3DS Streetpass Experiences

I've been all hipster natural this week. Staying away from those juiced relays. Streetpassing real British people, in the real world.

(2 passes in 3 days)

I've been all hipster natural since March (no relays, old people and cows)

(30 passes in 9 months, 28 of them were when I went to big cities far away)

:( Why are the streetpass games so addictive...

Haven't taken my 3DS out in two months (since around about the time I got the new iPhone, hmmm...) and so got to experience these upgraded relays. I got twenty passes, which is good but... I finished the Pokemon puzzle, which is bad. I've got nothing to do again. Finished all puzzles and have all plaza tickets.

Did the new games do well enough for nintendo to commission some more?

I want the Brain Training puzzle!

I'm up for new Streetpass games. Hopefully a mix of quick-to-play collectathon stuff like puzzle, and more involved ones too.

And raise the plaza limit to 60.

Raising the plaza limit would be godly!
If it's a memory constraint, then they should give us the option of receiving less Streetpass data for other software. How many games can you have activated for Streetpass at once, 12?
Well you should be able to select how many you want up to 12 and the less you have the bigger plaza queue you'd be capable of holding.

I had a cool idea for a Streetpass game but it's basically what Bravely Default does. I think it probably has one of my favourite uses of streetpass so far.

There's probably some memory constraint. Explains why you can store 99 useless, pointless Pokemon passes.

I don't know if it explains why SM3DL can only deal with 3, though.

I'm missing out on so many Zelda Streetpasses. I need to get the game pronto.

Surprised at the number of Bravely Default passes.

People who have all plaza tickets...

This will never ever happen for me, if for no other reasons than my lack of cybernetic reflexes mean I will never clear all of Mii Force with no losses.

*cry*

(Heck, some bad decisions with weapons in Monster Mansion are kicking my ass now and I'm only on floor 27...)

So, got all puzzle pieces.
I really expect the Zelda / 3D World puzzles to be imminent.

I wish the puzzles had been for 3DS titles only, that way we might've had cool ones like Layton and Paper Mario instead of useless ones like Xenoblade and Kirby's Return to Dreamland (I think it's called...)

From all the places I've been in both America and Europe, I usually find airports to be the best places to get a lot of Streetpass content. Makes sense as people are usually carrying their 3DSs for trips and such.

I wonder how crazy it must be in Japan. I imagine a simple 30 minute metro ride being enough to give you at least 10 hits.

I get 10 passes the moment I arrive at Birmingham New Street train station. It's awesome.

But that is because of the relays rather than human beings.

Despite only getting 2 passes in the first 3 days of the week I'm pretty sure this was my most successful week.

Days of 36 and 29 passes will do that. Up to exactly 800 now.

But no Koizumi for Europe?

I seem to have achieved 'Pass 5 females in a row'. As for where it happened my best guess is the Media Markt Berlin demo units (about 8 systems) which was shortly after I got the system. I'll have to check my plaza to verify...

I reached 9,999,999 troops in Battle. About a level to go before reaching rank 20 so then I'll fight monarchs (and still win with a 1/98/1 split :( ) and do nothing until I get the tickets (300 battles and 300 greetings...stupid game).

I thought it was hopeless for me too but now I only have the last stage left (my best run I took a hit in the daftest place right before the boss). Now, all Gems and beat arcade mode *whimper*. Makes me wonder if I'll get all titles first.

I got the 5 females achievement at the Eurogamer Expo, there really were tons of girls there. That's also where I got most of the tricky ones, like get 100 passes in a day, etc. It was actually one of my favourite things about the show haha.

I probably would still not have the 'Pass 5 females in a row' achievement at that point.
I got this at NYCC this past fall.

I encounter lots female streetpassers. The female/male ratio is probably 30/70 or 40/60. That said, getting 5 in a row is still a very rare occurrence. I don't mean to dismiss your point

With the relay system one could potentially get five female passes in one go but there's a bloke right in the middle of it killing the five in a row combo.

I still have a hard time telling when it is a "real" streetpass and when it's a relay point streetpass. I usually throw my 3DS in my bag when I'm walking around or going to work; about 550k steps & 300 passes since August when I got it.

I live in Manhattan, so I'm sure that helps. I saw a girl near me on the subway playing Pokemon, and when I got home and checked my passes, sure enough her Mii looked a lot like her. I usually just take the puzzle pieces and look at "last played" software.

Relay streetpasses almost always come in batches.

If you go to your notices from the home screen you can view details about the streetpasses that are waiting to be loaded into specific games. If you have 2-6 streetpasses at one exact time then you know that they are from a relay.

I enjoy checking the streetpass notices periodically. You can usually match up times with locations to figure out where you got different tags.

I love taking my 3DS out with me and getting that one or two random tags. A couple times it has been my local grocery store. Yesterday it was at Subway.

I got no passes on the way to Saint Louis during the Thanksgiving weekend, however on the way back on Sunday I received 5.

