Persona 5 announced for PS3, winter 2014

I like that all the comments on their youtube video for P5 are all in English.

Yeah, it seems to be like this with their more popular Persona game videos. All in English on Youtube even if it's Japanese, though maybe it's because there are other Nico Nico mirrors for them or something.

I don't understand why people are taking the ball and chain literally. I'm sure the theme will be something more abstract than that like how the masses are "chained" to social networks or something.

Where do you get the....erm......"bubblegum, disney channel XD" feel from?

The colors, the character designs, the music, the chipper highschool atmosphere. It invokes this feeling of bratty teenagers listening to britney spears albums and fighting cute little demons.

I prefer the original 2 games, hands down. I really miss the atmosphere and tone of those titles. They were what got SMT on the radar for me. Now, I can't really see myself ever coming back to the series. But hey, the fans like the new style so as long as people out there are happy then I'm happy for them.

I'm 30 now. I've outgrown JRPGs for the most part, but something about Persona 1/2 just really clicked with me. They had this "dark" edge to them, that's been lost since.

This wait it gonna be hard. So, when are we thinking we'll get more information? Any events coming up that would make sense for more reveals? It'll probably just be a blowout in an issue of Famitsu or Dengeki or the like, I imagine.

This is pretty shallow of me, but I hate how the Persona games are always late on last gen systems. I've kind if wanted to get into the series but Persona 4 came out a couple years after PS3 was released and I had already packed up my PS2. Now they announced 5, and it's like a year out when I'm already in next gen mode.

Have you watched the Persona 5 teaser trailer?

You should probably watch the P5 teaser.

Things that are way too early too talk about but I want to know:

Collector's Edition! Come on, every Persona had one and I hope this one is epiiiiiic!

Cameos! I could see there being a cameo with Chie because she becomes a cop and that would be very easy to put together. Possibilities are endless of course!

The fuck are you talking about?

Here is the only piece of persona 5 media that we have.

You were saying.....what exactly?

I was gathering something along those lines from the sound played during the trailer, too. There was also the way that when a new chair appeared, the last chair had a chain around it. Aside from a direct interpretation that even the "enslavers" can be enslaved, I'm interested in seeing what exactly they're trying to get at with the theme of this game.

I like the advertising on Nicovideo.

And what exactly from what we've seen of Persona 5 makes you feel it will be like that?

Things don't constantly have to be somber, violent and sexual to be "dark."

P3's "Momento Mori" theme was pretty dark. The Evokers were "dark."
P4 was a sunny happy game about serial murder.

Persona 3's narrative was about accepting the fact that you're eventually going to die and there is nothing you can do to stop it; Persona 4 was about teenage insecurities. I wouldn't really call P3 more mature, but it was a more somber game by definition.

My main thing is I always know I should just wait for the portable version.

That might be part of it but the main theme was if it was better to willingly live a peaceful lie rather then living in a world of truth even i f that truth might be painful

Yeah. I had my hopes up until that character design was posted.

Can you post what character design you are talking about? Before you do though, maybe keep in mind that I posted to you the link to a youtube video that is the only known media for persona 5 that is out in the wild. Stew on that one before you continue to make a fool of yourself.

The theme can be "dark", but if the aesthetic isn't, it doesn't have the same impact. It's like the ending of the School Days anime. As fucked up as it is, the aesthetic of it all kind of detracts from the events that occur. I suppose in a way, it makes it even more fucked up, but personally I have a hard time taking something seriously that is so outwardly candy-coated.

I should put it out there that I only played about 3-4 of P3Fes, and didn't bother touching P4 based off of my experience with 3.

I should also note I have no problem with color. Super Mario 3D World is the best looking next-gen game I've seen so far.

No no, they posted that random red head character from P4A2, don't remember what his name is.

Ah, so he was talking about Sho Minazuki then. I guess that guy's getting P4A2 and Persona 5 confused?

That'd be impossible... right?

Well, unless he's trolling, heh...

I hope we're not going back to a school again...

I remember someone mentioning that Hashino made comments that Persona 5 was going to 'redefine' its conventions, similar to how P3 was largely a completely mechanical change from P1-2. Does anybody have a source or know where this comment was made?

Would be comforting, at this point.

"Hashino stated that it was happening and that he wanted to add elements in Persona 5 that is to be expected of the series as well as change things within those limitations."

Initial reports seem to suggest that he saw the picture of Sho posted a couple pages back, did absolutely no research on the topic (including possibly not watching the P5 announcement teaser), and just assume Sho was a character in P5 and is now basing the entirety of the game on that character's design.

Or trolling, could be trolling too.

The wait is going to be absolutely painful for this game, but I am so damn excited that we've finally got some form of confirmation of a date.

The chairs with the ball & chains is rather interesting choice for a key image in the teaser, but I love the use of the red. Whether it's set in school or possibly a prison, I'm just excited to see that this game is actually coming out.

I wish I knew what team you're a fan of so I can make the same comment! ESPECIALLY if it's the Rags :p

That's just insulting.

At least you didn't say Pens. ;p

But anyway, we know little to know nothing about Persona 5. It's too early to be saying things about it not being 'dark" or character designs just yet. ;)

Okay, so I'm going to clear this up because this misconception is hurting me on the inside. Sho is a character for Persona 4 Arena 2, he has nothing to do with P5. We literally know nothing about P5 yet aside from the teaser they dropped.

Also, Persona 3 and 4 is a very, very, very far cry from 'Disney Channel XD'.
