Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Ah, it is, much like I thought, a special move.

I think I'll quick post my prediction of the Villager's moveset based on moves we know again:

Jab: Boxing Gloves
Dash: Sapling
Forward Tilt: Umbrella
Up Tilt: Twig
Down Tilt: Weed Pull
Forward Smash: Bowling Ball
Up Smash: Fireworks
Downsmash: Shovel
Neutral Aerial: ???
Forward Aerial: ???
Backward Aerial: Slingshot
Up Aerial: Turnips
Down Aerial: Turnips
Grab: Net
Neutral Special: Pick Up
Side Special: Lloid Rocket
Up Special: Balloon Helmet
Down Special: Tree Plant
Final Smash: ???

I feel pretty confident about all of this. Regarding the Shovel and Bowling Ball, all of his special moves are absolutely accounted for, so his Shovel and Bowling Ball have to be normals. They are grounded moves, and his tilts are almost certainly accounted for as well. I don't think there's anything else they possibly can be outside of very strange smash attacks. The different actions of the Tree Planting move also seemingly have to be all mapped to one input--planting, watering, and chopping down. There's really nowhere else in the moveset they can go. The only thing I'm uncertain about there is whether it is the down special or neutral, but I think Pick Up functions pretty well as a neutral for the Villager.

I wonder what his grab moves would be

Net?

I mean the following attacks... at least, I hope they feature unique animation rather than simply tossing.

Okay ill bite, who is Son of D? Well known smash player in the community or something? I NEED TO KNOW!

I do wonder what Villagers Final smash is....im guessing a Parade/march with the animal villagers?

Naw, he's long time lurker for NeoGAF, and we know him in SmashGAF irc.

Wow, lots of new members recently. Our little family of weirdos is growing.

FINALLY! I can post. A fair few of you might recognise me. Anyway, enough talk, I'll just start with my 3 most wanted newcomers.

In no particular order:

1 - Anna (Fire Emblem)
2 - Palutena (Kid Icarus)
3 - Little Mac (Punch Out)

And welcome!!! I don't know how much a chance Anna has, but I'm 90% sure Little Mac is coming.

That looks right to me. I'm just puzzled at the complete lack of a fishing rod -- that seemed like one of the more obvious attack choices even before Villager was announced. Maybe he'll use it in a taunt or victory animation, but it would've been better suited as a grab or side special move.

Or it'll just be his FINAL SMASH. Picture this, the Villager tosses the Fishing Rod towards the screen. Oh my, what's that? Something is nibbling on the line...He yanks it back in to reveal a giant fish that starts flapping all over the place, trampling anyone in it's path, except the villager, who is still on the other end of the line along for the ride.

EDIT:

Fishing rod is his final smash, he'll reel in a tidal wave of sea bass.

Well, it seems we had the same idea. Glad we're on the same page.

Mushroomy kingdom looked like a piece of crap.

90% of the reason I'd be fine with barely any newcomers is just the fact that nearly every single stage shown so far (3ds & wiiu both) has been an absolute palette party.

Brawl's gritty shitty poo look bugged me more than any tripping ever could, so I'm damn glad they're no longer using that as the philosophy for their graphic design this time around.

Not to mention Subspace Emissary had enemy designs from a horror game.

Why are people insisting that the rocket is merely a gyroid. It's Lloid.

He built you buildings. Why you people don't give him some respect?

Fishing rod is his final smash, he'll reel in a tidal wave of sea bass.

I still have no tuna ;_;

Ugh, I can't believe the double kick in the chin that the ROB-enemy reveal was.

A] it made ROB as a character reveal feel lame cause he was a generic enemy.

B] it made me think SSE would be -filled- with reference enemies. but nope, just ROB.

From IRC right? Welcome! I see we still share our love for Little Mac =D

Playable Primid is happening.

I still say that the bees will be a part of Villager's tree special move. If a tree is hit with something other than Villager's ax then there's a chance that a beehive will fall out.

If link hits it, bee larvae fall instead and restore his health :P. Toon link can get a golden bee lol.

You're just jealous of his stunning, anti-gravity, Dali-esque mustache.

I want Waluigi in this game so bad. Bottom tier or bust!

Edit: Oh, and Shadow has guns and that's dumb. HA!

So you want a bad Waluigi? I guess it could be fun to have a joke character like Ken from SF to taunt your opponent's with your sheer ability.

Real quick...

I have never played a Smash game, I typically don't care for fighters these days since I rarely play multiplayer. Do these Ames have enough going on in single player to make this one worth picking up for me? For some reason I'm very tempted this Tim!

