Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | November 2013 | Tearaway into a new world

Started Muramasa Rebirth. Amazing graphics and soundtrack so far.

It was posted earlier in the thread, but check out the Aksys store (link) for $5 deals on either a Muramasa fan+soundtrack or lithograph+soundtrack deal in support of Philippine disaster relief.

EDIT: Top of the page recommendation = Crazy Market. Hilarious voices and damn catchy music. MONEY-MONEY!

I believe the exact opposite. Remote Play will essentially reduce any AAA title coming to VITA since we can already play it on VITA through a PS4, theoretically.

I don't see any upcoming AC, COD or similarly big AAA western franchise coming to VITA. I do hope that Japanese support remains strong or decent enough.

You can't reduce from zero.

I'm "stuck" in Muramasa because I keep trying to beat this one level 9 trial without getting hit (for trophy reasons, of course). It consists entirely of those monk dudes, but I can never beat it without getting hit. I keep retrying for maybe an hour and then get sad and switch to Ninja Gaiden or Spelunky (games that I also am not progressing much in either).

Any AAA title can come to the Vita, and thats the issue here, the install base, Boyes thinks RP will help it grow, leading to developers being more comfortable bringing those to the system, and while I dont believe that RP alone will make a significant impact, the 2000 model and its various color variations and VitaTV can definetly help that,
a price drop on the memory cards would help too,
but thats if Sony releases those here.

Other than that, i agree, japanese support has been pretty good for the system, and it would be pretty nice if Sony used some of its IPs, because some of them would be perfect for Vita and actually market them

Exploit your wetstones and ninja arts whenever they attack, you're completely invincible.

Been getting into the Tale series lately. It's becoming my favorite after Final Fantasy and Pogeymang.

I hope Scamco has some soul and either localize or make more tales games for the Vita.

Do games (like Tearaway) that don't come out on Tuesday, and thus with the store update, hit the store around midnight or is it likely to be some random time on Friday?

I believe Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate was released on Friday and showed up on PSN early that morning.

The article is a little bit worrying but I really feel like the Vita is in it for the long haul and will have a lifespan right along with PS4 since they're closely tied. Some major PSP games like Peace Walker were released like 5 years into the console'a lifespan so Vita could have a lot on the horizon.

Games like Peace Walker came from previous successes on the Portable Ops.

he believes RP will help sell the Vita and with that will come real Vita games that arent ports

The problem with that line of thinking is that the owners coming in via Remote Play didn't buy a Vita to play native software. If hardware sales suddenly increase without native software getting a bump I doubt third parties will look at investing in the platform.

If Sony starts to announce more games for the Vita (1st party), people will get pissed off that they aren't investing enough on the PS4.

The best thing they should do is outsourcing some of their IP's to smallers studios and try to get some 3rd party exclusives (aka buying). Making 2014 pretty good. That + indie games can help the Vita.

Four days since I bought my vita, first game impressions:

Rayman Origins: awesome, rayman backgrounds + oled are beautiful.

Hotline Miami: brutal,my most played game for now.

Gravity Rush: I don't know...I'm early in the game but I thought it was better, a ton of jaggies everywhere.

Sine Mora: great visuals and gameplay, it's awesome.

Uncharted: pretty visuals but the game is boring as hell, I think the Uncharted formula is getting pretty old.

One thing is bugging me a lot is the Mura effect...particularly on the Sine Mora's loading screens, it's like my display is all green!

i dont believe people are just going to buy the Vita for RP only, at most it's something that just made them take the plunge, but thats something we have to wait and see in the coming months, and then theres the question of what the multicolored 2000 model and VitaTV can do to the situation if Sony decides to release them in the west

Do you have high contrast vision? O_O

Images that pop up around the net showing the effect are green, but that's because they've been adjusted in photoshop to illustrate the effect. Normally it should just look like a lighter black on black.

I'll try to take a picture! maeby my screen is defective :S But it's only noticeable on loading screens...

Awww man. I just obliterated my SSD endless highscore, and it didn't save. So salty.

Ended up moving over to Delta controls once I found I could stop the motion camera controls, it's forced my to change the way I hold my Vita which is probably a good thing, because I sort of ignored the back touchpad for the most part up until now.

