Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies SPOILER thread | So THAT'S why it's rated M

i love this game

uhhh i can get to recording rimes's rap in a minute, but i don't think i'll be able to get it with the hit at the end without the text noise

The bad:
-There was no killer... there was no killer! Even though Rimes was a great opponent, taking him down didn't feel satisfying. There wasn't an elaborate murder method, the victim just slipped and fell... A far cry from the majority cases where the victim is usually killed in the most ridiculous way. I didn't feel any sense of hype when I finally took him down. And his breakdown was awful. They should have ran with his rapping gimmick :/

That's the point. You are not supposed to feel happy for catching him and making him confess. Look how his breakdown is more depressing than funny and undignified as the regular ones. Even Phoenix comments, before the veredict, that he felt that something was off with Rimes suddenly taking all the blame and wanting to die.

Is unsatisfactory because it was an accident like with Azura and there is no a easy target to blame.

ugh fuck i didn't realize that all the raps autoplay so you can't pause anywhere to just hear the music without the text sound

in any case this is what i have. if i'm wrong and there's a spot where i can pause and just listen to the music lemme know and i will gladly do so. i got this from the dissin' of phoenix wright and i have a save there right now so i can go back quickly if necessary.

IT WAS EFFIN' FULLBRIGHT ????? DIn't saw that one coming !!! But who was the sniper ? Why ? Will this be answered in a DLC ? IN AA6 ?

So.... many...questions... it hurts

The sniper is actually the real Fulbright. The one who got shot is actually Phoenix who has been brainwashed. The Phoenix you've been playing as is a hobo who thinks he's Phoenix after seeing him in a newspaper.

wat

I hate you :'(

Maya's letter didn't appear out of nowhere as a coincidence. Pearl didn't appear out of the blue just to "clean Phoenix's" office. She also never received a "message" from Kurain about how black Psyche-Locks worked because she knew what they were about all along. How do you expect her to send a message to Kurain and receive an answer in such a short period of time?

Some real important spiritual channelers over at Kurain learned of the Phantom's involvement in some recent events and that a certain Phoenix Wright might be involved in aforementioned events. Maya Fey and Pearl Fey are the two over at Kurain who are the closest to Phoenix, so they were sent over to investigate and "deal" with the Phantom if he were ever to be discovered because he has some sinister ties to Kurain that they would not want revealed.

Unfortunately, they didn't account for the fact that Maya's a terrible shot, despite her intense "training" that keeps her over at Kurain village.

Are you playing with my feelings ?

I guess you'll have to find out.
I'm joking. It's not the sniper you're looking for.

DLC "spoilers":
It only just occurred to me - that is a weirdly specific name to call a little penguin, in a game that prominently features a sniper in its final act.

The shooter did miss and... penguins have slippery wings, they sure would have a hard time lining up a proper shot. Coincidence? I THINK NOT

I know I'm late to the party, but I finally beat the game. Story-wise, I'd rank it just under my favorite in the series, T&T. My thoughts:

-It was noticeably easier than the previous games, and while I didn't like investigating every room and getting lost in the previous games, it still was somewhat of a challenge. I thought with the 3D movement investigating would get harder but it turned out to be the exact opposite.

-Speaking of difficulty, I really felt babied during the trials. There were way too many flashbacks where I was thinking "ugh, I KNOW, game!" and it seemed like right before you had to present evidence they would tell you an unnecessary hint in the text, which made me feel less rewarded when I had to "guess" the correct evidence. It was also sometimes too easy it became difficult, like when they ask you to choose between two statements to add to their testimony. If you choose the wrong one, you had to press again, or wait for them to ask you to change it again. I don't recall ever having to do this in the previous games but it's been a while.

-The music exceeded my expectations. After playing the demo, I was disappointed in the quiet themes but the songs in the later cases really shine. Every time Announce the Truth played I got chills.

-Although they were too easy, I really liked the "thought process" parts that the 3 main characters had. It did a good job of summarizing info(helpful because I often took 5-6 day breaks while playing) and explaining new things. And yeah the music was awesome.

-Okay, I really hated case 4, and hated how it basically merged with case 5. The whole space thing bored me for some reason and the characters felt too corny(yes I know even for a AA game). I dunno what it was but I sort of stopped playing the game for a while once I got here. Pretty much nothing gets figured out in the end, and once I learned that the final case in the game continued this case, I was blown. But the final case ended up being really good so it made up for it. I just liked the idea of having a different theme for each case, even if they were all connected in some way. Having two space/science themed cases made case 5 seem like case 4.5 to me.

