I'm sure they're deserving, but people can't be so sure of that so soon after release, can they? And why no PS4 entries?

The problem with smash is that it is more of the same (which isn't bad by any means) but every game on that list is a new IP (Watch Dogs, Destiny, Titanfall, South Park) or radically changing the previous games formula (Witcher).

That's a fairly big cop out. Being a sequel doesn't by nature hurt the anticipation for a game, it often increases it.

imo most anticipated list should have been Destiny, Titanfall, Smash4, MGSV, and Dark Souls 2

Good for them for giving an indie dev a nod on the Studio of the Year front, but at some point they need to honor Nintendo again in some capacity in terms of Development. 3D World, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, etc. all within 1 year. Even if they zeroed in on a very specific studio within NCL, one should still have been rewarded.

I find it kind of sad that there is only one exclusive game for Best PlayStation and none for Best Xbox. Multiplatform games are good, but these lists make it look like there are no 1st party titles in either camp, except TLoU which ended up being the best game of the year, if not generation imho.

I'm thinking a TLoU sweep is incoming.

I think we go through the "Why is an unreleased game on the nomination list?" thing every year.

For better or worse, the judges only nominate games they have played, and they have had access to all these games (even the unreleased ones) for enough time that they feel comfortable nominating them. The embargo is tomorrow, they've had the game for likely over two weeks now, probably more.

Seriously they should've just lumped the two roles together, we're voting on best voice actor, not best performance, and if we thought he did a great job as whatever roles we heard whether it was Joel in Last of Us, Booker in Bioshock Infinite, or Rattlesnake in Skylanders Swap Force (a finger in every pie!) then it be based on him, not the characters.

Admittedly though I do agree that the Joel performance was his best, Booker was just standard Troy Baker, but Joel was more distinctive and better at conveying his various states.

I hope you're being serious! Because I am! Tomb Raider was just pure fun. The combat is honestly the best third person combat in any game, standing right next to Gears.

Does it have faults? Yes. The ending falls apart. The secondary characters are completely forgettable. The pseudo-open world doesn't really work.

But that doesn't matter when, as you're playing it, you're having an absolute blast. And at the end of the day, isn't fun what it's really all about? If that makes me simple, then I will gleefully be simple.

The poll isn't the final say anyway, only the most anticipated one is pure voter driven and it kind of sounds like a lot of people are voting South Park anyway though I expect something like Titanfall or Destiny may win (I voted Witcher 3.) They probably only take the poll results into consideration, or treat it collectively as an extra journalist vote.

Because I know for a fact, if MGSV got nominated, it would have more votes than South Park, plus MGSV will definitely sell more. Pretty sure most people can agree on this. Also aside from a minority people do seem pretty up on that game to say the least.

Anyway It's just a nebulous category to me highlighted by the fact that South Park is on there.

Voted for SM3DW. Haven't played it of course, but I don't really care for any of the other entries. Having to choose between Zelda, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing for best handheld is a lot harder though. Ended up just going with Pokemon.

Disappointing to see handhelds getting left out from GOTY lists yet again, especially considering how well Fire Emblem and Zelda have been reviewed. Tearaway is also getting a ton of praise so far. I know Zelda and Tearaway are in the handheld category, but they shouldn't be isolated there.
