Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Here is what I got out of this.

Clark Kent looks like Rosalina and Capcom is co-developing Smash 4.

Friggin' Marvel doesn't know what to do with Mega Man. Where is my Mega Man movie directed by Michael Bay, starring Ryan Reynolds?

However, I would prefer Donald Duck as Mega Man. Make it happen Warner Bros./Marvel!

And that Misty clearly is a better character than Peach.

It does look like there are some people understating Punch Out's popularity in the west, specifically America. The NES game is arguably one of the most popular games on the system, and Nintendo loves to constantly plop it out quickly on their download services. The Wii game wasn't as successful as the NES title, but it still performed well overall. So, there was a new game last gen that sold well in the states from a franchise that has seen 5 releases. The only thing really dragging down the chances of a PO!! rep, in my opinion, is Japan's disinterest in the series.

That's a pretty big "only thing," honestly. Smash Bros. is a Japanese game first and foremost, and the inclusion of Marth, Roy, and Lucas support that. Punch-Out!! was created specifically for the American market, and since American boxing was huge in the '80s, the game was a success. Japan never cared about boxing. They didn't even get Super Punch-Out!! until four years after the American release and only as a Nintendo Power Flash ROM.

It is a big thing, and it makes Little Mac an underdog yet again. I don't want Smash to become more 'westernized' I just don't want characters to be overlooked because of one region. There is still a lot of possible newcomers, but at this point in the Smash franchise, Punch Out's exclusion is becoming more and more apparent. There is demand for Little Mac that even the Japanese fans acknowledge and support, the franchise is more 'relevant' now than at any other point during the development of a Smash game, and a boxing character would offer a unique moveset from the rest of the cast.

I was originally just addressing people dismissing the popularity of PO!!. I think Mac is in the game already.

As usual I'm a few pages late, but Waluigi is the perfect troll character. Also you can do whatever you want with his move set and it will still suit him. Heck I'm ok with all his moves giving himself damage :p

He had a cyclone move and a swimming in air move in multiple appearances of his. Add that the Bob-omb was his special item in other appearances and you've got yourself a good move set.
I wouldn't mind his move sets being weaker versions of others'. For example his cyclone could be similar to Meta Knight's with a high chance of him getting dizzy after it, his bomb could be similar to Link's except the explosion will blow him away (can be used as a crazy recovery mechanic), and so on.

Don't forget that comics are somehow relevant to the whole Rosalina debate.

Character designs were relevant to the character design debate were having about character designs, which is about characters and their designs in general regardless of what medium they are from. But we have discussed the merits of paying attention.

Can't wait to see Captain Falcon tonight. :)

That would be funny if he was revealed today, but sakurai had no Idea what thanksgiving even was. It just happened to be convenient

That is irrelevant because we were talking about 2 characters looking too much alike in a fighting game. Your examples has no merit because it's not even the same situation. Not even close.

Seriously, who the fuck cares whether Bruce and Clark look alike in their non-super hero attire? It really has no meaning to what we're actually talking about in the god damned first place.

qq pls
chill out

Maybe Bruce Wayne is Superman?

*gasp*

In my experience (anecdotal) most people who play smash don't even know who most of the roster are. They couldn't tell you who Marth or Metakinght is let alone the games they come from.

These people won't care that Roalina is a space orphan or Daisey really loves egg salad. They are just going to pick a character they find visually appealing, so to them the princesses might as well be a selectable colour swaps.

Look how similar (and dull in my opinion) their silhouettes are.

Compare this to the hundreds of visually interesting characters Nintendo has with strong silhouettes, shapes and colours.

Vote NO on Rosalina!

And besides, if you're really into visually dull characters they've got you covered with the Wii Fit trainers.

Not sure if joke post or anything... I mean, surely someone who uses Misty as a reference for "unique character" (let alone using anime version) is joking right?

If it's a serious post, I'm laughing at how his example works against him. Right off the bat Rosalina's silhouette is unique compared to the two.

All of this will be relevant when Sakurai reveals that Batman is only in the game because he thought Superman looked too much like Wario-Man.

Travis Touchdown confirmed?!
I know a lot of gamers out there who don't have much patience. 'least that's what Bishop the dude at the video store said. So I'm at the register and then I realize: I got no money! I was seriously broke! Why? 'Cause i got invited to Smash Brothers.

Didn't EAD Tokyo intentionally design Space Peach to look like Land Peach?

Whats going on in this thread.
Waluigi today is almost like Luigi in the 90s
still teasing you MannyToons for that statement :p

There is nothing new in the daily pic despite there being a new stage hazard
I'm guessing everyone else seen it through their crystal ball, I should get one

Rosalina has similarities in her appearance to Peach (which is true)
but some crazy people are saying that is a reason Rosalina should NOT be a playable character in Smash

Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent looking similar is the equivalency of the above and a counterargument to what is in the spoiler
lolwut

Silhouettes are important for character choices
lawl

Any potential newcomer will just be a clone of an existing character
thank you Mr. Sakurai for your insight

It definitely wasn't an accident.

Got that spoiler there wrong, broski.

You also forgot to mention the dapper Ridley and Kraid I posted.
I'm so glad I found that art randomly while looking for a fun Ridley pic to post as response, because that is serious avatar material.

I honestly still want to see Samurai Goroh as a playable character (as a slower, more powerful Takamaru semi-clone), but I know that's never going to happen. I'd just like to have all the Melee intro video villains (Ridley, Wolf, and Goroh) playable in a Smash Bros. game.

If it was me, we'd have like at least 20 F-Zero characters. Best series. <3

Thank you for pointing that out, worked really hard on that post.
Not really lol

The pic is funny, but it wasn't silly like the things I posted above.

Just randomly picked a female nintendo character that doesn't resembles any other Nintendo character in the roster, so yes her look is unique.

The average person is going to think Rosalina is a slight variation on Peach if not the same character. She would make a decent alt costume.