-I know a lot of people liked that the Phantom was never revealed, but I personally hated it. It really felt like no payoff for me at the end. I want to know the whole mystery behind Fulbright and everything, but it seems like it was just sequel bait. That's why I always thought the best AA games like T&T had conclusive endings that made you feel good in the end. I'm glad there's (probably) going to be a sequel, but I really wanted a start-to- finish plot.

took me 6 and a half hours to beat the dlc (no skipping dialogue), not bad for $6. highlights is the dumb tv phone and simon going something like ' command the orca, theres an app?'

pirate song is still lingering in my head too lol.

Case really does feel like it should exist in the main game, but was relocated for some reason. It's not really dlc either if the whole case is pretty much on the cart. weird. Was this the same for jp version?

really hope there will be future dlc, but it doesn't seem like it :(

still hoping for a hobo phoenix outfit someday.

I really don't think it's beyond belief that people in the AA universe would stick to established protocol in the face of apparently worrying evidence.

Everyone's up on the Dissing of Phoenix Wright, but that testimony clearly establishes that the onus is on the defence to disprove witness statements. Which is stupid. But whatever!

Yup. I had an especially hard time with that testimony, because it pulled the one trick that I hate and that I don't think any of the original five cases pulled: pressing a statement and then needing to press an earlier statement!

In its defense, it made it really obvious that you had new information following the Press because of the whole examination sequence.

But I still had trouble figuring out which statement to Present on afterwards anyways, ahahaha.

Just finished the DLC case. What an awesome case, probably even my favorite of this game, and very high on the overall list.

I finished the DLC case, I came here before playing it and was spoiled that
the death was accidental
which annoyed me, but damn at the end I didn't even care, such a great case.

Finished the DLC case earlier today & rather enjoyed it. Really liked the fact it brought more of Pearls & the magatana, two things I felt kind of lacked in the main game since they barely appeared or did anything/was just a quick cameo. Also, holy crap at
ster-Rimes' transformation
. & the fact that you
actually got to cross-examine the orca via telecast
just put a smile on my face.

Also,
Pirate Athena
costume as DLC, please.

Let's talk about the AA5 soundtrack

It's the best soundtrack in the series, bar none. I'm almost tempted to say it'sobjectively better than the others. The song selection is impeccable, the 3DS superior hardware produces much better sound quality, and ace attorney meets ORCHESTRA. Cmon, do I really need I say more?!?

So what were you favorite songs? Here's my top 5.

1. Pursuit: Keep Pressing On!
This song is the absolute pinnacle of Pursuit themes. The intensity! The passion! The fierce pursuit of truth! This song has it all, and it never lets up for a momentary second! This is the perfect song the big bad of the case after the truth has been revealed. The absolute peak of each the games case involved this song; notable moments include: finally taking down L'belle, uncovering truth behind the murder at the GAXA space station (the rotating rocket platforms, jesus) and taking down the goddamn Phantom. Yup this song is basically synonymous with "HYPE AND EXCITEMENT" for me and I love it so much. It's my favorite Ace Attorney song and one of my favorite songs of all time
It's my current ringtone ♪

2. Athena Cykes: Bringer of Revolution!
I wasn't too big on her main theme, so I was pretty apprehensive about this one. Luckily, it ended up being a fantastic song, and its always managed to play at the perfect times too. If you recall, it first plays when Athena discovers Robin was a girl, which was basically your first big break in the case. It also plays when you finally apply the Mood Matrix to Fulbright and you get 0 emotions for his entire testimony (which was a hype moment). Overall this song suits Athena Cykes well; its great at conveying a sense of... I don't have all of the answers, but i'm really trying and i'm almost there!!!

3. Apollo Justice: A New Chapter of Trials!
They basically took the best song from Apollo Justice, and made it even better. The contrast between this one and the original is pretty significant to me. The new one marks a new and improved Apollo Justice; A rookie attorney no more, Apollo is totally on top of his game now! This song does a great job at conveying Apollo's significant improvement as an attorney. Apollo Justice's signature theme is back, and better than ever!

4. Thought Route
This is it! The endgame! The final stretch! The final push that puts the case to bed! I think it needs to be stated again; thought Route was one of the best damn additions to the game. It completely immerses you case, and it makes you feel like an actual ace attorney if you get it right. It's a massive departure from previous games; if YOU as a person wants to win, YOU have to EARN IT. The song itself is fantastic; it really pours on the pressure and the intense drum play is phenomenal. The 2 best implementations of this song was during the 3rd case, (wherein you're forced to figure out how Means carried out the murder, or it's game over) and the 5th case (where Wright managed to solve a 7 year old case on his own). This song (or any future variation) should be an absolute mainstay in the future games.

