Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I wouldn't really consider those Miis as you can't recreate them in Mii Maker.

Ryan from Wii Sports is another Mii character:

If they don't let you use Miis that you've made then they've dropped the ball because that's kinda the entire point.

Yeah, there's really no reason for Miis to exist in Smash unless you can use the one's you've made, like in Mario Kart Wii. I'm not super fond of the idea to begin with, honestly. Unless their moveset is completely different.

Ideally, they could have a bunch of Wii Sports and Wii Resort related items, which I think was mentioned in the "leak".

If all those rumors are true, the one that would bug me the most would be the AR card thing. Used to you could unlock stage music by doing challenges or whatever...if stage music were only unlocked by DLC or cards, that would make me sad.

Knowing both Nintendo and Sakurai it'd probably be an option to unlock those elements, instead of the only way. I wouldn't worry.

It's also not happening, because every rumor is fake.

I'd assume it's like kid icarus uprising. Instant unlock via AR code (which can be shared over the internet), or unlock by playing the game over time (like trophies/stickers).

I do think the game Reggie is going to talk about is this. After that 4chan (how often have they been accurate?) rumour I feel it's to do with this. At least I hope it is.

It could also be DK or Mario Kart 8 but who knows.

Sakurai has been really throwing us off finding a patern, after establishing a 2 month pattern, he changed it up, after establishing that character reveals coincide with game releases/anniversaries, he seems to not follow that anymore either, the only thing that has ran true is olimar being a photo on a day of a direct.

Yeah, but that thread is full of Donkey Kong hate so currently this thread is clearly the classier of the two.

Having generic Miis with static movesets would resolve all the issues. Even without using corporate celebrities, there's still certain Miis that we see more than once. Nikki, unnamed Miiverse girl, etc. But I'm just not playing as a Mii unless I have two faces. Everything's a tradeoff.

This community is pretty hard to defend at times, not that there is anything explicit in particular that SmashGaf should be ashamed of considering that most of the time it is in good fun... but yeah things get weird here.

From the Reggie VGX thread:

Sometimes, I feel like we need a signal to jump into other threads and defend ourselves. Like "SmashGAF, Assemble!" or something. At least fox did his part.

That's just not fair, brains only die on weekends and select other days when someone mentions Krystal.

I feel that if they're not gonna allow you to select a Mii you've created to play with, then they shouldn't bother with Miis in the roster at all. It goes against the very name and the very nature of them. That is the main point of Miis. I really just don't see the point of including Miis at all if they're not gonna let you select their customized appearance.

Would be weird to force generic miis after mario kart wii and 7.

Well, perhaps I'm not in these threads often enough to talk, but: Smash 4 is a topic that a lot (or at least a fair number) of people are very interested in, yet have very little information to actually utilize. It's like too many piglets crowding around a sow; everyone starts rolling over each other and it all becomes very silly.

I'm trying to pull myself out right now, it is completely toxic at this point. It started off as a well mannered discussion about what kind of game Nintendo should present at something like VGX, and why Donkey Kong might not be the best idea. Then it turned into a shitstorm just like after the game's unveiling where we got a bunch of "Retro should make Metroid/IP/what I want them to do!" and trying to say why their narrow viewpoint is clearly superior and will translate into better sales performance than Donkey Kong.

At least I can talk about Smash Bros. without drive-by posts saying Sakurai is above it, although I'm sure we would see that if he ever helmed another Kid Icarus or Kirby game.

The only reason for references to Miis from other games, like the examples given in previous posts, would be for single player matches like event mode or classic mode.

For example an event where you have to fight a swarm of Miis based on the designs of opponents found in the Wii Sports series ending with The Champion.

The Metroid fanbase seems like the type that is louder than it is large.

I didn't read the thread. Are you sure that wasn't just one person saying that? I mean, Sakurai's one of my favourite developers, but he chose to do this and he handles sequels better than most.

Well given all the Ridley demands. :p

Nobody was making Sakurai comparisons, that was just me relating back to Smash to show my frustration. Anyway yes, there were people that legitimately thought that Retro making a non-Donkey Kong game would have translated to greater Wii U success and were calling the game a waste of talent.

? Not really. Sakurai pays extra attention to detail and knows how to represent characters without going overboard or making them out of character (on the incarnation he has in mind).

They don't need customized movesets, all they need is their cosmetic appearance to represent what they are about. Getting rid of the feature of using your own Miis for the Mii fighter goes against what they're about, and I'm sure Sakurai is aware of that too.

You know the #1 reason why that 4 chan rumor is bullshit? They wouldn't say "Mii joins the Melee!" They would say " Mii would like to play!".

We need Mach Rider playable , he was created dark and gritty and could be manly character in the roster.

Could have scene with Captain Falcon in which they do handshake and their muscles pop out.

All this Mii talk and we have yet to have character that wasn't on 3ds or Wii U.(Minus Megaman who is guest but at least you can purchase his games on eshop.)

I feel that Sakurai will keep roster similar to brawl with little new additions and have a few characters changed with their series current reps like Fire Emblem and Pokemon.I feel that Nintendo's rich history of characters is being ignored.

What does the authentic experience entail?

The authentic experience usually entails one of the following:

1) Random divergent topic about some obscure Nintendo game that should have representation in Smash
2) Metroid: Other M and how it's a terrible game, but Sakurai apparently thinks it's the cat's pajamas.
3) Ridley something something something
4) Making fun of qq more
5) Krystal discussion and/or defense

I'm probably forgetting some.
