Watch Kanye West repeatedly get his ass handed to him

I'd rather hang out with Kanye than most of the squares in this thread. Wtf have any of you done in your lives except sit on message boards talking about famous people?

It's understandable that you wouldn't respect your fellow gaffers. Many of us have never entertained people with rap music or designed sneakers.

He says in this very interview that he has no problem with corporations, just individual people who work for them because they don't understand his genius. So it's not him making social commentary. It's the equivalent of a Facebook rant by a teenager after Target won't hire them.

honestly, I think doors were open for him, but once they sat down to interview about his future plans and ideas and he went on some tangent about he's the new black Isaac newton, Da vinci and Shakespeare and talked himself right out of these deals

Let's be frank, Kanye's one of those guys that love to complain. He complained at the start of his career when nobody would give him a chance as a rapper because all the record labels saw him as a "producer-rapper" and that wasn't good enough. He's doing the same thing now where nobody's giving him the chance to design and sell the clothes/footwear that he wants because they think he's just some rapper who runs his mouth.

What I don't get is why he feels the need to repeat himself constantly in interviews about "oh, Nike's screwing me around telling me they don't know when my shoes are coming out. Wah wah!" as an answer to every non-Nike/shoes related question that's directed to him. The general public doesn't give a shit about it. If you're asked about it then yes Kanye you can reply with "yeah, had a thing with Nike that's not working out well so I'm seeing other companies to further my passion in designing and fashion blah blah" instead of this "Fuck your corporations because they won't let me sell my shoes! Y'all can't control me!" Nike aren't forcing you to make shoes for them. You aren't a slave to Nike. You can freely walk away from them and go somewhere else...which you already did! Plus, there are other corps out there doing far worse shit then not letting you have your cake and eat it.

P.S. I like his music but I can see that he's got a few loose screws up there.

Kanye didn't "get his ass handed to him" in this interview. He made excellent points and articulated his position multiple times throughout this interview.

Though he never properly answered the question he was asked. A good attempt at spinning it, but not a good answer.

I don't...........I don't understand why Kanye gets everyone so worked up around here. He makes good music (not including Yeezus), and that's really all I care about.

I felt he handled himself reasonably well.

He got attacked (with some good points) and he defended himself.

Kanye is out of touch with reality though.

I'm watching this Sway interview and it's kind of interesting. I think I can reaffirm what i said a little earlier, I really don't think Kanye is well. He's always so angry. He wasn't always like this... it's not healthy at all. It's been going on for months. He's holding interviews basically by himself. Zane Lowe, Breakfast Club and Sway. He just goes on and on and on. He can no longer properly articulate himself. He's trapped in his own head - everyone who doesn't agree with him must be haters. He can barely look at the cameras or even the people around him.

He sees a system that he doesn't like that has rejected him, and he can't figure out why. He said in an interview that when he was growing up poor in Chicago his mother would always tell him, no matter what, that no matter what anyone said, 'you can be anything you want', and that seems to be at the center of his psyche.

You can't be a producer just because you make beats in your basement.
You can't be a rapper just because you are a producer.
You can't call out the president just because you are a rapper.
You can't make an album with Jay-Z just because he signed you.
You can't be a fashion designer just because you are a rapper,

Bam, suddenly he can't move forward anymore, and it's the first time it's happened since his mother died. Fashion, fashion, fashion. It's all he can think about. He's desperately searching for a way to get around this hurdle, and he can't accept that maybe there is no way for him too. He has enslaved himself with this belief system. Now he is lashing out publicly because he believes that others can get him what he wants, just like always. It's Nike's fault. It's the fashion world's fault. But in reality, He is responsible for his own happiness and sense of purpose, not other people. So looks for other systems to tear down, because if one of them falls down, maybe that's his inroad. But his heart isn't really in for being a revolutionary, so it all sounds hollow and hypocritical.

