don't know what else to say.

The MGS universe fit pretty well within smash, it brought an unexpected and unorthodox fighter to the mix, don't see what's wrong with it.

He doesn't pass my litmus test.

But as others have gleefully pointed out, my opinion doesn't matter. I don't think he clashes aesthetically, I just think he muddles the games focus.

That's funny, because I haven't seen a solid reason to get rid of him outside of silly fanboy "purity" nonsense.

Biased MGS fans and Nintendo clerics clash, NEWS @ 11.

Sakurai has a bunch of friends in the industry, but do you think if the creator of some low budget indie game wanted his character in Smash Bros. Sakurai would just go ahead and surrender? Of course not. Kojima's request instigated the process, but it was not the only factor. Solid Snake happens to be one of the most well-known video game characters from one of the most popular video game series.

No, I don't think Sakurai would put any random character in. Kojima is lucky that his character was popular enough for his request to even be considered. The history behind Snake's inclusion is important. It wasn't Sakurai's idea to include Snake, and he wasn't the most requested third party character by fans either, without Kojima's involvement it is easy to assume that he would have never been added to the roster.

None of those quotes suggest that Sakurai thinks Snake is a fixture of the series. Some people take offense to the idea of a potential cut, but the possibility is there considering Sakurai has expressed the desire to limit third party characters, and on top of that, he has already hinted that some characters may not be returning.

“I think I can say generally that there won’t be a trend of adding a lot of third-party characters,” Sakurai says. “You can sort of think of Mega Man as being the special case.”

"We don’t have the time to fully recreate every single character who’s been in Smash Bros at this point"

On the other hand, you can spin and interpret those quotes entirely different. They're too ambiguous to be considered deconfirmations of any characters.

“I think I can say generally that there won’t be a trend of adding a lot of third-party characters,” Sakurai says. “You can sort of think of Mega Man as being the special case.”

Could mean Mega Man is the special case of the only third-party newcomer to be added to the game, for instance. Since Sonic returns, other third-parties are not out of the question, and since Snake already has been in Brawl, he already has the precedence - he doesn't need to be "added", he's already part of the Smash family.

"We don’t have the time to fully recreate every single character who’s been in Smash Bros at this point"

Might as well mean they're not gonna bring back Roy, Dr. Mario, Pichu or Mewtwo. Nothing about this suggests that Snake is gonna get cut.

Sure. I just wanted to barf up some quotes, too.

Still though, there is nothing that suggests that Sakurai thinks Snake is important to the franchise overall and not just some one-off character.

Just like there's nothing that suggests that Sakurai is going to cut him.

Sakurai developing an immunity to Kojima's tears would be bad news for metal gearheads.

I wouldn't really care for Snake unless Hayter was back to voice him. Seems like that bridge is burned barring any Kojima shenanigans, though.

To those who are suggesting Lucario to be cut off and be replaced with Mewtwo (and using the mega evolution as an excuse to be new)...

Fuck off! Lucario is like the only shining example of a Pokemon not originating from Generation 1.

I think that Snake should be replaced by Bomberman.

Bomberman can kick bombs , punch them , make them bounce and make them grow.

He also has the detonator bomb that is movable and could have mechanic where his bomb explosion range increases and even he could get caught in the explosion by being reckless just like real game.(He could also have mechanic for Speed Up and to increase the number of bombs that he has.)

He is a neat character that I think would bring like a reckless style of play but would be very fun to mess around with.

In a ideal world , Snake would appear to do some attack then gets bomb kicked at him that explodes in his face then Bomberman appears with new challenging approaching appears. They could make mention of his nickname " The White Bomber".

Bomberman has many colors already that are legit like Black Bomber and all Gold Bomberman.

I really don't think that he would be character that is on Sakurai's mind at all though , he was popular with long history but he was niche at the same time.In his death , many didn't really care that he was gone and moved on without any feelings toward him. For me I was like Hudson gamer and would follow them at any console that game was made on but nothing lives forever. :(

One final appearance in smash would do it for me and I would stop resenting Konami so much but I am already starting to hate them more for ignoring indie group Labzero with patches for their game.In the end they had to like cut ties with Konami to have future with the game on consoles.

My newcomer list:

1.Ridley
2.Anthony
3.Lucina
4.Palutena
5. Female PKMN Trainer
6.Takamaru
7.Ghirahim
8.Toon Zelda
9.Mega Mewtwo Y
10.Little Mac

No one will be in this game. ;_;

lol bomberman is dead

I expect Solid Snake will not be returning. He was more fun to use than some of the other characters, but I wouldn't cry over his removal.

My List

Actually have a decent chance list

Palutena
Hades
Ghirahim
Shulk
Skyward Zelda
Takamaru
Rosalina, Waluigi, or Daisy
Great Sacred Treasures Pit and Pitoo voice set

My real "wish" list despite being very unlikely

Captain N
Mike Jones
Wreck-it Ralph
Geno and/or Neku just for giggles for Geno really. An S-E Rep that isn't Lightning would be nice.
Viridi and/or other Uprising characters
Riki and/or other Xenoblade characters.

