Not an excuse. Nintendo is slipping when Sony has Uncharted collision detection technology and animation going for them.
In fact, I'm just going to go say it. Sony should buy Nintendo.

"Don't pick up that weapon! Although it looks tempting, it's actually a bomb. Inspired by the 3DS game, Steel Diver, you'll regret picking this thing up!"
which is?
I'm guessing you like dem boats.

"Pic of the day. We didn't know what to do with Steel Diver so we made it a fucking gun. Peace."
Sakurai sure likes making more and more bombs.
Was that actually confirmed? I thought it was just a rumor. It is being overhauled, by turning into an online F2P game due out before Nintendo's current financial year ends.

For all the flack I gave the character models being Brawl+, the items and the assist trophies (only going by Skull Kid though) have REALLY improved.

What if Smash's story is that instead of everyone becoming trophies, everything becomes guns?

The item may end up being fun as hell to use, but if they were gonna represent Steel Diver in any shape or form, I'd have thought they had more to gain using it as inspiration for a stage.
What's the miiverse comment
Yeah, I assumed it was stage material too.

It could still possibly be a stage.
What if they have a stage in the works as well, but aren't ready to show it off? Has there been a case in the past where a small franchise has gotten a stage and item representation in Smash?
It -could- be a 3DS stage, I guess, but an item AND a stage for Steel Diver, which did the opposite of setting the world on fire? Even while aware of its future as Nintendo's first F2P project, I really doubt it.
I'm always happy when I see Nintendo cramming every game they can in Smash Bros, that's what this game is about. I mean "Lip's Stick", how random is that ? Keep going, Nintendo, So far, everything is great.
One of the things that is uncompromisingly essentially for a F2P game is a very large playerbase: you need several, several players so that maybe 10-20% of them will pay enough for you can get a return on your investment. It would be wise to market the series enough to expose it to as wide of an audience as possible so that that large playerbase can be achieved when the game releases.
But it'll be released on the Wii U! -SHOT-
In all seriousness, a fair point. As far as I know though, wouldn't the F2P game in question release before Smash does? I do concede that Smash's evergreen effect would result beneficial for the game's awareness regardless of their release dates, to one degree or the other.
Don't see what is so disappointing about this. It's a new item, it's based on a game and a relatively small title to boot meaning he's trying to include any title in some form or another if possible.
Why are people mad about this pic again?
Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack is my all-time favorite puzzle game. Lip the Fairy is one of those obviously near-impossible characters like Jill Dozer or Banjo & Kazooie* I'd love to see in Smash.I hope that Panel de Pon gets more representation. Though that's unlikely since Yoshi was slapped onto the game in its western release.
If this goes for me, just wanna clarify that I'm not at all disappointed or angered at this revelation. On the contrary, as I said, I predict it's gonna be a blast to actually play with, and you'll never hear me complaining about a new reveal on a pic of the day. I'm just stating my surprise, for I thought Steel Diver would lend itself more naturally for a stage. Sakurai is nothing if not an out-of-the-box thinker, though, and I'm grateful for it. Looking forward to shoot ya all with this baby!

They could be holding a Steel Diver-related stage back for the 3DS version, given it was a portable game and all.I like the idea of it being a stage as well. As others have said, it being an item hasn't ruled out the possibility of it being a stage (I personally like the idea of fighting aboard sinking ships and surfacing submarines).
Most well-monetized F2P games get frequent (think once every 1-2 months) content additions or other updates in order to keep player retention up. If Nintendo does likewise, and if SteelDiver: Subwars is as online as I think it will be (and reasonably popular), it should still be alive and getting updated by the time Smash comes out.
Also, I missed when it was (apparently) said that SteelDiver: Subwars will be a WiiU title. Where can I read up on it?
...Guys....
What if these torpedoes act as meteor smashes if a character gets hit by them? In essence sinking that character?

Closest thing is the Australian Classification Board you yourself referenced, which claims it as "Multiplatform". Which mind you, with Smash also releasing on both platforms, would play well with it.
