Ready @ Dawn: "Graphic fidelity of The Order 1886 definitely exceeds the trailer"

It's kinda sad how much the different aspect ratio is dragging down my hype for this game. I'm still very interested, but it really bums me out.

Blowing up the alcohol? Preorder cancelled.

LOL! Best 'preorder cancelled' joke in a long time!!

And some people try to push this game for 800p.

But guess what, guys! That 800p game produce more pixels WITH NO UPSCALING than upscalead 900p game :

1920*800 = 1 536 000
1600*900 = 1 440 000

They don't get it that 1080p game/movie with letterbox ARE STILL 1080P, but much wider image. So, 140 pixels above and below are INACTIVE pixel and they are the part of 1080p image. For game, pixel density ARE 1 : 1 and there is NO UPSCALING! Fuck yeah, i'm so right!

Joel/Banderas gif!

I for one love the aspect ratio.. they've seemingly built the game around it. It's not a last minute attempt to save a few pixels. Though I'm sure it does help.

At first I wasn't getting the hype for this game. Now that I actually took some time to read about it... Holy hell I want to see some gameplay, it might be one of those games that will make me buy a PS4. Been a fan of RAD since Daxter, too.

I don't know about you guys, but this aspect ratio thing doesn't look like a huge deal to me. This is what it'll look like.

People are making it sound like you won't be able to see shit, but i think it looks perfectly fine.

May be a stupid question, but is it possible they could make an option for regular screen size?

I doubt it, talk has been that it was made at this ratio in mind since the start.

I don't think the bars will be that bad, they'll just make you feel like your watching a movie... a movie set in olde England with steampunk guns and gnarly moustaches so how could it not be awesome?

Those black bars are a little distracting, the game takes up only half of the screen.

I'm really liking the texture work and how the game is looking. If they deliver on the destructibility and objects having soft body physics as discussed in the game informer article then I'll be very excited.

Oh, didn't know that it's stuck in that letterbox ratio. Doesn't matter to me because my projector auto-adjusts for that... bwahahaha.

I was simply pissed my game was letterboxed. I'm playing a game, not watching a movie. And, as a plasma owner, I find the letterboxing "design choice" even more irritating.

Nonetheless, I want 1886 so bad. It's my most anticipated PS4 game, without a doubt.
I'm a plasma owner as well but I didn't notice the bars for some time and really didn't care. Why is it more irritating with a plasma? Anyway you can always sit closer to the TV ;-)

Sry it's <35%,I would prefer a full screen option.

You'd be looking at the game possibly running at 22fps.

Mmmmmmm. Look at that delicious Chromatic Aberration in the top left hand corner. It's going to be the new thing this gen just you watch.
And half of GAF will quit gaming when that happens :P
I don't think it's being released on the XBone.
GIVE THIS MAN A GIF !!

Dragons Dogma, Beyond Two Souls, Modern Movies. They'll get over it.

Don't you get tired of making empty assumptions and tinfoil posts?

Rendering 35% more pixels wouldn't affect performance? lol

It would, but there's nothing to say that the framerate would drop below 30 FPS. Thats an empty assumption considering we know nothing or haven't seen anthing about the game.

There's unknown variables that makes speculation pointless.

1. What is the average frame rate right now?
2. How optimized is the game right now?

I don't see how you can come to the conclusion of the frame rate being 22 FPS if it was rendered at 1920x1080.

I sure hope they will show some gameplay soon cause i really like the concept and setting of the game and want to see this in action.

The 1920*800 resolution is an intresting choice I guess it could be an artistic motivation dont get all the drama about it.

If their worst case scenarios don't dip down to 30fps in the final product, then they're wasting resources.

I look forward to the game in part BECAUSE of the aspect ratio.

People love to complain that graphics never help gameplay and lazy devs, etc., etc., but when devs experiment with a wider field of view like here or games that are not displayed horizontally they cry as well. Boo hoo, black bars. Boo hoo, the evil devs think they're film makers, boo hoo passive aggressive snark about 24 fps
boo hoo I have to turn my computer screen
.

Using the crude and non-scientific but effective of stretching a picture on my tablet I think that the loss of vertical space is big, but the loss of horizontal viewing area feels gigantic when going full screen. Small FOV in fps doesn't bother me usually, in fact I find the fish-eye effect of really high FOVs some people use unsettling, but in third person games I like to see my environment AND my character at the same time, not only half his upper body and only two metres to the right/left when aiming.

If it proves to be pointless when playing I will rant against future 2.40 games, if it is useful I will yell at tv set manufacturers and tv for settling for 16:9 when movies black bar my huge tv all the time already.

I had zero problems with aspect ratio in Beyond: Two Souls. I barely noticed the black bars after 10h of gaming. Cant wait for Order 1886!

And BTW for those who wait Destination Playstation in February, that event is always closed to the public. Its aimed at retailers and distributors. Dont expect anything to come out from it. The next gaming event is GDC in March.

We did not get anything this year at Destination PS, so you are right.