Waluigi is a joke (see: gift from heaven). I wouldn't complain if he were mid-tier, but I've always enjoyed characters on lower tiers. I don't choose them to show off, as I'm fucking awful at Smash, but I generally either prefer the characters or get a kick out of being the scrub of the roster.

It helps when you suck at a game, as being one of the less-than-great characters gives you a bit of an excuse.

That said, I'm sure he's not going to be put in with the more likable and important Mario characters present. I'd like to see him, since party games are the only time he gets a chance to exist, but I doubt he's even really been considered.

Smash Bros usually has plenty of single player content, so yeah go for it if you're really interested!

Obviously can't make statements about SSB4, but Melee and Brawl each had pretty good SinglePlayer modes.

Classic mode, which is your standard Arcade Mode from any other fighting game
All-Star mode, where you fight against the entire roster with a limited number of health refills
Event mode, where you have 50 battles in special conditions
Training Mode
Break the targets (ascended minigame)
Home-Run contest (ascended minigame)
VS-Modes are all available for one player and are AMAZING

  • *Standard VS
    *Team Battle (2vs2 or 3vs1)
*Stamina Battle - if your HP fall to zero you lose.
*Special Melee/Brawl - Set your own rules regarding pretty much anything
*Some more I probably forgot to include :D

Melee only: Adventure mode, where you have levels based on Nintendo's games with the classic battles mixed in (pretty unique victory conditions in most levels).

Brawl only: Subspace Emissary. A full-fledged 2D side-scrolling single play campaign with cutscenes and boss fight (~8-12hrs), which is loosely based on the Adventure mode from Melee

Boss Battles, a boss rush against the bosses from Subspace Emissionary

EDIT: Forgot the Multi-Man Brawls/Melees

Brawl has a rather extensive single player campaign called Subspace Emissary. In addition to that, there's Classic mode, All-Star mode, event battles, home-run contest, break the targets, multi-man brawl... Yeah, I'd say there's enough sp content to last you a little while.

We know nothing about these games as far as game modes but the 3DS version will presumably be a more single player experience, and I imagine most of the above features will return.

One of the worst injustices ever was everyone flying to a floating island in the sky before this segment and me there thinking "HOLY SHIT ANGEL ISLAND CONFIRMED" only to be greeted by Rise of the R.O.B.ots.

This was the worst aspect of SSE, along with a lack of Nintendo locations.

SSE is why I hope SSB4's adventure mode features no original locations, enemies or characters. Original locations and bosses are fine, but they were terrible and out of place in Brawl. There's such a rich legacy that could be pulled from for it.

Master and Crazy being minions of Tabuu, an unheard of and horribly out of place in a Nintendo game character, has to be one of my least favorite game endings ever.

Here we have 2 villains who had been the villain of Smash for the last 2 games... and it turns out they're just slaves to this other guy you've never met and who has no barring on the story at all!

Oh I wish :P. Just a regular in the SmashGAF IRC.

I'm aware of her low chances but a man can dream.

We've all got our dream characters, for sure.

Paratroopa dive-bombs into the fray!
King Boo appears on the scene!
...Snake returns...

That last one made me sad.

paratroopa

why generic mario enemies :L

Dude, Paratroopa is awesome. I think some Mario enemy other than Bowser deserve representation, and Paratroopa is my man. He's in Mario Kart, he has a shell, he can fly. Koopa is an iconic enemy, Paratroopa is a koopa that can fly so it gives the character more variety. He could have a pretty cool moveset, IMO. Think of him like a small, agile Bowser that can fly! And of course, one of his specials could be tossing his red shell. :)

If we're looking towards other Mario villains, King Boo, Waluigi and Bowser Jr would be more likely than a random paratroopa. And I don't even think those three are likely

I doubt King Boo a lot, even though I like him. Bowser Jr. has some chance, as he's made a good number of appearances elsewhere, although not very recently. He could have some some cool moves, including of course, the paintbrush.

That Tropical Freeze thread is toxic. Yeesh.

SSE is poorly handled. Poor Wolf, Jiggs and Toon Link didn't even do shit.

Clearly they were the double fail safe if dedede, ness, luigi, kirby failed *cough*. Sonic have the choas emeralds so he could've easily owned tabuu if he wanted to by himself lol.

Yea, SSE felt like they were trying to make it feel like you had choices and options, when it was really linear as it gets.

Felt kind of long winded, too. I kept thinking "is it over?" after each level, especially the shorter ones.

I'd take classic mode over another SSE mode.