I wish someone sit down with him and talk him. Judging from what happened to Sway, it looks pretty terrifying, but that freestyle... he's so preoccupied with things, he can't do what he usually does well, well. It's not healthy. I'd hate for him to go off the deep end, but I'm worried it might be too late. Kim K is sure as shit not going to be the one who sits down and fixes him up.

I watched the full interview yesterday. He's definitely delusional and he rambles incoherently, but I can see where he's coming from. He knows he can't stay relevant as a musician forever (well, as a performer - he can continue producing) and has goals in other artistic areas. He feels stymied by some of the people in these corporations. He doesn't hate the corporate entities themselves. His obsession with money is so he can control his, and his family's, destiny. If he wasn't wealthy and his albums started bombing he would lose his voice, whereas if he's extremely wealthy he can continue with his artistic endeavors. Etc. Etc.

It's actually revealing on one point. When he rails against corporations he's not criticizing the system of corporate media manipulation and phoniness, he's criticizing the individual employees of whatever corporations he's referencing because they don't recognize him for the genius he thinks he is.

Yup. That's a little disappointing actually. Even a hypocritical crusader is more admirable than yet another rich narcissist. It was fine to hear him railing against the people who didn't believe in him on College Dropout because it was about the music, but now it's about the brand. If he wants to get into fashion, he needs to compartmentalize more and realize that most people don't want to hear about that kind of struggle: entertainment figures who try to establish themselves outside of their iconic niche always receive an extra level of scepticism.

That being said, I really enjoyed Yeezus and I hope he doesn't stop pushing himself with his music. Guys like this host who want him to do the same thing over and over again are myopic.

he's always namedropping other artists like he's as big as them.
he's kanye. he will never make thriller.

i had to pause three and a half minutes in because i was laughing so hard. i'm glad charlamagne showed up when kanye was actually sitting there.

This was exactly what I was going to write, and you beat me with one post. But you did it better than me. The guy is just scared of the musicindustry and how it has turned out, he knows how easy it is to not make any money (and therefor loose his fame. Probably thinks all PR is good PR, and therefor acts the way he does. He probably also looks at his "peers" Puff and 50 C and see how they have evolved into business men.

Wow, at the end he's seriously gone. Literally.

"Ain't nothing' real."

I read the title and expected a fight or something with the paparazzi. Maybe next time?

I can see what he is saying, though.

Edit:
After watching the whole video, I completely retract my statement. Kanye just appeared as a jerk who clearly has changed for the worse. That interviewer was pretty BA though. He was getting Kanye good. And major lol at that part where the other host says Kanye maked the things cheaper...and the primary host just shot that down by talking about the $150 Tshirt. Man, Kanye seems to have lost it.

yeah man even though kanye sounded like a belligerent who isn't exactly aware of what he's articulating i could see what he's saying

even though he isn't

Charlemagne actually did this interview very well imo. He didn't act like the typical SC brother he could easily be. Ye was heated but I think it was a pretty good interview.

The rap game is so macho and formulaic all it took was this nut job to have cool sounding shit ghost produced that he whines over and here we are. Love the albums.

He's a joke. Trying to be all punk-rock and fighting the power, but letting the power feed him constantly.

WTF at him talking about the leather pants and the kilt.

Kanye didn't "get his ass handed to him" in this interview. He made excellent points and articulated his position multiple times throughout this interview.

If I had to make a list of 100 adjectives that describe kanye, articulate would not be one of them.

Did we watch the same video? He was almost incoherent. I was able to suss out a couple common sense points that require no thought deeper than "well, yeah"

Kanye is not even of average intelligence, let alone genius. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the type of savant who can tell you what day of the week it was on june 8th 1742, but can't tie his own shoes. Dude is good at music and NOTHING else

I like this Charlemagne guy a lot. What an asshole. :lol
He has a great series of youtube videos where someone asks him what he thinks about current events. It's consistently funny and he brought up all of this Kanye stuff there months ago. I'm glad he confronted him about it.

