Watch Kanye West repeatedly get his ass handed to him

OH MY GOD THE INCOMPETENCE. everything you said is so flipped on its back its funny. you are literally describing the opposite of the situation. its not even that deep or hard yet you still miss the point. the whole reason he ISN'T getting corps backing for Donda is because his anti corp messaging in yeezus and acts of media abnormality.

like what is this? neogaf has no intellectual rhetoric on this situation yet there's some pretentious opinion caused by a majority that is also mirrored in mass media and society. neogaf is so disconnected from this situation yet they act as if they have some righteous judgement.

sorry judging by the media i've seen i just dont think kanya has the intellect to write his own raps. does kim write them for him? maybe that would explain his obsession with shoes.

You seem to be up on Kanye's intentions so what the hell is he talking about in this interview with Sway in the morning after Sway asks: Why don't you fund your own clothing venture?

http://youtu.be/S78tT_YxF_c?t=16m57s

I simply cannot understand what the holy hell Kanye's talking about.

He didn't really get his ass handed to him. He merely provide the platform for Kanye to publicly unravel and give his own ass up.

Even the most ardent Kanye Fan couldn't deny how hypocritical his actions are next to his claims but that's usually backed up with some mythological bull about how it's part of Kanye's master plan or something. Now reduced to a rambling madman we're privy to how wafer thin his mentality is and how he's content to gobble up corporate cash whilst pretending to subvert the mainstream. With no excuse for it.
Or the ever continual decline in his music

Subjective. I for one actually find Yeezus to be his BEST album and it's not like the reviews are abysmal for it either. It's third only to The College Dropout and MBDTF so lets not make sweeping statements about his music when I can easily find someone who loves Yeezus just as easily as you could find someone who hates it. Sales are whatever, that all comes down to hype and singles these days which Yeezus only had the former. It's a divisive album mostly because of what people where expecting out of Kanye. Not proof Kanye is shit now.

If you don't like his new music vs the old Yeezy then I don't know what else to say. This kind of thing is constantly hurled at musicians and especially rappers and you and Charlemagne seem to be falling into it.

As for the hypocritical thing ehhhhhhhh. Again he's explained it. In the full interview actually, which I think would be a great thing if people would actually watch it in full rather than skim that 3 minute hit and run clip in the OP.

He doesn't hate corporations, if anything he wants them on his side so he can do his thing, which seems to be people focused designer clothing at this point. Honestly I don't see why people get so hung up on this when contradictions like this are everywhere, RATM playing festivals comes to mind.

You need the machine to get your message/product out there on a mass level. That's why he snapped at Sway. He doesn't want to think small, he wants to think big. Him saying "fuck you and your corporation" could have been flagged as inauthentic the moment it was put to tape considering he's signed to Def Jam but for some reason people are taking it way too much at face value and instead take the obvious route and look at his deals with Nike and crap, even if he's trying to change things there.

What he hates is the narrow minded people behind the corporations that make it difficult for him to get things done like releasing his shoes or doing affordable designer clothing. How much of this turns out to be true is up in the air but said people behind corporations are not giving him the chance to try it.

this is the type of response you all have been giving. do you see this. do you see the substance in this quality response to my comment. but what i'm saying is dumb, yeah. somehow what i'm saying is incompetent. it's some typical majority opinion hierarchy shit.

Comparing Kim to Marilyn Monroe.

mj-laughing.gif

Kim had more talent than Marilyn but I guess its arguable that the defining factors of both of their success was beauty and lets just say that people will remember Marilyn for hers :(

He's against corporations but only corporations allow him to do what he wants to do, which is... sell shoes and crappy clothes?

worlds run by billionaires he's speaking of. he wants to compete with them. it's not about funding his own clothing venture. there's not enough money to reach the level to compete in that. the industry is so tight locked and run by certain people, he states that no matter how well he would do with his own started company, it will never surpass the control and tyranny of them. he needs the backing of a huge corp to compete with them.

While funny, I thought that the Sway interview was the most straightforward of all of them.