The main issue I have is that they all sort of blend together, making it hard to see their usually clearly telegraphed attacks. A secondary one is that the majority of the swords I have apparently have crap special attacks (that's what you meant by ninja arts, right?). Many of them seem to end with me landing and vulnerable for a split second, but it's always in that split second that I get hit. :/

How far are you in the game? I've gotten all the equipment and swords so It's best to leave some stuff for when you're finished in the game. I didnt get the No damage on a boss while until the first boss in fury mode anyway.

As I wrote previously, Muramasa to me is best played in short bursts. I like the visuals, graphics and the feel of your attacks connecting, but it's for the most part rather repetitive. Worst is when you just RUN through screens that serve no purpose outside of a possible random battle encounter.
Still the structure of the game works best on a handheld like the Vita IMO.

Anyways I need help with Momohime's story
I just made it to hell and am fighting the Demon Boss, any tips to beating him more easily?

So I started P3P on easy. 10 hours in with the female protagonist the month is June or July and Tartarus is STILL a pain in the ass even on easy lol

Really? The dungeons were such a bore to me in P4G and almost made me stop playing the game, so I decided to start P3P on easy so I could breeze through them and get back to the social parts. Maybe I should go all the way down to very easy if its really that annoying.

Haven't beaten either story yet (though I have on the Wii version). I'm currently attempting this on the Final Act of Kisuke, Chaos difficulty.

Fuck you Magusar >:(

Green is defective. Take it back. Mura is a-okay, but green mura is bad. You should hurry up and replace it. Unless, someone on the board wants to correct me.

Remote Play is useless for me. Laggy, glitchy, and loses connection often. It's not at ALL the competitor to Wii U's Off TV Play I was hoping it would be. It feels like somebody buying an Android phone and putting an iOS launcher on it; Yeah, it may technically have a few more options and be more open, but it's doesn't remotely compete with the seamless and smooth experience of an actual iPhone (note: while this analogy fit, I have and love a Nexus phone with stock Android).

It may work for you, and you, and you over there, but it doesn't work well at all for me and others. That's the point I'm making. It's not a seamless and smooth experience, and the lack of controls, poor analog sticks, and 30fps cap really limit how good it can be.

Are we talking ps3 or ps4 here? Direct connection or wifi?

Pretty sure the only difference is you get 10 lives on Very Easy. Anyway, I love the social parts of this game but Tartarus sucks. I enjoy the battles but only in short bursts lol.

I've heard a lot of good impressions, maybe it's something you can improve?

Other than direct connection or not - is the PS4 hooked up via LAN cable to the router? (if not - check out powerline adapters which are cheap and pretty magical plus easy to set up).

Vita on max bars? Tried disabling wifi on power saving mode?

Router is decent?

Is it crap even on direct connection? :-(

PS4. Doesn't give you an option which way to connect, but I have direct connection enabled in the PS4 settings.

Hmm, don't want to be annoying but are you close are you to the ps4 when trying out direct connection? It won't be that great outside of the room I don't imagine? Tried disabling the direct connection setting.

Sucks dude, I can tell you aren't ecstatic with your PS4 at the moment, would be good to at least get remote play working nice.

I bought the original game back in the PS2 era. Played around 12 hours (Normal) and yes the dungeon crawling made me extremely bored with it. I really liked the atmosphere, maybe I will get again on Vita and play on Super Easy. It doesn't have the FES content, right? :(

I thought I had disabled that WiFI on Power Saving mode thing but it was checked so I'll check it out (Edit: Didn't make a difference). Router is great, Vita is on max bars, I'm about 5 feet away from the PS4, and 20 feet away from the router. But I do have PS4 connected wirelessly to the router. I suppose I could get a powerline adapter. Worth a shot.

I don't know man. I mean, I really love a lot of things about the PS4. I love that it's so powerful, the OS is fast and has a good amount of features, it's social, sharing/streaming is a breeze, and with Sony's first party studios, the outlook on games is healthy. But Remote Play was one of my biggest features; you and others probably know it was one that I was most hyped about, so I guess that's why it stings so bad that it's not what I hoped it would be.

