Eh. There is difference between not viable mechanics and botched progression (its impossible currently to progress to every new tier without glitches) and testing balance or features.
I've been in tons of betas and i havent played one that had progression completely broken. [except for Diablo 3 ;P]
As i said, everything they are changing in a patch in few days, could be solved by having one, decent person to playthrough game from the beginning to higher tiers.
Its the first feedback You can get, if game is progression is playable or not.
There is tons of other stuff that, as we are in beta, we can test. This is not one that we should. We should test speed of progression, if thats not too slow or too fast, or why players skip that content and not others etc, but not test if You can even playthrough it.
There is a reason why people complained about it just after few hours of Starbound beta, because its freaking obvious.
Did server explode? I was just on it an hour ago and now I can't connect.

and can somebody tell me how to use this elevator(?)
Great, I step out to run an errand, and I hear the server crashed. I'll be back in 30 min. Hang tight.
Huh, did they do a wipe?
I still got all my items and it doesn't look like my homeplanet has changed.
Thanks for hosting by the way. I appreciate it and enjoy exploring and building with you guys.
When server crash do they give you nice error logs/crash dumps like when the client crashes?
Is there a limit to how high you can build? Haven't found any info on this online.

Kinda bummed, I don't have any desire to play with the wipe looming....so I'm gonna have to find something else to occupy gaming time.
This game feels like a big MMO and it really is much more enjoyable with lots of people. Having people in different parts of the universe is great. Colonizing different planets and building structures there.
Taking this further I would like to see:
- Ability to rename a planet something unique. eg Alpha Ant Mantis IV Ver 9123 to Earf
- Ability to develop technology on a planet to change it (increase monster spawn, change weather, replant trees, etc). This is the part that will differentiate this game from others of the same genre.
- Protecting beam down locations from editing. Beam down locations can be griefed and users can dig straight down or plant traps that can kill visitors.
- Editing Permissions. Designate a square/rectangular area as non editable only by specific users (and their party). This way a player can have a house on a planet and store their treasure without worry. Same goes with the ship.
I really don't like: worlds are the same and visible through coordinates. I wish there was a random seed for the universe so each server is different. Personally, I don't like people giving coordinates to legendary items (x,y just walk a little to the right and there is a legendary sword). That cheapens the experience. Imagine a website which you plug in coordinates and it returns to you rare chest/tech locations. Thats why the universe needs a unique seed to randomize all that.
Will you find anything on the asteroid, or is it completely pointless to build that high a structure? At some point You will see asteroids, and above them is end of map.
Try F1.Anyone know how to hide/reveal the interface? I must have hit that key cause I cant get it back![]()

Is there any reason to build up? Floating islands, airships, Colombia-style cities, stuff like that? I know the devs are putting in underwater cities so that's why I'm curiousIs there a limit to how high you can build? Haven't found any info on this online.
someone should make a Bioshock planet when they introduce underwater citiesIs there any reason to build up? Floating islands, airships, Colombia-style cities, stuff like that? I know the devs are putting in underwater cities so that's why I'm curious
On that note, has anyone found an ocean planet yet? Saw a screenshot of one on the main site
Players have mentioned finding islands, anchored ships with merchants, asteroids..Is there any reason to build up? Floating islands, airships, Colombia-style cities, stuff like that?
IIRC you have to create a metalwork station using the molten core item dropped from the UFO boss. Then you can craft a starmap upgrade.how do you install engine components?

The star map sector upgrades? Just pick it up from your inventory and click it outside as if you're going to place it somewhere. Same thing you do for blueprints and codex entries.Again, how do you install engine components?
I played terraria on my old shit brick of a netbook, will starbound run on something low end like an Asus t100?

And ocean planet
I wanna play but they are reseting tomorrow so I don't want to waste my time![]()
They're only resetting characters.
And techincally, all its doing is erasing quests (if you store your stuff on a planet (whether SP or MP world) you'll be fine, that stuff wont disappear.
So...
Lets say, you have gathered enough gear to make it a cakewalk to beat the first boss. Then there's a character wipe. If you stored your gear somewhere, you can just go pick it up, rush through the quests, and then defeat the boss easily.
I mentioned it earlier, but there's two kinds of wipes, and they will warn us which one is coming. The reason for the warning is so we can take proper precautions and actually store stuff.

I think it will be one of the randomized locations found in the game. It was from a post on the dev blog. I also remember them mentioned that the ocean floor is very cool to exploreWhoa, is that building player made or actually in the game? I wanna visit that!
Since there's a tech and sci-fi gear, have the devs said anything about high-tech digging gear like laser drills or something like that.l
Your character (and ship) will be gone, but as long as you saved all your things, the only real drawback to a wipe is that you have to redo quests.
My GPU usage sits at around 20% give or take (280x)

Oh my god I need to find the Ocean planets.
I will go on boating adventures ala Windwaker have an underwater house and all will be glorious.