Kanye needs funding for his projects.
His main source or revenue is from music.
If he is working on other things then he isn't making music.
Doors are still being shut in his face despite the fact that everything he's done fashion related has sold out.
He could start from the bottom by himself but he needs funding.

honestly, i think that a lot of people in this thread are so disconnected from this world and these industries that even though kanye literally goes step by step in that interview, they still don't understand it. i do think having a good grasp of this entire context must be important.

I find the Kanye hate to be utterly confusing. He didn't say anything worse than:

Cam'ron: "I wouldn't call the police if a serial killer lived next door."
DMX: "His name is Barack?!... What the fuck is a Barack?! Barack Obama. Where he from, Africa?... What the fuck?! That ain't no fuckin' name, yo.
Mos Def: "What does the Taliban want?"

In the realm of silly shit said during interviews, this one ain't even that bad.

Lol, Mos Def is really out there. I remember his rant about media conspiracy on how media purposfully mistranslate Al-Qaeda's treath tapes. Also he is 9/11 truther.

As for Kanye. I feel like he is putting up a show, at least to some degree. Hip-Hop is about personas. I hope the conspiracy theorist Mos Def´is only an act.

I get it... Kanye's delusional for thinking the common listener gives a fuck about the plight of the fashion industry. Facebook started in a kid's dorm room but Ye don't wanna build anything, he wants a spot to be opened up for him.

Dude is having delusions of grandeur and it's sad to see this fall as a once avid fan.

I get the point he's been making lately (about his struggles with the fashion industry), but he's not doing a very good job of explaining it in this interview. Its like he came with a script and whenever someone challenged him on it he kinda fell apart.

Yeesh whatever, dude's made almost a half dozen masterpiece albums in his lifetime. Aren't all pop stars weirdos? Ye's had a very visible platform to make himself look the fool lately but I just don't care. He is a genius.

not salty just cynical that modern music has anything relevant to say

exactly. and that's a fault. modern music is commoditized as fuck, so you're basically not gunna have much in major label music. abrasiveness and social commentary is mostly found in hip hop in major label music as that was the latest genre to be pop pushed to a huge level that has rebel and social commentary beginnings. kanye west being the head of it.

but there is SO MUCH AMAZING modern music within independent music labels. it's been always there since the 60's. theres been quite a rise in independent music as well due to the internet and such. cynicism in modern music is so faulty to me, and so characteristic of people who listen to dad rock. i see you have a stones avatar maybe you will like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dbEq5-Llg0

Would you not think of the poor, poor 0.1% who are struggling against the 0.01%? Show some empathy please! And go buy a $120 plain white T while you're at it.

He seems to want to continually branch out, even into things like architecture and store design, how good he could be at those things is anyone's guess but he does have the desire.

Regarding clothing and shoes, it's subjective if you like it but everything he's produced thus far has sold out and been coveted so I don't think he's off base for wanting to do more in those industries.

he doesn't think the common listener cares. that's why he still makes music for them. his relevancy is important for his fashion interests as well. ye doesn't want to build anything? HE HAS already been building.what do you call his whole career? he wasn't born into being one of the largest artists of today...

i liked some songs of that harlem album btw, friendly ghost was my shit.

women was tight as fuck. rip chris reimer.

hell yea dude

and forreal, it's tragic that there will never be another women album, only two albums but to me two of the finest albums ever crafted..

i should probably leave this thread though lol

pretty much kanye believes he is above paying his dues in the fashion industry like he did in music and is entitled to that co-sign

*shrugs* good luck

You seem to be struggling with the definition of "masterpiece".

As a Chicagoan, he reminds me of so many people that I grew up with. A community guy who was never that cool and had to hide his insecurities to avoid showing any weakness in a tough city. Then, he became famous and instead of addressing those insecurities, he built up this character that he thought people wanted him to be, and eventually, he lost track of the character, it grew too crazy and large, and it consumed him. He lost the line between "Kanye West the entertainer" and Kanye West.

Kanye grew up in a more affluent neighborhood than most Gaffers that live in America.

you seem to be struggling with pretentiousness and objectiveness. you obviously know what i think of this thread btw. you're title of it is the bell to the cattle to drink the milk.

Meh, it was an odd interview but I don't think he was speaking nonsense. Seems like he was just having trouble articulating. He was on point in his other interviews. I feel like most people are too quick to shut him down and label him an idiot to paint him in a bad light.