I understand Kanye is universally disliked. I was merely commenting on the influx of threads about him the past year. He almost gets as many thread as beiber these days

No he isn't. His music is loved. Check the AOTY thread. Even a lot of the posters here who don't listen to rap on the regular, list his album as one of the top 10 best.

Kanye the personality is disliked. And not because they chose his name out of a hat at random.

I don't like kanye myself much, but the obsession some people have to find any negative news about him and create threads about it is disturbing.

No one has obsession or goes leaps and bounds searching under rocks to find things to hate him for.

KANYE ALWAYS BRINGS THIS UPON HIMSELF.

No one told him to run on stage and try to upstage Taylor Swift or tell the world how he felt about the awards.

No one told him to do these interviews. He chose to do them himself. And the people interviewing him? They rather talk about rap or music in general but all Kanye wants to talk about is his fight against the fashion industry. Even the Zane interview he went off on that tangent. Do you want people to not discuss or talk about it at all when he is all over the radios from hot97, power 105, Shade, and even 92.3 now? He was in NYC the past weekend and decided to go on a media tour and instead of talking about his music just goes off on these rants throwing out random names of famous people and comparing himself to them .

No gaffer is waiting to create threads about Kanye or constantly talking about him until unless he releases music and or goes on one of his rants. Its not just gaf discussing it btw. Its all over the internet.

prolly enjoying dude's music and not listening to his interviews?

also see: nas, KRS, pretty much every hip hop artist ever

Cmon man. Nas and KRS might say outlandish things or incorrect fact but they don't go out of there way to have meltdowns, cry, bitch, and throw tantrums when things don't go there way.

Why isn't Kanye allowed to consider himself a genius?

Why can't he be passionate about things he cares about?

Why can't he try and be successful at other things aside from Rap?

Who is trying to stop him again? No one said don't be passionate or consider yourself a genius. No one said stop at rap alone.

He isn't the first. A lot of rappers or musicians think they are brilliant. A lot of rappers have tried their hand at fashion and other ventures. Some failed some succeeded. But when they failed they didn't rally against an industry. Fuck just look at Jay Z and what he has done without always crying yelling and looking pathetic.

That's Kanye's whole thing. No one tell him no. If anyone tells him no or doesn't want to work with him, its because of new slavery, racism, people trying to put him in a box, or whatever else he said. Its never that oh ok so this person doesn't want to work with me so let me go work with someone else. No its always the greatest slight in the world.

Good lord. So many of the comments in this thread sound like "Kanye needs to know what his place is and stay in it."

Yeah because everyone who doesn't like Kanye, his personality, or his rants is clearly a racist in disguise.

Charlemagne is essentially telling Kanye he can only be a rapper and people only care about Kanye as a rapper. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter. Kanye wants to be in fashion and product. End of it.

Please stop lying.

Charlemagne at most said he doesn't care for his ventures and only loves his music. But he did keep asking Kanye why he needs all these corporations and the system, which he himself calls slavery, when Kanye the artist has such a strong voice and presence that he can do some of these things on his own. He never told him he can't do whatever the hell he wants. He just wanted to know why he cares about these industry people when he can get things done on his own.

But it is true a lot of Kanye's BS doesn't resonate with people who only look for good music from him. No one can share his pain when he complains about not getting royalties from NIKE because he needs that money to secure his daughters future when in real life couples who aren't already millionaires/celebs are struggling to support their kids with regular jobs and trying to put them through college.

Sorry Kanye no one feels your pain. You and your rich ass fiance don't get royalties from your shoe deals. Oh the horror! Sure fight for those royalties but don't come on radio and try to sell it to the people as some big injustice while comparing yourself to MLK.

"Oh god I can't stand this egotistical jackass! Why does anyone care!?"

