They're better off showing Bayonetta 2. I'm crossing my fingers for some more Bayonetta action. It can't be that far from release can it?

Nintendo didn't even tease or hype anything. It was all Keighley. I bet Nintendo didn't wanna show up, but GT finally got some DK footage leftovers and now wanna lure in Nintendo viewership for the show.

Please tell me that you don't actually believe this lol

This just in! I have spoken with Larry, and he has said word on the streets is that Mr. Fils-Aime will be announcing John Madden as a playable Smash character, marking for the first time ever a real person in the game (right?).

Nintendo said that since John Madden has been in video games since the 80s, he is technically a video game character as well, and it only makes sense given the great relationship Nintendo and EA have.

Be advised, Larry appeared under the influence as is typical, but if he is right (as usual), this could be HUGE!

Oh, yeah, my mind is fucked, you're right. A bad day gets worse by me not reading properly.

That Nintendo viewership, all twelve, are gonna set the ratings on fire.

It can't hurt to have more balanced content for your show. They also asked Atlus for Persona 5 footage.

We just had 3D World sell the least of any 3D Mario in Japan and get plumber-smacked by Knack in the UK. The same ol' experiences aren't moving Wii U.

It's the sixth 3D Mario since 1996. The fifth Uncharted game is about to be unveiled, in a series all entries are identical in game design.

The new IP argument is invalid. It's fresh for 5 mins until you realize it's the same gameplay in a new skin.

Reggie is going to announce Cranky Kong right after a trailer for a game that we are legitimately excited for (like Fallout 4 or something) just to expressly highlight how out of touch they are with what their fanbase wants.

Not getting the least bit hyped for this was the right course of action I feel. There were hopes but all for nothing most likely. Should have known better.

I don't know if that's fair. The install base in the UK is too tiny for SM3DW to do strong numbers there. Let's wait until NPD. I'm confident the game did well here.

Maybe informing yourself about the entire PS4/Wii U situation in the UK would help you since it's no surprising development at all

Of course it's not surprising what happened in the UK. But the game released and it's not moving consoles to any large degree. That's the point. Just showing the same stuff that everyone knows is coming doesn't excite people.

I was replying to a post that said 3D World is evidence for the value of showing off older properties. That's obviously not the case if Nintendo is looking to move Wii U consoles.

I bet Cranky Kong will have the exact same effect on the Nintendo community like Old Snake did on the Sony community

I don't think the general audience really separates 3D Mario from 2D Mario. Because, if you don't, Mario starts looking a WHOOOLE lot more tired in comparison to even the played-out Uncharted series.

And I LIKE Mario.

Time to Crank this thread up

Ooooohhh this thread is already plenty cranky, I assure you of that. :)

If the reveal/announcement is the secret character in Donkey Kong Country Returns 2, I will happily watch the Wii U sink into non-existence.

There's a reason these IPs have lasted for decades, and are currently performing fantastic numbers on 3DS. Other factors are to blame for Wii U's performance, I'd say.

Is Cranky Kong as a playable character really a big announcement though? He's already in the DKC games just not playable. I just don't see why it's so important that Reggie has to be at VGX just to reveal a trailer of a game we've seen plenty of times before but now with an old character that none of which nobody at VGX cares about. It'd just be an embarrassment, a playable character isn't usually something to get hyped up about unless it's a fighter anyways, hardly worth making a big deal out of. Nintendo didn't make a big deal about
Rosalina being a playable character in SM3DW
so why should they do that with Cranky? I can see Nintendo wanting to make the game more known, but Donkey Kong isn't even that big regardless.

If it's a game that's already known, then it probably will be DKC because it's the only title coming out by Nintendo for the Wii U within the next 2 months. They probably want to spread the word of it out a little more. It just seems like VGX isn't the place to do it, Donkey Kong wouldn't really appeal to that type of audience. Super Smash Bros certainly would and it's a game that we already know about. I could see it maybe being Mario Kart too. It just seems like a wasted opportunity to me, they're supposed to be making the Wii U more appealing, showing off a game to the type of audience that wouldn't care for it just seems like a dumb idea to me.

Is someone compiling posts in here to do a wall of shame? Because if Nintendo ends up showing off something other than Donkey Kong, a lot of people up in here deserve to be laughed at, made fun of, ridiculed, and have their posts up for everyone to read.

We live in a industry where a Square Enix representative can come on stage, show nothing and tell people to be "excited"

A DKCR2 character reveal would be nothing out of the ordinary - especially not for Nintendo

Phantom.. ;)

Spill it

Based on it being a game we already know about...

My hope is that it's a new trailer for X.

My expectation is that it is a new trailer for Smash Bros.

My fear is that it is Cranky Kong for DKC:TF.

I'm okay with a Bayonetta 2 trailer also....I don't see any other possible option considering the venue.

I am.
jk

I have no reason to shame anyone. Who cares what people expect? lol

Summed up my thoughts pretty well.

If they do reveal more, then great.

If it's just that, people who expect more after this point are real dumb.

Exactly. I get why people are saying DK but they are off on this one.

Remember in 2008 when Reggie told the media that Animal Crossing for holiday 2008 was sufficient for the core gamer?

Uh... that's the other extreme.

I totally get why people are expecting Donkey Kong. I mean, it's still the VGX; it's not that important.

I'd actually be down for a new Donkey Kong trailer (I was more hyped for that game than 3D World and I loved the latter), but this is not the time and place to show one.

Ten minute DKC virtual console demo.

I can get why people think it will be Donkey Kong, but that seems so odd to me. They just did a big reveal for the game on GTTV.
Why go to VGX for more of the same?