Is it weird that I have too many portraits for the swap, and getting duplicates on existing pieces really stinks.

Question: the "take in X groups of soldiers' tickets
do they include:
- Soldiers won from beating Monarchs
- Soldiers gifted from greeting Monarchs
- Soldiers won from taking over countries
- Soldiers hired from mercenaries

or do they just count soldiers taken in by streetpassing non-players?

I would think everything except the taking over countries; though beating Monarchs is also questionable. In the end, it's a pretty easy ticket to get if you have a consistent source of Streetpasses.

I probably have a 60/40 split of bros and gals.

It's probably not that statistically weird to have 800 passes without getting 5 in a row.

a big thank you to the person who said they get a good amount of street passes at home depot. lately i have been going to nintendo zones and not getting much luck at various starbucks, mcdonalds or the best buy i tried but ive been to 3 different home depots and i always get a ton.

Thing to bear in mind is there is a deal where if you buy all the games at once you only pay for 3 of them.

That is good since Streetpass Battle/Warriors way is really not worth buying on its own. The problem with it isn't so much how poor value play coins are in the game or how streetpasses affect you (or lack of) as the whole as the game scales difficulty based on your army size and each battle is beatable with the army you have, although this is less practical until you can spy. Plus the final boss is luck based annoyance.

If you had to pick one it is a tie between Streetpass Squad/Mii Force and Mansion/Monster Manor. The former is better for action (plus you get other players high scores when you pass people who have played the game) and the latter is better for puzzle/strategy (but eventually is running through the motions).

So reading ColonelSkill's impressions, I wanted to get other people's thoughts, which of the four dlc games is worth it?

ill throw my 2 cents in. first a few brief words on mii force and warriors way and most of this post is about monster manor. note i haven't played and might not ever play the flower one.

Mii Force - a nice little shoot em up. seems easy to get plaza tickets or maybe ive just been playing monster manor so long im past the early get plaza tickets a lot stage and i just dont remember it. If you street pass a lot it helps but you can buy with your coins people too.

Each persons color translates into a weapon like red people are fire and you have the option on the bottom screen where to put them. there are three different front slots and one in back. if you have two or three of the same color in the same slot it powers up that weapon. like two red people in the same slot back to back then its a level 2.

you use the shoulder buttons to rotate your guns and you can hold down a to shoot. there are gems to get and you also have to pickup your people along the way of the level. you start with one and then after that you have to pick em up. each level ends with some kind of boss fight. other people that you street pass and have the game you can see their highscore for that level. also you can earn little nicknames that you can switch out. its not bad if you street pass a lot i would say its worth it but if you have to use coins i prefer monster manor but i could see some people liking mii force more.

Warriors Way - this one is pretty basic i would not recommend it unless you street pass a lot. I wouldnt waste coins on it. You have a little area and your goal is to take over the world with your army. your army grows by winning battles and by getting people via street pass. if you street pass someone you dont just get 1 added to your army you get the number of the people in their plaza or whatever its called. if you streetpass someone who has the game you can fight them but i literally just got this game like two days ago and so my army is so much smaller ive chosen the option to not fight. before the fight starts it tells you how many ppl is on the other side and how they are broken up there are three groups. and it tells you what kind of fighter that group is. its based on rock paper scissors. so like each group is good and has a weakness to another group. you don't know which group the other guy will send into battle just their sizes and what kind of fighters they are. then you divide your guys into three groups and then fight. the winner is the person who wins 2 our 3 fights. where monster manor you can play for a while and mii force isnt bad the warriors way playtime goes by really fast.

Monster Manor - this is my favorite and the one i've been playing the longest. When the four new games were announced this is the one i picked.

So either by buying people with your walking coins or using people via street pass or a combination of the two you make your way through this mansion. Each person gives you a tetris like piece that is the color that they are. on each floor the goal is to find the stairs by placing these pieces. but if you make a square then a chest appears with usually a weapon but sometimes an item. the larger the square/rectangle you make the better the chests are and thus the better the treasure inside. sometimes instead of a treasure you get this green orb thing. at the green orb you can upgrade your weapons, change your inventory (you can only hold so many things on you the rest are stored for you), change items into gems and i think thats it.

To upgrade your weapon you select it and then the second weapon you want to use for the upgrade on your screen it will show you how much exp points that will give you. if you upgrade a weapon with the same weapon the max level for that weapon goes up and it becomes that weapon +1 you can do that twice raising the max level after that you can still upgrading it just doesnt raise the max level. the worse weapons are D (i dont think there are Fs) all the way up to A and then finally S being the best. Weapons sometimes have abilities tied to them that give them extra powers.

