Prominent youtuber KSI censors video from Videogamer.com critquing him

Hmmm, seriously, if they weren't in on it, that's foul, but if they were, its a bit over the top, I see where the white knighting comments are coming from, but in this case (provided its not staged)it is necessary.

If you don't like it, you simply say, "Get the fuck away from me" or something equivalent.

I don't see where the 'poor expo women' thing comes into it. They met a douche, and the majority of them probably told him to fuck off. The ones that didn't, he edited into a video.

If he recorded women who didn't want to participate, or consistently harassed them after being told to go away, that would be an issue. Being 'out there' and bold is (and I'm assuming, I don't watch his videos) part of what he does.

I don't want to give anyone involved hits, so can someone condense what this ksi dude? If the above is anything to go back, that's raunchy and straight up harrasment if its not staged..

Yeah and to finish it up he made the cunnilingus gesture to the girl after he said that.

You whiteknights like to paint females as victims and helpless, each had the chance to tell him to piss off and smack him one. One woman did as she clearly felt uncomfortable. Every other one laughed along with him because clearly they realised it was banter.

80% of that didnt look like banter to me, looked a lot like sexual harrasment to me.

That shouldn't stop anyone from calling him out on it.

Matt's response video falls pretty squarely under every fair use law I know of. Also, I don't know for sure, but I don't think KSI even owns the footage.

KSI did a pretty good job defaming his own character.

Ok, that last part is fair. I didn't know that KSI actually had something he called a 'Rape Face'. I think we can all agree that he's a dick.

That said, I still disagree with Lees. His video just comes across as an unnecessary demonization of KSI.

The point remains, KSI (to my knowledge) wasn't stalking women. He wasn't forcing women to appear in his videos. He found some willing participants, and they played along. You just have to deal with people like that, hopefully by telling them to walk in the opposite direction. I think the whole "But won't women be afraid to go to conventions" thing is, frankly, insulting to women.

Would you care to elaborate.

Or are we just using single words?

In what case, "Why" (am I wrong)?

The idea is that he shouldn't be approaching them in that manner in the first place.

And even if he approached men the same way, or women started doing the same shit, that doesn't make it right.

basically, bla bla bla.

Murkster appears to be one of these people who calls people "whiteknight" in an attempt to overcompensate for his own complete lack of ability to think of women as anything other than sex-and-sandwich machines. The same kind of person who calls himself "alpha" because he read a website about how to "neg" women, and has never actually managed to speak to one himself.

And how do you know he didn't? He could have obviously edited the part out where they told him to fuck off. Besides, that doesn't excuse his behaviour, these people are working and having some dude shove a mic in your face and tell you that you have a std while your on camera and a bunch of people are going to see it is pretty humiliating. I don't think anyone deserves that.

That's fine, but I wasn't referring to any copyright laws. Just the simple premise that, if someone uploaded a video featuring my footage that I didn't want uploaded, I should be able to take action in it getting taken down. Clips cut and edited from my video might not do me justice, for instance.

But yeah, I know that copyright law would allow the video to stay up.

Is it really that bad in the UK? To the point where this KSI style behavior is acceptable?

Don't know who this guy is, but these types of controversies are fascinating to me. You have these popular Internet personalities who companies want to leverage, but they are not fit for primetime, so to speak.

Speaks to the industry as a whole, really. Games are a huge business, but so many of gaming's personalities are not fit for public consumption, for a variety of reasons.

woah is neogaf /v/ now

Want to raise a point that I think this is relevant here, there's this sort of new view especially in younger people in Britain that its ok to be a complete dickhead as long as its just "Banter". KSI probably thought what he was doing was just banter, but for me there's a clear difference between being funny (with possible shock value) and just being a twat.

If you want to read up on more of this here are some articles

Again it has this connection with football (Soccer) where many fans feel that it might be expected to act this way, I dunno, just want to show theres more going on here.

I've seen this Lad shit pop on facebook more and more regularly. Some of the stuff can get pretty fucked up. Some people just don't seem to have boundaries.

Because there's no such thing as nervous laughter. That is not an appropriate way to act in public with strangers.

I don't know why totalbiscuit needed to rear his ugly head. I consider that arrogant prick to be in the same category as KSI, another whose head expanded with his subscriber count.

do we know whether he got permission from all the woman appearing in his video to be in his video?

going around shoving a camera in someones face in a strange environment and asking them awkward sexual questions is pretty fucking terrible

It would probably get more traction in /r/games, people don't give a shit about stuff like this in /r/gaming, unless it's a knitted sweater with Link on the front, by your cancer-sick girlfriend who also happens to be attractive.

What? You don't have an attractive, cancer-sick girlfriend that can knit? No problem, just Google search "Link Sweater" and make the rest up! Karma points!

When I was at University that was 80% of the male behaviour I saw. It was disgusting, I'm not saying everyone is like that or that every uni is like that but it wasn't really what I was expecting and seeing as I was (a bit) older than a lot of the males there that kind of behaviour must've passed me by at some point.

Oh wow, because of that copyright strike by KSI, Videogamer are not able to monetize their youtube videos for the next 6 months.

Apparently they have also been in negotiations to join a network, which is now on hold because of KSI's copyright strike.

Matt Lees ‏@Jam_sponge 7m
We've been told we can't join a YT network while there are strikes on our account. Had one lined up, too.

Matt Lees ‏@Jam_sponge 13m
I feel we've done something good today. Still - we remain unable to monetize any of our @YouTube videos for the next six months.

No, sometimes they go along with it because they're feeling intimidated and bullied because they're surrounded by men and a freaking camera.

Check the lyrics to Help Me, Mary by Liz Phair to help you understand how women can feel trapped - it's up to everyone who believes in decency to step in and say stop. http://www.lyricsdepot.com/liz-phair/help-me-mary.html

I'm not trying to claim that frat row at your average university here in the states is any better. It just seems more prevalent and more acceptable in the U.K from an outsider's perspective. Disenfranchised youth and all that jazz.

I agree. It's pretty crass but if it was Sasha Baron Cohen doing it no one would bat an eye-lid. The guy slagging him off in the uploaded video is way more annoying and thinks people that are rude to waiters should be killed (WTF?).

Are copyright strikes invalidated if they are successfully appealed? Because that would really suck if YouTube puts the video back up under FU but their account still remains stricken...
