Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I would love a DKCR minecart level. It could be beautiful, with blue gems in the background and a delightful score, and fighters could ride on minecarts that zipped by to gain the edge over their opponents.

I'd put Norfair on the list of shit stages too except the fight for the safety chamber is always a highlight in matches with my friends.

The platform placement in that stage was the main problem for me, as far as the return of the inevitable acid lava gimmick goes I did at least find the variations interesting enough and the chamber is indeed a multiplayer highlight.

Despite the fact that I don't mind the stage and play on it quite frequently Frigate Orpheon annoys me for squandering a Prime themed stage on a bland ship interior and chump boss when there's so many fantastic locations across the trilogy. Now with the pyrosphere I get bland interiors and lava, JOY!

Yeah, I'm one of the "boring" ones that wants to see yet another jungle stage. Although something based on the forest or ruins could be cool.

I'll forgive yet another jungle if it's actually themed in Returns or DKC2 tribal style as opposed to the generic looking jungles from previous games with vague DK elements like claptraps....that can now swim, though at least Rumble Falls sort of had a DK series vibe to it, nothing like the stage it was based upon though.

I was disappointed that the arena stage in chapter 1 of Subspace Emissary with Mario and Kirby wasn't a playable stage. Also, is there a thread here where we can exchange friend codes for Brawl and a 3ds? I'm looking to get back into playing Brawl online (it's been years).

Yesss I want this especially for the mine cart themes from dk1, and dkc 2's krazy kremland and haunted halls.

I'd love to see a stage based on the Pyramid of Power from A Link to the Past. On top of it, sloped sides, maybe a few floating platforms, and then the vast expanse of the Dark World behind you.

This fanmade collage I found has kind of the idea I'm going for:

Unfortunately, I don't see it as very likely. But I do hope we see more stages based on areas from varying points in a series' past and not just whatever is most recent and the requisite intentionally retro stages.

Next DK stage needs to be non-scrolling, so I can actually enjoy listening to the music while I have fun fighting.

Rumble Falls (like all other scrolling stages) is bad, but I would sometimes pick it just to listen to Bramble Blast and King K. Rool/Ship Deck 2.

Really don't want to create a stage in a stage builder (if they have one) just for the song again.

Nofair is actually fun. I would love to see Temple, Jungle Japes, Big Blue and Pokefloat coming back. PRETTY PLEASE!

Stages should have some customization available. At least a "hazard on/off" toggle and at most, options for each individual facet of each level (scrolling/moving, individuals hazards, Etc.).

Sakurai actually disconfirmed that.

Speaking of music, I hope theres an option to use any theme of choice for each stage or atlease let stages that are in the same series share their music options.

What I really hope they do for the music is strike a balance between the specialized, super-high-quality tunes of Melee and the sheer quantity of options of Brawl. Each stage should come unlocked with just one, maybe two songs as their "theme", with length and quality comparable to Melee. Then, every other song you unlock is placed into a pool and can be assigned to any stage you'd like, or alternately could be placed onto a default stage by franchise.

Then, of course, they really ought to release music DLC, free or otherwise. Or just have custom music, but that won't happen most likely.

New Pork City needs to leave, or at least be rebuilt to be a better stage
Same with the Zelda Temple, classic or not
Electroplankton one was kind of lame
75m is meh

I want to see a rebuilt Mario Kart level. It was ok in Brawl but it can be so much more.

And qq hating on Spear Pillar. I loved that stage bro.

So I wonder if the Pyrosphere is replacing the Frigate Orpheon or Norfair stage.

I love the Zelda Temple stage. It's big but it was very well designed for fights. It was a well balanced stage IMHO

I agree with the rest (well except spear pillar lol) however!

Temple was one of the best stages in Melee, and was really good in Brawl but felt a little off due to the game's different mechanics. I still hope it's back in the next Smashes, but needs to be reworked a little

They could have cut that stage down to 50% size and no one would have noticed since everyone only battled on the bottom area anyways.

