That may be the standard for playing at Tourney's, but that's only to help even the playing field between players. It eliminates as much of the random elements as it can so that raw player power and knowledge prevails.
Also, I play Project M competitively and casually with my friends, but we don't do the banning of stages. We play on whatever stage we feel like playing on. Sometimes we have either some or all items on as well. Depends on our moods. Haha
I made the mistake of simply pointing out that Project M's support is a self interest support. The people making it are the same as those who this mod appeals to so of course it is natural to say these are the right people for Smash for this demographic. However Smash isn't designed to appeal to just this small niche but a larger audience which is a far tougher job.
But I'm not going to take this any further because it was a headache last time with people not reading and just wanting to argue for argument's sake.
agreed. Sakurai is a genius, imo, and without him there would be no Smash. His word may be absolute in the development process but he's only one man and he can make mistakes. So will Project M but it is amazing to see how a segment of a passionate community can create their version of Smash that focuses on all the little nuances of the game. I applaud that shit.

Is there a quick guide out there for Brawl hacking? I love the gameplay changes to Project M (despite overall preferring vanilla Brawl to Melee as an overall package), but I find stuff like the stage and menu changes more than just a bit off putting.

Well Naruto I'm exaggerating a bit. But I'm seriously against having Ridley, K. Rool, or Palutena. For the Metroid franchise, Samus is enough, she's the symbol of the game there's no need to have Ridley or fuckin Kraid to have more Metroid respresentatives.
Kid Icarus is a three game franchise. We don't need another rep. Let's have another one in the next Smash Bros if there's more games.
For Donkey Kong, we already have Donkey and Diddy, if we really need a new character, I think it should be Dixie or Dixie & Kiddy, Ice Climbers Style. I really don't want King K. Rool but tbh, he's the one in these three that makes more sense in Smash imo.
I really like Brawl roster. For me the only bad choice is Wolf. The Starfox franchise is almost dead, we really didn't need Wolf.
So if Nintendo went to say "Hey, we don't want to include lame supporting characters or almost unknown bad guys in Smash Bros, so we include Jump Characters", I'd be ok with that. Seriously. But the best solution for me is to include third party characters important to Nintendo History like Megaman (Belmont, Ryu, or more recently, Professor Layton for exemple). But we won't have that.

Ah now we know why he is one of the most wanted characters, because this game isnt about you, also he is donkey kong's main bad guy, like 98% of playable characters in smash have their virgil/main bad guy on the roster, it makes sense for him to be in for that reason alone.

I think he needs a re-do, ala Fox/Falco/Wolf in brawl. That strange plastic-look does NOT age well.

I don't know how you counted 98% but let's ignore that. The bad guys in Brawl are there because they are iconic, King. K. Rool is not. (Wolf is not either, he shouldn't be in the game)
