so is there any anecdotal evidence how this thing is doing a day before black friday?
That's the next game I want to get. It looks so good on Wii U. Is the latency thing true though?
Ok, so I bought a 32 gig model and downloaded Mario World.
Now the system is telling me I only have 12 gigs of free space? What is going on? I go to the data management screen, and it only shows Mario World installed which is 1.2 gigs...
You only have 25GB or so of usable space on the deluxe, so something else must be taking up space. Is nothing else listed under the data management?
Edit: Updates delete themselves and the OS only reserves about 4 GB, so it is really hard to explain.

The updated youtube app is surprisingly good, super fast, good recommandation system, and finally Off TV enabled. It found its place on my main page.

Does the Wii system software take up 18 gigs of space?
That was wrong information. The Wii Mode is still exactly like the Wii. Suspend states still exist, your old ones even transfer over (at least for games you didn't have to redownload in Wii Mode). What Sendou likely meant is that RESTORE POINTS don't exist in Wii Mode as those are a new Wii U VC feature. (A manually created save state that you can load back up when you want to) Suspends work exactly like on the actual Wii. Exactly the same.
Also, all the money you have in your Wii Shop account gets transferred as well. You lose nothing. Everything comes with you to your new console. Everything. Except for homebrew and illegal stuff, obviously.
Did you maybe not notice that you enabled auto-downloads and now have all the demos on the eShop auto-downloaded along with Wii Fit U trial, Wii Sports Club? You definitely have more stuff on there. You just need to figure out what.
Perfect. Thanks for the clarification. Now i'm just trying to remember how the sd card saves worked for the wii, guess ill see what happens when i stick that sd card in.
Currently waiting for my gamepad to charge. Then on to software updates i suppose
Thanks again for all the help everyone.
robots -> red&bluepantsman. it's science fact. don't fight it.
Your whole Wii data gets packed up and moved over. That includes saves. Saves are stored in the system memory. You could manually move Wii saves back and forth between Wii and Wii U's Wii mode but why would you? At least it's useless for the transfer. The transfer app also moves those locked-saves like Brawl. So that's one disadvantage since you'd need to either use homebrew to make a (not really legal) backup of your Wii system data to restore post transfer or unlock characters again if you are a hardcore Smash guy who can only deal with a GCN controller, for example.

Ah right, i just remember backing up some VC saves or something to my SD card since i was out of memory. Yea i don't even have a GCN controller anymore so that's not an issue.
Any difference in gamepad charge times betwen the charging cradle vs. without? Manual just says you can use either
So do I need to transfer my Wii's data over to the WiiU right away? I dunno if transfering my Wii's stuff over later is going to result in my WiiU save data and downloads getting overwritten... But obviously, I would like to avoid that and other undesirable consequences.
Is it true that NSMBU doesn't allow multiplayer with the gamepad? Dang. I got the Mario bundle on eBay with an extra controller (And Wii Play U) for Christmas, and was hoping to be able to play it with my younger sisters. (I have two leftover Wii Remotes from my old Wii) I guess I'm going to have to buy an extra controller then. =/
I was planning on grabbing the Metroid Prime Trilogy [$40], Darksiders 2 for PS3 since it's so much cheaper [$13], and ZombiU [$10]. That would take up the rest of my spending money. But since I now need another controller, I'll probably end up grabbing a used Wii Remote instead of ZombiU. V_V
Dont even know what latency means, but the game is fantastic.
Aiming with the dual analog is as bad as aiming with a dual analog in any game.
But to make things harder, i turned off "aiming assist", because i hate aiming with dual analogs but i hate it more this "aiming assst" thing they cram into the game to hide the fact that dual analog aiming is a disaster
Wiimote controls could make this game perfect. But i was playing it off-tv yesterday while watching the soccer game on the tv and it was so nice i forgive the lack of wiimote support
I'd buy this game if it had Wiimote controls, but no matter how cheap it gets (and it's very, very cheap in the UK), I'm not going to support developers ignoring the single best FPS control method in favour of a slower, less precise but more popular alternative.

You don't NEED to do anything. You can do a transfer whenever you want. The Wii data does NOTHING to any Wii U data. Wii Mode is COMPLETELY separate form anything Wii U related. When you enter Wii mode you boot into the original Wii UI.
Aww, rats. I missed that.
Really tempted to grab Pikmin 3 off Newegg since it's $39.99 today ($50+ elsewhere). I just don't know if it's gonna get a good deal in the next week or so. Probably wouldn't be much lower than that.
You're actually achieving the complete opposite of what you want by voting with your money in that manner. Instead of getting more shooters with Wiimote controls, you'll get fewer because devs will bring fewer shooters to the system. It's definitely your prerogative to skip this game, but I love it, and I would want to see more games like this on the system in the future. A shooter made for the Wii U at least has the potential for Wiimote controls. A shooter that skips the Wii U completely has no chance of having them at all. Buying games like this, but then being vocal about wanting Wiimote aiming seems like the best way to get what you want.
I've been playing Deus Ex on the game pad and its really great...

Just ordered Pikmin 3 off of Newegg. If you use the mobile app/mobile site with the code MBLBF5 (5% off your entire purchase) you can get it for $37.99.
Is Puddle any good? It's cheaper on the eShop than on Steam and I figure the motion controls might be a good fit.
I am heavy into Mario, finishing SM3DL special worlds, playing SM3DW and yeah shame on me I have to finish SMG2, don't know why I left it behind.
I am more of a Mario guy but want to get into Zelda series. Already got WW HD but I want to get a 3DS Zelda, so what should I get, OoT (never played it) or the new one ALBW?
Also I enjoyed CoD BOs 2 a lot but I am on the fence on Ghosts. There are no quality videos around. I need at least one go to MP game, but I might just pick other quality game, still no Pikmin 3 or W101.

No.
My only regretted purchase.
I just ordered it, too. I watched a few videos before buying, and it looks really fun/interesting. I've never played a Pikmin game, so I was a little worried I might not like it. But it does look quite fun.
Same game content wise except the Wii u version has an online component which makes it easier to enjoy the coop/multiplayer missions unless you have local friends who are also into MH. You can still access those alone, but playing with others is like half the MH experience. Is it better to get MH3 for the 3DS or WiiU? Or are they basically the same game and that it just comes down to how I want to play the game?

Since there seem to be a reasonable number of people here considering a Wii U this Christmas, I'll post some of the discounts I've found (UK only, I'm afraid).
Best Wii U price I've got so far is Smyth's Toy Store at £199. It's been cheaper, but if you do it through TopCashBack in the next day or two, you should get a 5% (~£10) discount. It's the Premium model with Nintendoland, btw.
You can get Wind Waker for £30, Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell for a frankly ridiculous £15 each from Zavvi, plus 5% off for new accounts if you use a referral code (easy to find anywhere online). There are also frequently discount codes for an additional 5-10% off around this time of year, so keep your eyes open. You can stack the 5% referral discount with a promotional code, handily.
You can pre-order Watch Dogs for ~£31 and DK: Tropical Freeze for ~£29 from WowHD. Never seen any relevant voucher codes for WowHD, but their TopCashBack rate is a slightly above average 4%.
If you guys are interested in this sort of thing, I'll pop back whenever any other noteworthy discounts are found. Been some decent ones lately though, my usual ports of call are Base.com, WowHD, Zavvi and HotUKDeals. The great thing about being a British Wii U owner is that, if you're prepared to put in some legwork, it's relatively easy to assemble a library of good games for ridiculously low prices.