There's one area of DKCR I always thought, based at least on the background of it, would make a good Donkey Kong stage. It's the part of the first ruins level where it opens up into a jungle vista with the original Donkey Kong monument in the background.

(wish I could find a better picture)

I think those big, open vistas of the island are some of the defining visuals of the game and would do a pretty good job of representing the series itself as well.
That's a good choice however I think the jungle theme has been a bit overdone for DK levels. I think they could make a level based on either of these locations

They could have a flat beach level with some palm trees, rocks and barrels. They could either pick the stage gimmick as the sunset style, dodging the tsunami or the giant Octopus that occasionally comes in. Or they could have the stage gimmick dependent on a different time of day. During the day is the tsunami, Sunset would be another option or nighttime with the octopus.

I think it's more likely they will choose a stage that both ALttP and ALBW share in common. Something like the Sanctuary, Tower of Hera, or Hyrule Castle modeled after ALTTP/ALBW.

I don't know how it could be done without being the most rage inducing stage ever, but I'd love a Donkey Kong Mine kart stage that rides through a mine cart stage from each DKC. First we'd see the typical rail cars and mines from DKC, then at some junction things transfer over to the skull cars in Krazy Kremland, then those ugly bobsleds in DKC3 and then a normal rail car again in the lava world from returns.

Hmmm... Thinking it over maybe the characters wouldn't have to be on the actual carts but some sort of floating platform flies along the track. I'm thinking like Lylat Cruise but through the mines, tubes, volcanoes and roller coaster tracks. Occasionally the point of view would change to a side scrolling position so the characters would get a few moments to fight like daredevils on the actual carts.

Sakurai actually disconfirmed that.

ugh

How long ago? If the games were close to release, then I could understand why they wouldn't try working that feature in. What reasoning could he be using to not want to put that in?...

If I want to play that Ice Climbers level without that fish or the DK one without the fucking OHKO spike, then give me that option. It wouldn't ruin any of the stages

I was just thinking of something like that. If it were like Big Blue or the Spirit Tracks stage, it wouldn't be so bad. The mine carts could start attached to one another, then as time goes on, they split apart and move on separate tracks. Have the pattern be scripted so that players can plan their moves accordingly.

Such lies indeed qq =( The top sections were just as good and the times I played the whole stage was used. Nailing the landing from the top right edge of the stage to the bottom portion, all to get away from a friend while I was 200+%, was glorious

They need to start the week off right. A new trailer that starts with a slow pan up Captain Falcon's immaculate body. "Let's move!"

(Or I guess Mii to celebrate the addition of Miiverse to the 3DS.)

Definitely not. That kind of connectivity is just holding content hostage and it's no better than on-disc DLC or the like.

Nintendo's done it before with Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion, linking the two games together with the GC GBA link cable enabled you to unlock content in each of them, a costume in Prime and the original Metroid in Fusion.

Heck it's not really different then making two versions of the same game ala Pokemon, you either have to buy both versions to get 100% or trade with another player. If I get Smash for the WiiU and my buddy gets it for 3DS then we can share and unlock levels between versions.

OMG I just realized the tail difference between Monkeys and Chimps :O
Never really distinguished the two species, just thought some monkeys had tails others didn't.

Never realized Dixie didn't have a tail while Diddy had one.

With all the Brawl stage hate, let's not forget the game is responsible for some of my favorite levels of the series -- Pirate Ship, Halberd and Smashville.

On another note, they better bring back Big Blue -- again.

I think this is the quote from here?

"You can still manage the appearance of items, but you cannot disable the damage caused by the stages. If we propose such an option, it might as well be PlayStation all-stars!"

My insane Mother bias is enough to forgive any of New Pork City's sins; that, and I swear I fucking near tear up whenever Snowman or Mother 3's Love Theme plays.

The thought of a potential ALTTP or DKCR stage makes my mouth water.