So you are trying to find the stairs in each level while at the same time making the largest square/rectangle you can for the best items. You can go back to levels after you have moved on. Like say you have a blue piece that would fit nicely on a previous level.

monster_manor.jpg

There are some random enemies and some enemies you see on the board and then every 5 levels a boss fight. Winning the fights gives your weapon more exp and you earn gems as well. For combat the left shoulder button is block and the button is shoot. the right shoulder button speeds things up. most weapons you can charge as well by holding down the a button and build up a bigger shot but you can't block during that. each weapon has batteries that drain. they drain while you are blocking and when you fire the weapon. so you can't just button mash.

If you want a certain color you can send the current person to the back. So if you are working on a blue piece you can send the next few people to the back until you get to a blue piece. You can also dismiss a person if you dont want their block. Although you dont have the option to dismiss until you go to take their block and it wont fit on your current board. So if you dont want to use a piece go to a board that is already filled in and take the piece and you will get the option to dismiss.

If you street pass people sometimes you will get the option to do a puzzle box where you are given pieces a shape to put them in and a time limit. These are fun but if you complete them within the time limit you get a better prize so i usually just hit up this for the solution bec

If you get a lot of street passes that will help you in this game but if you dont you can still make your way through it with the coins. The 10 daily coins get you 5 people so i recommend waiting until you have 20 coins to have a full batch of 10. Since you are trying to make large squares/rectangles for treasure its best to have the full amount of people so you have a better chance of getting multiples of a same color

They are all fun in their own way.

Thing to bear in mind is there is a deal where if you buy all the games at once you only pay for 3 of them.
This. You will enormously regret buying upgrading later if you only buy one or two now. All of those streetpasses will have been wasted for the games you buy later.

I have definitely been addicted to gathering streetpass tags in general and these games are a big part of that. That said, even having spent an enormous amount of time with these games, my opinions are mixed.

They are definitely addictive, but in a sense they are addictive like minesweeper or Angry Birds. The games aren't really substantial but you still find yourself playing them. The experience is hard to relate to any other game. You can't play them at all without Streetpasses and the effect of each streetpass tag is meant to feel almost like a reward/currency within the game. In some ways they feel like F2P games; except you have to pay for them upfront, you can't play them at all without buying content continuously, and the currency in the games is streetpasses instead of actual money.

I, and others in this thread, have spent a huge amount of time with these games and yet I can't really look back that fondly on my experiences with them. The time I have spent with my other favorite 3DS games has been much more fulfilling.

I'd say it's both the easiest and hardest to get tickets in; about half the tickets just need simple stage clears, but the rest of them require completion of objectives - arguably, the only plaza tickets that require actual gameplay, as has been lamented in this thread. Every other game has their plaza tickets release at a slower pace as you progress with little issue (except The Dude's Wish in Flower Town, that one's just mean).

Buy them all. Four for the price of three is a pretty good deal, and all of the games are worth it if you enjoy streetpass.
If you can really only afford one, I'd go with Mansion or Garden.
Squad and Battle are great at first, but Battle doesn't have much of an endgame and Squad gets kind of annoying after the first playthrough.
Garden might seem boring at first, but it really opens up after a while and end ups being the deepest of all the streetpass games.
Mansion is fun all the way through and will probably keep you entertained longer than the others.

Home Depot is still rocking strong. I've been getting a lot of new passes from people who have less than 10 hits in their plazas, so there's a lot of new 3DS users out there. Most of them have Pokemon as their last played game. Ruby Tuesday restaurants are StreetPass relay points too if you have one in your area, although you seem to have to be in or near the building in order to get the relay hits. I've tried sitting out in the parking lot and while I can detect its Nintendo Zone (and even download an Animal Crossing gift item) I can't get the relay to work unless I'm next to the restaurant front door.

I never get relay hits at Best Buy stores out here. They're zones but not relays I believe.

I reached the magic 1,000 tags yesterday on my NA 3DS. The plaza music change is nice.

The new games feel a lot like Animal Crossing.

Infuriatingly wordy and slow if you're short of time or patience, but relaxing and satisfying if you can just do a little bit every day.

I failed to get the most out of Koizumi today.

He was my 9th pass, so I couldn't hire 2 yellow Miis to clear the poison-room in Quest.

I decided to go to the final boss of Mansion rather than take his puzzle piece and gift.

I wasn't the only one who noticed that... ;_;

It took me a long time but I finally got it eventually:

Thank god I can go back to just raising flowers normally, this was ridiculous

The flower actually spawned a seed that will grow a near-identical copy of itself at 100% (only the color is different) and I have a few seeds at 60% chance of generating a Squirrel's Ear that also fulfill the requirement. If you come to MAGFest, one of these flowers will be what I have on hand at all times.

Well I went to the Symphony of Goddess concert here and man, juggling two 3DS with streetpass is intense. I quickly realized I would only have time for puzzles and getting people for warrior's way.

What is ironic is that I didn't get far enough in ALBW to get the streetpass function, kicking myself for that :P But I made a lot of progress on the puzzle front, almost up to speed with all the pink pieces... again. And I met a dude with 999,999 troops, insane dude.