I love Snake and hope he returns together with a stage. Having Shadow Moses from Brawl playable would also be fine. As a character he brings much needed diversity to Smash.

As far as other Nintendo characters, maybe there could be a kind of generic "Nintendo man" that transforms into different characters on an attack by attack basis? That way we could have playable cameos for many smaller characters, as well as bigger characters for his final smash?

Do you guys think it could work? Kind of like how AGES in Sonic Racing Transformed can change shape and represent many franchises.

Not a bad idea. I could see this happening.

Still doing the list thing? Awesome.

Working on the assumption that every Brawl character returns (which is up in the air but for ease of discussion):

1) Little Mac
2) Mii
3) Ridley
4) Dixie Kong
5) Ayumi Tachibana
6) Takamaru
7) Tingle
8) Palutena
9) Samurai Goroh
10) Lucina

The top three are the only characters I'd be disappointed to see not show up... and I'm starting to feel Lucina as a quality alternate costume would be better than standalone. I'd be most excited to see ANY random Japanese retro character show up, though. Ayumi Tachibana, Sabure Prince, Donbe & Hikari, Lip... Sheriff would be cool, too.

My real want is more reps for more series but the problem is I'd be happy with ANY of them. Isaac or Shulk, Dillon or Mallo, Ray MKV or Chibi Robo, as long as they're fresh faces I'd be happy to see them.

My top ten probable newcomers:

1 - Ridley
2 - Little Mac
3 - Paper Mario
4 - Dixie Kong
5 - Pac-Man
6 - Palutena
7 - Krystal
8 - Isaac
9 - Shulk
10 - Chrom
(with returning Mewtwo, which is not really a newcomer)

Though my wishlist is more akin to:

1 - Ridley
2 - Little Mac
3 - Paper Mario
4 - Dixie Kong
5 - Bomberman
6 - Anything from Advance Wars
7 - King K. Rool
8 - Isaac
9 - Tingle
10 - Geno

Only two whose absence would seriously disappoint me are Ridley and Little Mac.

I wonder, is there any other character that could evoke the reaction that Snake did in 2006? I'm guessing not, because a large part of that was due to the revelation of third party characters being a factor. Even so, what other characters might get that kind of fevered response?

I would have thought Mega Man would do it, but I was wrong. In hindsight I think that's because he seemed so likely to the point where some people were even taking it for granted. A character to really blow minds would need to be something nobody had expected.

Banjo-Kazooie? I think no one would expect it coming since it's Microsoft IP now.

Yeah, many people really want to see Mega Man in Smash but we're not sure of it's fate since we know how Capcom took good care of it.

My wishlist for Smash 4:

1) Professor Layton with the most amazing moveset ever.
2) A bunch of supporting characters from Nintendo Games which are not Ridley, Palutena or King K Rool.

Yeah that would be a surprise, all right... lol. I'm not sure if Banjo/Kazooie are popular enough though to really make people go nuts
and bolts
. Maybe that's just me (although I was a huge BK fan on N64).

Well, I think hardcore Nintendo fans would be surprised by this announcement, but that's it. It wouldn't shook the community as Snake did.

Speaking of Capcom, I wonder how Mega Man ended up in Smash.

- Nintendo: "Hey Capcom, we think MegaMan was a big part of Nintendo history, so we'd like to put it in one of our most successful franchise. And we want him to look like he looked on NES."

- Capcom: "Sure, we don't give a fuck about him anymore."

- Nintendo: "Thank you Capcom"

\.

It depends who the people are, and how widely known the characters are. I can think of of a few who would get a super hyped response, but it in a different way because it would becoming from different types of fans.

I can think of a few that would get some people in an uproar if it ever happened.

I dunno, that's so un-Capcomy. They'd probably make it like a hostage situation.

I'd actually argue Mega Man fits the bill, we just didn't get much reaction since no E3 presence.

* Meanwhile while get astronomical amouts of funds to fund RE7 and Deep Down and NOT the next street fighter and marvel*

Ninendo: hey capcom , can we use megaman.

Capcom: oh yeah sure 2 doors down left top shelf.

Nintendo: Neat, what are you up to

Cpacom: making block busters

Nintendo: wouldn't that require you to make profits off of large projects like these.

Capcom: Profits?

Nintendo: That explains alot, anyways thanks for the character.

IMO, Snake doesn't belong in Smash Brothers. He's completely out of place within that world.

BUT the fact that he's there ANYWAY is what makes him so awesome.

To be honest, Mega Man's inclusion in Smash pretty much perfectly fits in line with Capcom's approach to handling Mega Man and its fanbase in recent years. It just happens to be something people actually wanted instead of their usual approach of dropping fecal matter on everyone's heads.

It's something designed to "appease" fans of the series, while not actually requiring almost any work or spending of any money. Capcom probably begged Nintendo to put Megs in this one.

The fact that this one worked out might be blamed entirely on Sakurai's insistance to try to go for as classic a megaman as possible.

What are the chances of Ike and Falco getting in?

Falco? Well since Toon Link got in and Falco has been there for 2 games already... Very likely.

Ike? Very likely too, he's a unique character, not a clone so I can't imagine Sakurai cut him just because unless there's time restraints.