5. Lively People
I've always been a fond of the "upbeat" people themes, but Dual Destinies was the game to deliver a theme of this type that was more than just filler for banter. This song is practically synonymous with the characters that use this theme. Seriously, what's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about this theme? I bet you're instantly reminded of Filch, Robin, Ponco and Rimes and their antics. Overall, this song is just a lot of fun.

So there you have it, my top 5. I feel like the associated memories I have with each of these songs is the reason why I like them so much, but regardless they're top notch.

Runner Ups
Cross Examination Allegro (2013)
Court Begins
Phoenix Wright - Objection!
Investigation - Core (2013)
Phanton - UNKNOWN

I was not on board with fully orchestral during the demo (plus they changed the way the text is presented!) but I got used to it and now I think it's rockin'

Both versions of "Mood Matrix" has really grown on me. I loved it in the game but the track itself, especially the second version is so damn cool. It made Athena's personality analysis segments way more engaging.

So, I sat down to AA5 at 8:00 last night. Was somewhere near the end of case four or the start of case five (they kinda mesh together). Didn't get to bed until 7:00 in the morning when I beat the game. D: That certainly was a ride, great entry in the series.

I don't exactly remember when the Fulbright connection clicked, may have been during Phoenix's ladder theory.

It's been a while since I've played Apollo Justice so some details of the end of that case are foggy. One theory I had was Kristoph was some how pulling some strings while on death row or something and Blackquill went to prison as an undercover agent. Turns out I was wrong. ;)

AA5 isn't perferct, but none of the Ace Attorney games are. Each have their quirks and flaws. AA5 did a lot right and that far surpasses anything I thought the game may have done wrong. :)

Edit: Oh yeah, is it just me or does this series have a running gag with stepladders (see case 2)?

Edit2: Phantom, this is a character you really have to step back and look at the sum of his deeds. Man, without hesitation he'd kill a whole courtroom full people just to destroy a piece of evidence

There's a ladder/stepladder discussion in every single game. Mostly you have to find a ladder of some kind in investigation and examine it to get the discussion going.

So, yeah, there's a running gag.

Having handed my 3DS XL over to my wife to make her own run at the game, and sat by as she's played through to case 4, I'm over here trying not to laugh my ass off when she tells me "I don't like Fulbright, he's like an imitation of a Phoenix Wright character."

Heh, I had a similar encounter with my brother

He wasn't a fan of Fulbright at first (mostly because he missed Gumshoe), but he warmed up to him by the 4th case. Shortly after completing the 4th case, he comes up to me and says "man I really, really like Fulbright now. I can say with certainty that he has succeeded Gumshoe as prime detective. Looking forward to seeing him the next game!"

It took every ounce of willpower to not laugh like a maniac and go along with it.

Case 4, Trial Day 2

Anyone else get super hyped at this point?

Phoenix: The defense argues there was a third person in the lounge, and that's who killed the victim!

Blackquill: Objection!

Hmph. To make such reckless claims in a courtroom takes a bold man... or a stupid one.

There was no third person in the boarding lounge.

Or have you gone dotty already... old man?

Phoenix: Objection!

We'll see who's the dotard after I trounce you with my years of experience, little boy!

Phoenix, laying on the smack down like a boss. It may have been the reason I went and marathoned the rest of the game from that point. It definitely got me hyped.

Boy, I sure wish I could buy the DLC for this game. It just bombs out with error 009-4901 every time I try, even if I put my 3DS into my router's DMZ, or disable the firewall, or forward all ports to it, the usual suspects... nothing works. Bummed :(

Is this from the in-game menu or from the eShop?

Mhm.

Case 4 gets a lot of hate for being "short" and some of that hate is valid, however... The twist to the case is legitimately one of the best twists in the entire series. That was definitely one of Phoenix's best turnabout moments.

Seeing as it dealt with the courthouse bombing I went into the episode expecting it to be shorter. I was actually pleasantly surprised it went to an investigation and trial beyond the bombing.

Anyways, different topic. I found AA5 acted as a better "passing of the torch" story than Apollo Justice. This is likely one of the reasons many frown upon AA4. The masses wanted more courtroom Phoenix. Instead they were given hobo Phoenix with this new and unknown guy taking his place at the bench.

With the conclusion of AA5 Phoenix is now in the mentor role with the floor opened up to the new generation. People now seem to acknowledge Apollo as a character and I see them being willing to explore his story. As we know there is much unresolved with the story of Apollo/Trucy/"Whatever their mothers name is". While I would like to see Maya back I hope it's just for one case and not the main focus of the next game. Same goes for Edgeworth, he's a great character but his story has been explored quite deeply.

Anyways, whatever happens in the next game I'm sure will be awesome. :)

Edit: BTW, anyone have a gif of Athena playing with her hair? It's a crime I can't find that animation.