Yeah I can imagine that would suck if it wasn't working nice - being so close to the PS4 it seems unlikely that the wifi power-saving setting will help but worth a shot of course.

I would definitely recommend powerline adapters as they are pretty cheap and easy (it's an electrical plug with a lan cable slot! get one near your router, one near the ps4 - can be had for little and they are very fast - usually sync automatically).

I think what is happening is despite you having it on direct connection, it's connecting via the router as the PS4 can't go online while your Vita is connected to it via Wifi. - I'm not sure about this. But possibly? Since the PS4 can't use wifi to both connect to the router AND to the Vita. Wish I had a PS4 to test it.

As a test, just to see if it can actually work nice - try turning off the router (not internet connection), and not connecting online for any games to just try direct connection to ps4 and see if it's a true direct connection. I'm hoping that would at least work nice and if so, might be worth checking out the adapters.

I think this is your issue. You can't do a direct connect while your PS4 is using wifi, so you must be doing Vita > router > PS4.

Try using an ethernet cable if you can, or turn the Wifi off on your PS4 to get a direct connect and then try it again.

That is very interesting. I did not know that, and it could definitely make a difference. Thanks guys, I'll see if I can invest in those powerline adapters soon. I have always been interested in them but never got around to getting any.

It doesn't have "The Answer" which from what I've heard on the internet is a good thing lol. Also no cutscenes or 3D overworld. Coming from P4G I don't really mind the last 2. I mean I wish they were in but I don't think it's not worth picking up because of that.

Excellent that there is a chance at least, hope it works out okay!

In a little while Sony should pump out some proper explanation videos as I can imagine soooooooooooo many people not having it working like they want to, networking being a bit of a bitch and all too. Those charts were not enough for sure.

whether you use direct connection or the wireless access point it's still over 2.4ghz so if you live in a busy wifi environment then the channel it's using could be overshared with other networks. if the ps4 and vita were both wireless (ps4 not connected via ethernet) using an access point then it's sending it over the air twice so direct connection is preferable in that instance (ps4 communicates over 2.4ghz directly with the Vita). it sounds like you can't customize it much on the ps4 or see what channel it's using

I'm guessing the Wii U gamepad uses 5ghz which has a shorter range but is more suited to locations with many overlapping 2.4ghz devices

Yeah, I think Wii U gamepad using 5GHz is a big advantage for it, at least right now while so few devices use that band.

Gotta have that 18+ version huh ( ・´ー・`)
Yeah, heh, non-adult romance games are a hard sell to me, unless they've got some unique hook like Photo Kano kiss's photography system.

Well, I do play games based on anime, and some of those are romance-ish, but I get those when I'm already enamored with the characters from the show and will take whatever I can get.
Anime-license games (and Ys) are the whole reason I own a PSP, and Vita seems to have smoothly stepped in to take over that role, so the future of the system looks good from my perspective, in contrast to some of the doom and gloom in this thread. :P

Vita has been such a good match for VNs, CGs pop on that OLED/high ppi + playing in bed

The game announcement that finally pushed me into getting a Vita is the Ro-Kyu-Bu! game coming out next year. Looks like that's going to be my first 2D illustrated game for Vita.

The PS4 thread had a link to an article which shows you can change the 2.4ghz channel that it uses over direct connection. On the Vita change Settings -> Network -> Wi-Fi Settings -> Ad Hoc Mode Channel from Automatic to a manual channel. To know the best channel to use though you would need a Wi-Fi network analyzer running on a laptop or mobile device (e.g. Wifi Analyzer on Android, inSSIDer on Windows). It might help to manually set the channel if you're going to continue using direct connection. Else when you've got the ps4 wired it might help to manually set your router 2.4ghz channel if it isn't choosing an optimal one with auto.

If it doesn't disconnect when you standby the app, you can go to the settings app (vita's) and check internet status, the name of the connection should be different from your router, perhaps "PS4" ?

I really think the best bet would be connecting the PS4 directly to the router via cable or powerline adapter tbh - but it's worth testing the direct connection by turning off your router and playing a game offline.

-don't forget to try switching the channel as Shai-Tan explains as well.