Page 3
for the 100ppp, 6 for the 50ppp

This is an off topic forum. Its the internet. A lot of celeb meltdowns are posted here and discussed. Also politics, religion, world events, and bunch of other random ass topics.

Welcome.

And for people who don't care for his music and only exposure to Kanye are his antics, it is a valid question.

I don't...........I don't understand why Kanye gets everyone so worked up around here. He makes good music (not including Yeezus), and that's really all I care about.

Again because he goes off on these rants and acts like a baby.

If you like someone's music you obviously pay attention when they do interviews and talk. And then if they act like complete morons or jackasses during those moments why won't people talk.

Its not like people make up shit. He does this to himself. He says these things. He goes on to these interviews. He is the one who compares himself to god, MLK, Steve Jobs, Italian designers, Tupac, and whoever else he listed. No one is forcing him to do shit. And all because some pillars of the fashion industry didn't bow down to him upon his immediate request.

If anybody wants to see a rapper handle himself during an interview, then I suggest you watch Lupe Fiasco on Bill O'Reilly. Little Billy couldn't keep up with the black man.

I don't care about his significance on his genre. You're tonedeaf if you think Kanye's musical talents are equivalent to Beethoven's.

He's not even that significant to the genre. All hype, little substance. Guy can't rhyme or handle a mic and his contributions are basically being good in a production environment, but Hip Hop isn't in desperate need of that. Plenty to go around.

When I make the Beethoven comparison, i don't say it in a "there can only be one" way. Remember, there's room for Mozarts and Bachs too. Kanye's one of the most notable hip hop artists to date.

I'm not even gone try further because I can see that many of you can't fathom the idea that Kanye actually had an impact on music.

No, son, it's your fanboy mind that can't fathom the idea that Kanye's achievements in music are miniscule and insignificant in comparison to Beethoven. Every time you make that comparison you make people laugh.

He's not even that significant to the genre. All hype, little substance. Guy can't rhyme or handle a mic and his contributions are basically being good in a production environment, but Hip Hop isn't in desperate need of that. Plenty to go around.

But dawg, Tupac is totally Mozart and Biggie is Bach. They revolutionized da rap game, just like Mozart and Bach, you see? And Jay-Z is the modern day Johan Strauss II.

You guys saying that Kanye handled himself well can. not. be. serious. To paraphrase the evil guy from Billy Madison, "At no point in [his] rambling, incoherent response [was he] even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought."

K: I WILL make affordable clothing for people.
C: Your t-shirts are a hundred and fifty dollars.
K: I didn't set the price.

There's subtext to Kanye's statements that you missed. For the record, Charlemagne is interviewing Kanye not Larry King. Remember, radio listeners hear this interview the morning as they commute to work and school. He said in the interview the sole reason he accepted the interview revolved around getting his message to the people.

Your statement that "Kanye is not even of average intelligence, let alone genius" is a codeword landmine and laughable. Who are you to judge his intelligence? Arranging music is hard. Kanye's an accomplished producer that's proven himself. Designing clothes takes intelligence. Directing videos and developing marketing strategies takes intelligence. You're entitled to your opinion but understand that average people struggle to find success in one of these professions. Geniuses like Kanye excel in multiple fields.

Kanye wants to be accepted by people that will never accept him so bad. Gucci, louis,, and all the over Is, they don't want him as an equal. He could easily create and sell his own FUBU, or Rockawear, but he want to be in Paris and Milan. They don't want a black dude, especially a black American.

I don't think it was as bad as the thread title made it out to be. I'm not familiar with Charlamagne but I'm glad he went after him hard.. seemed like Kanye held his own pretty well. Hopefully Charlamagne got to him a little bit though -- he made some salient points.

I can't help but to feel a little bit sorry for him.

Dude needs to take a rest. How about retreating to Central Asia for some goat herding or something?

Comparing Kanye to Beethoven is ridiculous. You can't compare the two at all. Besides, no one will remember or play Kanye West songs 200+ years from now.
